Manto,
Ok. So its Delhi college scene you were talking about. Still, I`ll be damned if such music is popular in south campus. Nonetheless, let me tell you; pretty girls notwithstanding, Delhi and Delhites` attitude is a big embarrassment for the rest of India (and most of Delhites themselves). Me and my friends who been to Delhi clubs/pubs were pissed at the DJ, except when he`s playing dance numbers and yes, those ``shameless`` remixes. Believe it or not, best music in clubs and parties in Delhi is played by a few Israeli bands.
One thought though: If your music is good you dont need music videos to promote it. I wonder about Adnan`s popularity if his videos were not graced by Bollywood starlets. Take it from me that no self-conscious DJ plays Adnan in his club. Therein lies the whole point. World`s biggest pop stars are Britney, JLo, Shakira, Kylie Minogue; but are they really producing good music?
It`s pretty obvious that Indian music is not being marketed as much in Pak as Pak music is done here. Even Indians dont know what`s happening in Bombay-Pune, Chennai, Bangalore Rock scene. Or the musical orgies organised in the outskirts of Chennai. Annual event of Vasantahabba outside Bangalore. Live music in the dingy bars of Goa. It`s good in a way. No one wants vandals from Delhi with their crass tastes gatecrashing into such parties.
Cheers

But ana this blurb is very much there taken from the mishi khan write up at n0:1.

this doesn`t appear here in his article, but `tis a blurb on the front page, under the listing of his article:
There are two kinds of bad music. Bad music by pretty okay musicians (like the ones making this list), and bad music by equally bad musicians (like the ones that would require a separate, 200ft list for which I have no time or energy).

There is one song I don`t see on this list that truly deserves it. It was a song released by an anaemic, hijra-looking younger brother of some singer or the other (I don`t remember the name). The song is called ``Kapray tang`` and the video starred Nirma in, you guessed it, a rather tight local version of a tank-top.
It was the most aweful aural assault I have ever suffered. It came out about 5 years ago and was all the rage in the hostels of my university (the video was of course). For a week or so you would go down a corridor and would hear two or three different instances of it from different rooms where the guys were playing the video on their PCs and watching Nirma gyrate in ``tang kapray``.

Re: # 29
The Film was `` Aik our Love Story `` ....
the song was sang by `` Lucky Ali `` brother of `` Sajjad Ali ``.......
and I agree.....on the vulgarity ....and stupidity of the treatment metted out to that Song.... But then that Film has some pretty good numbers....
Like `` Bheegey bheegay Mousum meen ``..and
and `` meen bhi kharidaar hoon .......``......

When you talk about the ``top 20 worst`` (or the 10 worst... or even 5 worst for that matter).. you cannot Not-include EP.

of course folks have their own tastes in music. . . and some of us are very vocal about it, but ``irtiqa`` does have some good material on it.
originality ki baat karo tau who really is ``original`` anymore? even hamara apun NFP is far from original. :) it`s all a matter of how well you can work at something borrowed. . .or in some cases ``shamelessly imitated.`` Like what jazz artists have done with classical and medieval tunes. . . if you can go beyond the original, that`s the top. unfortunately there are those who do not go beyond. ali azmat can try all he wants to imitate hendrix for example. . . but hendrix rules, hands down!
just a thought from someone who is incredibly sleep-deprived right now.
adios.

Aqaris//mantolives
101% spot on, bros. These Bollywood freaks seem to always be PMSing when handling Pakistani stuff.

``They are doing what are scared of doing``
yea. i suppose it does take a lot of nerve to imitate others so shamelessly and then claim to be ``GENUINE``...
Zulfi was doing fine on his own with Paradigm.... Why Zulfi?

Paracha saheb this was like a bee sting, why you are always bashing young artists
who look towards influential writers like you? Abbas Ali Khan is really talented but you just bashed him away. These people work hard but rude critics like you just throw them out your window

what is NFP`s association with EP? How can he turn a blind eye to the nonsense they come up with? EP is prolly the most embarassing thing (among other things) that happend to the Pakistani ``pop`` music industry...
Lead singer is James Hetfield, The fat-a$$ is Fred Durst and the rest of em are remains of Nirvana... if you`re not any good, atleast just be yourself!
NFP, what are you sulking about all the time?

saazman u must be new here, Paracha has already done 20 best albums and songs on chowk. And this was coming, Im sure he was itching to do this. And this wont `wreck our scene,` just seperate the crap from the great.
#19 Posted by saazman on June 3, 2005 5:15:05 am
I hope next time you(nfp) will come up with 20+ best songs by the young nd talented paki pop palyers ...i wonder y dint u go for listing the super hits by these singers instead of making an attempt to wreck the paki pop scene ..

Blugaze dude, I`m sure you are lucky enough not to have heard these songs. Becaue if you live in Paakistan, then one can just not escape most of these numbers. Each oneof them are played again and again across out TV channels and FM radios. But I disagree with NFP on a couple, but I do agree with him on most, especially Atif, Najam and Salman and that creep, Deeno.
