The article may be interesting to some people, but (in my view) reads almost like a Russian press release and (to me) it appears to be off-base on so many fronts, not to mention a little too long (mostly because of too many historical notes). I personally don’t read much into Russia trying to “get back in” – probably a little bit of posturing for the domestic audiences! Also, the last I heard, Syria got out of Lebanon in a hurry (missiles or no missiles) and seems to have learnt its lesson fast by watching Iraq’s example.
I have difficulty figuring this guy Putin out. Is he just another old hard-line communist with a softer veneer? The world has changed and somebody ought to tell him! (I wonder if GWB ever thinks whether he read Putin’s “soul” wrong?)
The bottom line seems to be: “if you ain’t got the bucks, the bang, and the willingness to use the two, you ain’t got it!” The Russians seem to have none of the three in sufficient quantities to make a difference!
Minor notes:
[… illegal and ill advised invasion of Iraq, now turned into a quagmire.]
Nobody buys that line any more, especially not the Iraqis!
[It is only a matter of time when the passions, frustrations and decades old anger of Palestinians explode once again. Of course then Sharon would talk of terror and carry on his policies of repression and expansion.]
[The so called democracy in Iraq under US bayonets is monopolised by exiles, embezzlers and former CIA and MIV assets.]
These do not sound like “objective” observations!
[Mubarak is under Washington`s indirect pressure for democratic reform and scrutiny putting U.S.-Egyptian ties under tension. On that point, Mubarak got a sympathetic hearing from Putin, who is also lectured by US Administration of not being democratic enough.]
There is nothing as heart-breaking as a sob-session between totalitarian regimes!

Putin is bringing balance back to world affairs.People are stupid, if they write Russia off.It is still the largest country in the world, and that means vast natural resources yet to be utilized.Putin will be the nemesis of the current powers that be.Visit www.revelation13.net

bbabu,

Internal Department of Homeland Security documents I`ve obtained show officials fear Pakistan-based al-Qaida may be sending terrorists our way, including ones trained in terror camps up and running inside Pakistan -- that`s right, Pakistan. The terror-training camps we shut down in Afghanistan are now open for business on the other side of the border, despite Islamabad`s apparent efforts to crack down on them.
Manto showed Stuka the main attraction of Pakistan namely Jehadis and Stuka that they were harmless people waging jehad only on the food tables.
