On the Banks of the Wishing Lake

The beauty and purity of the Himalayas is Godsent. I have never gotten sick drinking UNfiltered water from even the irrigation ditches. Life itself is pristine like the nature`s lap.

``Progress`` is fast encroaching and only God know how long His gift will last.

We commonly see each other`s beautiful nature slides at clubs, in competitions or at shows. Did you ever think of sharing them with other less fortunate people who can no longer easily get out to enjoy such things? People in nursing homes or assisted living complexes would thoroughly enjoy seeing the scenes they used to be able to be a part of themselves. Many probably used to travel to beautiful places or take a walk along the ocean or in the woods but now find that unattainable. Your presentation does not have to be elaborate or lengthy or of strictly nature subjects. A little humor never hurt. Just letting people continue to enjoy scenes of beautiful places would be of great benefit. Check around your local area for opportunities to share your wealth of slides.

I was in Gangtok last week and i am thrilled to read this essay.The pristine and natural beauty of the Himalayas is a gift from nature that all Indians must cherish.Himachal Pradesh is another beautiful state and i hope they don`t promote industry in that state and ruin it all.I remember staying at Manikaran Sahib Gurdwara and enjoyed taking a bath in the river that flowed next to it.I got an instant wake-up call right there.India is truly a magnificent country.I hope all indians will wake up to that fact and cherish it.

On the other hand, i thought i`ll write an essay about my trip to Gangtok, and i find someone has beaten me to it!!!.Cool.And, i`m sitting in dreary Queens, on my yearly trek to the fast rotting apple to do my taxes and other middle class stuff.I can`t wait to get back home.To Bharat.

yes, the himalayan region is beautiful but ``development`` has systematically spoilt things. No wonder the hill folks look upon plains people with suspicion. Not only do the guys from the plains steal their livelihood, they also play havoc with the fragile ecosystem. Look at the major construction activities in uttaranchal. Hedious cement structures mushrooming all over. That these are eye-sores is a lesser evil. Hard to take is the fact that the mountains can take just this much and no more weight. We have a major disaster in the making.
