Re: # 5

Re: harimau:

[If you feel so bad about the downtrodden, let the self-appointed standard bearer of Islam aka Pakistan take not any Bangladeshi but just the Biharis stranded in Bangladesh since 1972.]

Huh ? If I feel ``bad about the downtrodden`` (don`t you? or do you believe that the being trod on is solely the fault of the downtrodden?) _*Pakistan*_ should accept Bangladeshi and Bihari immigrants? Can you please rationally justify this statement ?

Secondly,
[You won`t be advocating that.]

You`re correct.

Thirdly,
[But you have no qualms about telling us that India should take this human refuse (not refugees)...]

Kindly point out where I have said that.

[... from a country that has been actively assisting China and Pakistan against India and whose political parties campaign on who is more anti-India. ]

I hope you are not saying that people who _*LEAVE*_ that country in order to immigrate to India fully agree with and have internalised an anti-India policy? Is not leaving a country for another a strong statement against the possible future your original country holds for you? Can it not be the strongest statement of disagreement against it`s policies?

[Yes, India should accept any Hindus from Sri Lanka or Nepal.]

Right. Even if headlines like ``Double murder rocks Delhi`` came out not even a month ago, blaming Nepali household help.[1] Or if the Times of India says ``Nepali help now Suspect No. 1``[2] and the Delhi Police say ``...about 200 Nepali citizens arrive in Delhi every week.``[3] Where are the howls of dismay, the grand ``Clash of Civilizations`` type narratives linking the behaviour of these calumnous immigrants to alleged characteristics of their religion ? What would you be saying if even a tenth of the incidents of murder and dacoity currently traceable to Nepali _individuals_ were caused by Bangladeshi _individuals_ ?

harimau, do you have the irrational fear and/or hatred of Islam, Muslims or Islamic culture? How do you do on this test [4] for Islamophobia? It`s on page 2 of the .pdf .

FV,

The plight of the people you mentioned is indeed sad, as it is of all poor people across the globe.

On a totally different note, I do not support any asylum seekers to India, persecuted or not, except if they belong to Indic religions. Especially Muslims from Pakistan/Bangladesh since they asked for a different country and got it. I have absolutely no sympathy for Muslims/Christians, whether poor or not, from Bangladesh or any other country who can change the demographics of India.

Thanks,
Avkrishna

I think its very unfair to ask a developing country like India to take the burden of illegals from Bangladesh.

Aha_Snark,
You should do some analysis before you start compaing Bagladeshi refugees to refugees from Sri Lanka and Nepal. In case of Sri Lanka, the refugees were victims of terror originally from the Sri Lankan govt. and later from the LTTE. As a neighbour the least we could do was to offer them refuge, and we were not the only to offer that. Almost the whole world offered them refuge.
About Nepal, first of all population wise Nepal is a very small country. Also in case of Nepal, there is two way migration. A large number of Indians live in Nepal too.
Bangladesh does not fall in either of the two catagories.

If immigration is so bad for Canada, why would the Canadian government appear so friendly to immigration here?[1] Apart from the fact that this article talks about illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

Ref Aha_Snark #4

[I feel the sense of repulsion at ``Bangladeshi immigrants`` displayed by so many is because of their assumed Muslim nature, not because of the ``security risk`` or the ``resources`` that they eat up. If it were truly about the drain on resources, or the security risk, we`d be screaming about refugees of Sri Lankan origin or refugees from Nepal. The reason you don`t see worthies holding forth about them is that more often than not, they`re Hindu or Buddhist.]

Yes, India should accept any Hindus from Sri Lanka or Nepal. We DON`T have to take any Muslims. They can all stay in Bangladesh or go to Pakistan and rot there. If they are rotting today in New Delhi, at least it is still better in their viewpoint than literally rotting in the heat and humidity of Bangladesh. And they can stick their Bangla where I can`t hear it.

The Bangladeshis had a choice in 1947. If they screwed up at that time, it is NOT India`s fault. And no, we don`t owe these people anything except a strong kick in the butt.

[cheers, and don`t let the harimaus of the world faze you.]

And I won`t be letting YOU faze me either.

Farzana,

A very thoughtprovoking article on the process of othering and the rationales of acceptance. When I went abroad a year or so ago, I remarked to my friend how almost every sweeper in fast food restaurants in Hamburg was non-white. And ``averted my eyes`` as I clutched my ``RBI-approved forex`` while listening to the Punjabi-accented German of the couter attendant.

I feel the sense of repulsion at ``Bangladeshi immigrants`` displayed by so many is because of their assumed Muslim nature, not because of the ``security risk`` or the ``resources`` that they eat up. If it were truly about the drain on resources, or the security risk, we`d be screaming about refugees of Sri Lankan origin or refugees from Nepal. The reason you don`t see worthies holding forth about them is that more often than not, they`re Hindu or Buddhist.

A really nice piece.
cheers, and don`t let the harimaus of the world faze you.

Bangladeshis in the NCR?.And, by the way , if you`re so concerned why don`t you spend your own money and help that bangladeshi author get indian citizenship.Look at the west, and canada is the biggest loser example.Going to the dogs it is.It is time nations revamped their asylum seeking policies.I blame britain for creating this asylum scam as a way of continuing its` divide and rule policies ,by providing shelter to the criminals they used to divide the colonies and suppressing their economic growth by political subversion. But we indians are stronger than those liver-spotted bastards and have turned the tables on them. They are now totally under the yanks for their basic survival and have to bend over when they`re told , and their country is full of the worst elements , like jihadis and subversives they gave shelter to, who are now using their island to do to them what they wanted to do to us.Limey c***-s***ers!.We should `weed` and send these bangladeshi people back to where they came from.No birth certificate, no rights.

Considering that you`re always fascinated by the Other Side, I`d love to see you research on the gypsies of Himachal. They are illegal immigrants too. Those who came on 2 month tourist visa and been staying for 10 yrs.

I think India should build as many dams as it wants across the Ganges and its tributaries so that Bangladesh, for all its complaints about its riparian rights being violated, doesn`t get flooded as much. It should seize the land at the chicken-neck near Sikkim so that the Bangladeshi Hindus can live in safety there a la the Repulic of Turkish Cypriots. That would also give India ``strategic depth`` there.

And no, India is NOT your frikking Ummah, to provide refuge to Bangladeshi Muslims. Bangladesh can petition to join the Indian Union anytime it wants free movement of its people into India. That would mean there is no Government of Bangladesh, no diplomatic corps, no Supreme Court, etc. At best, there will be the state of East Bengal, a High Court whose rulings could be appealed to the Indian Supreme Court, etc. Otherwise, all Bangladeshi Muslims must be deported to Bangladesh and we should fence the border and electrify it to keep the bums out!
