Hello!
And what is the point of this article? I mean I come from a dysfunctional Pakistani family. More or less we all do. People should write as writing is good.
But this tale did not even match any western standards. The writer wants readers to see that women are offended by what few fanatics are doing out there. Male chauvinism is as bad as feminism.
Use of profanities so that you can fit in? I am not so sure.
That is, if that was the only objective. I am not sure if writer was just writing what happened or making up a fantasy more tilled towards Frued’s theory of Phallic-Oedipal Phase.
Seem like writer or the main character is stuck between 3-6 years. When kids are exhibitionist and possessive, as obvious from vulgar language used.
Hostility to wards same sex parent exists, as one can see that mom is gone to mental institution because “SHE WAS NAÏVE ENOUGH TO NOT TO READ TO WRIETERS TASTES”. So the poor woman is now psychotic at age 55. This also proves jealousy towards same sex parent to compete for attention of opposite sex parent.
And poor brother, Just because he had an extra “Y” chromosome (Which resulted in enlargement of certain prototype areas of his body during 8 week of development), had to die.
So really hate ret was to too much prevailing but not just talk that how other people hate “ Sinf-e-Nazuk” ( Female Gender) but just personal hate ret of an toddler mind set who did not grow properly.
Sorry! Mr. Paracha. Either you don’t know a female mind or you are a twisted female.

Based on your writing there is hope for us all yet.
Makes one wonder about all the submissions that Chowk editors actually reject.

I dont understand the hidden meaning ( I am sure there is one) behind this article. Ok, fine it is a family with a lot of issues but I fail to get the point between the obsession with penis and then wanting to marry the sweeper. If the brother thinks he is female then what harm is he casuing the family that they lash out and kill him in such a gruesome manner.
sister obsessed with male genitalia secretly wishing she was a male or just obsessed as a sex crazed female?
brother is atleast trying to live his fantasy by pretending he is a woman.
father believing there is nothing wrong with daughter but son is the root of all problems.
By killing the brother do they expect to restore peace within themselves?
utter garbage!!!

temporal,
you might need a little more tea yourself every once in a while. would boom boom be a good companion?! perhaps some sympathy too. :) on second thought, perhaps not the sympathy part. :))
nadeem,
you have a lot of things to be weaned off of, cola, freud, shuk`r hai farhat hashmi se kuch najaat pa li. . . what else. bechaara shah. . . he never had a chance. this is no less ``twisted`` than some of your other stories pointing out the evils of certain systems (particularly religious ones), but this didn`t resonate with me all that much. :)

Mr. Paracha:
Man, you are GOOD! This was such a funny piece, if only it were not such a serious piece!
मान गये जनाब! (Maan gaye janab!)
Beej.

tch tch. hope you didn`t spill it on yourself. :)
as for blasphemy, one can hope that NFP is a loving and forgiving man (not god). :)) i did not say he abuses his talent. . . that perhaps would be heresy!!! :)))
koi to-may-to kehta hai, tau koi to-maa-to kehta hai.

p.s. te boomboom di taqleef naaee tourette`s ai, te naaee alzheimer`s. m`aamla kuj prickly lagda ai. (apologies, couldn`t resist. will you need another cup of coffee?!)

Great stuff. Typical NFP if I may say. All over the place, wild, rude and at the same time so very there. Love the way he takes `serious` issues and parody`s the fcuk out of them or should I say parodys the way they are talked about. xcellent stuff Paracha man.

``Bad moods cause PMS is a myth.`` I take that as a pro-Women`s Lib stance.:)) But I wont dare trying to confirm NFP`s real intentions. And being a woman, I somehow pitty Shah more than the other three. However found potrayal of Syma`s mom`s psychosis very disturbing.

Another disillusioned Marxist.. God knows how many more people will this obsolete ideology take down with it ? !
#14 Posted by patwari on May 12, 2005 10:59:02 pm
On second reading and like all second or third readings of NFP stuff so much starts to
unfold. This is really a scathing attack on mullahs` idea of Islam and how they talk bout
unimportant matter and matters of sex only. A take of old Hindu andCatholic versions of morality in 21st century too perhaps? He loves covering his stuff with cryptic layers.

What goes in in this man`s head? We always knew he was weird and always fluctuating
between pagalpan and brilliance...as matter of fact very much like his stories.
I will not say what I made out of this but since it is Nadeem F. Paracha sufice to say
it is his usual bizzare style he uses to spit at what he hates, i.e. almost everything. :D
PS: Am not sure that is he laughing at or defending the rights of gays? But did find it interesting the way he takes a gay man and turns him into a God fearing Muslim one.

Nadeem
this is another example of a brilliant idea, a great `start` that was later mauled to death. the piece started off great. it continued to rise for about 16 paragraphs or so and then the dialogue started. I hate to say this but you really should learn about dialogue, perhaps a creative writing course would help?
in almost trademark nadeem fashion, the story declined as soon as the dialogue started, it was affected, synthetic and forced, which is pardonable. it was hurried, and that`s not pardonable; dialogue being the distinguishing factor between a piece of fiction and a dental hygiene advertisement . the end, of course, was abrupt and by this time the story was totally divested of the charm it started with. In short, the reader came away not thinking about the issues you raised but about the incongruent decision by father and daughter to garrot the gay person, and that too in a sudden forced way.
