Hypothetical question: if I declare I want to stage a play tomorrow called ``Mr. Hitler``, even if it showed the nice compassionate vegetarian progressive side of the late great dictator, I`d assume somebody from the authorities would worry about it. Would that be unreasonable (them worrying I mean). Or how about, even better ``Mr. Bin Laden``. Huh? Think the FBI won`t wanna snoop in if I tried to stage that beauty on Broadway?
Mocking the police with one`s superior writing skills is such a futile exercise. As if they care. As far as they are concerned, ``reading scripts`` IS as important as managing traffic or fighting crime, especially since in our bloody country, lives have been lost and massive property damaged for far less reasons. If that isn`t comprehensible to ASMITA and their supporters, so-called proponents of free speech, nothing that a bunch of anonymous interactors on some obscure website can do will change their mind.

a) I have received direct eMails from Arvind Gaur, apologising for the behaviour of anonymous people claiming to be his well-wishers. I have told him that he need not apologise, the question here is of freedom of speech so his friends are entitled to it, even if they feel I am not.
In any case, the mask of anonymity is not one that works very well on the Internet anyway.
b) Sanguine/Sangeeta Das and Bottle-Neck are best ignored, for failing in syntax and grrammarr, not to mention speling.
c) baron_snoopy:- the only reason I called Sanguine a Bengali female is because she said so in one of her own interacts as a sort of badge of superiority. This has got to be a very disappointing thread in term of the level of interacts here.

As for mr. Subroto -- You have writely raised the same question that we have been asking since 21st june.
I think you have got into the lop a little late and probably you didn`t check the papers of the past 20 days. Each and every paper in delhi and across India have been reached and they are continuously covering the matter. Most TV channels were present when the play was not allow to happen. Ven now papers in mumbai chennai etc are writing on this. Last sunday Times center page had a huge article. What more media attention could we ivoke?
But we consciously warn the reporters not to write on an individual play and ASMITA but the colletive Artists viewpoint and taking tha Ban as a action against the entire artist group. Or else if we kept the cause to our micro level it would seem we were only worried about our own play and our own success.
AS for what you have written about my prejudice is not my prejudice... you obviously haven`t read the entire 140 postings of the forum and only reacted to my posting. Because i am getting a feeling that if you werereading it you would know that right from the beginning ASMITA members didn`t write anything to anybody. It was only after we got some queries that we decided to write from posting 85 onwards.... and nowhere will you find that we I or Arvindji was impolite to anybody.....
but when it got too much and people were actually referring to us as idiots and what not then I did retaliate.....
just because they don`t know us doesn`t give them the right to think that they can say whatever they want which could be hurting our sentiments..... and yesterday was too much for the past 5 days I have been ignoring the personal attacks on th eteam, the director, me and there was rampant character assasination happening.....
that I am bengali and communist and what then I did react... and very sharply and I am not ashamed of it.

as they say in hindi -- hati chalte hai to peeche kuchh bhaunkte hai.....
But I also know that if the barking gets intolerable then all I had to do is turn around and pick a stone even if I don`t intend to throw it.....

Basically you did not understand the point I and others were making. India is a society ruled by certain laws (however imperfect) and for those laws it should not matter how important or well known a person is or what is his track record. Everybody must be equal. Unfortunately though in case of Law`s, society etc. it is not so. Well known and powerful do bulldoze their way. But as an individual I can try to be rational and , for the lack of better word, moral. So Gaur being a well known director is immaterial here (though does have some weight) for me and was the crux of my interact before -- might be trying to become more famous and known(As compared to what he is today) so in future nobody dares to stop him...
From my perspective, Suppose tommorow an unkonwn/wellknown RSS wallah (and I am neutral here but just based on prejudice/comments I see about RSS might be a good example IMO) wants to stage a show ``Main Jinnah Hoon`` or ``Main Mohammed Hoon`` (I can give more macabre examples but), And Delhi police does not/does give permission for that? Either way somebody will be up in arms. Should we blindly follow the ``Free Speech and Art`` motto without understanding what is in the play (for either scenario).
I think this is what most of the interacts here are trying to convey in different ways to you and Gaur... And I do want to mention that I am not 100% with ban decision but I am not 100% too with ``Ban is bad`` decision.

On the other hand he is quiet a joke in press circles now. Veeresh is the database of abuses. So every morning it goes, “hey what’s new from Joke d(e)base.”
I feel he should keep debaseing himself..... It gives us our personal flogging horse, and enjoyable storms of laughter in the coffee breaks. and bottleneck no more sikh jokes move aside santa banta, veeresh malik is here. we will have sicker jokes.

My other viewpoint of trying to understand this psyche of jinnah hatred is --
Actually the problem with hindus is that there is no such devil in the hindu psyche. Even “Yama” the god of death is a god, who is quite respectable in his decision to cut short our lives. And happens to be a very wise and learned man who guards the gates of heaven/hell. Unlike the devil in other beliefs, the Hindus don’t have a pronounced devil that can be used to scare the children. It’s always the Bhagwan who grants all wishes and also punishes at the same time. So constantly they keep needing the devils in human forms. And probably Jinnah suffices that post well in the modern day India. So jinnah is put in that position where he can be hated and hated to the content of one and all.
Besides its in human nature to find one face to throw all the shoes on. You can never throw shoes on a whole team or else you will miss your target. So you chose one man. Just like Advani was doing nothing against the RSS, VHP or the BJP agenda. But he got all the flak because he was in the front. Or top rather. All those who were below him holding him up are running around scot free.
Nobody, none of us were present when the partition happened. Even the people present at that point of time can’t explain what happened, that suddenly Jinnah and Nehru were locking horns. What happened, that on one call by Jinnah millions rose and left their homes and followed him like the pied piper. There certainly were other people but they were in the shadows so jinnah was in the limelight getting all the brickbats. As for Nehru and Gandhi Well I won’t go in the details I guess everybody knows.
People who think any of these people were the sole reason and thus should be hated, have forgotten the chapter on British imperialist policy of “Divide and Rule” SO they should be given a middle class history book to re-read it.

Acting is reacting. All artists react to what we see in the society. And if hatred is affecting an artist he will try to re-interpret it so that it opens a window of reasoning in the suffocating clamour of closeted minds. It is the artist who brings some sense into this madding world and relief in stress and peace of mind in disharmony. Art is the medicine for soul. And as long as there are issues in the society which hurts the artists he will continue to project those plays and poke fingers into the eyes of the people. We are not outside the society. Just as ART forms can be the voice of voiceless people. Similarly ART can be the balm for many. Through films, books, paintings, plays, music and dance an artist is always trying to heal, himself and those who are open enough to accept it.
I personally feel, Jinnah hatred is one such thing which if revisited, understood, healed will heal a lot of pain in a lot of hearts and souls in both side of the border.
AS long as an artist doesn’t feel what he is doing, he can’t create. He thinks out the reasons but when he starts creating he feels with his heart and soul. In films when someone has to cry they use glycerin. But in our plays when we need to show that the character is hurt, we keep doing the scene over and over again and again till we get totally into that character and feel his pain and then the tears start flowing. That is why probably when his creativity or creative endeavor is hurt it hurts him directly in his heart and soul.
It has happened with every play so far so Jinnah is nothing new. That is why when the artist’s creativity is humiliated he actually cries. Not for himself but maybe because he couldn’t get the story of his character across to the people.
The evidence of mindless injustice towards artistic media In INDIA can be seen intwo examples
Vlad the impaler is a much-loved man in Transylvania but if you went to look for Count Dracula they will not ban your point of view. Their love for their king doesn`t get insecure if you hated him as a ghost. If we made a play about Dracula as a king who was ruthless to turks, everybody will love it. And it won’t be banned in Transylvania either.
On the other hand in exact contrast to this
if you have a very detestable character In India you tend to worship him because he brings you money and fame. for eg. Shahjahan. If we made a play to show that he was a very ruthless ruler, who cut the hands of 20,000 artisans, had a harem of 300 women whom he kept like chicken in an underground cell, was probably incestuous towards his own daughter and blindly in love with his eldest son but constantly humiliated his youngest son and daughter which made them retaliate later.
If we showed this truth in the play there will be major reactions. Because he is known to be the “most romantic king” not just because he made a grave which is a major source of income for the tourism industry. Apart from that the Taj commissioned by him is India’s identity or signature. You can’t trample with it. In this forum Someone is absolutely convinced that The person with the latin handle is from ASMITA. HA HA HAHA HA and the others are also following like dumb buffaloes in hindi its called Bher-chaal, because He was the only person who showed them a mirror.

(read BC MC CH and other selective abuses from their wide range of vocabulary) and then suddenly the focus shifted from the article to calling names and abusing and what not.
2. Then there are this whole bunch of people who have convinced themselves that ASMITA is name/fame/money and power hungry. nothing in this world could convince them of otherwise. For eg. Burp-whatever... this bunch is so convinced that they have not stopped at abusing ASMITA as idiots, and even insulting the lady members of the group. Maybe because they have got to know that ASMITA is a small group. If the same thing had been about Naseeruddin Shah or NSD then you would have found these very same bunch rooting for them and yes sir you are the greatest sir.
I think this bunch doesn`t read anything else than page 3 and hasn`t read any news item on the play in the past one month.
The minute he saw one line about the ASMITA groups monetary problems he convinced himself that ASMITA (whoever she is is trying to sell her book) he doesn`t even know who or what ASMITA IS.
I think Mr. Gaur you should not clarify your position to this bunch of nerds. This kind of people are the ones who know only one way of life, their own way. there is now other way and if a group of people get their genuine cause on a forum then they feel the they are selling poverty or asking for alms or creating sensation for money.

He still hasn`t understood the topic but is constantly writing long postings and insists, ``please talk to me on this subject because I know this very well I can`t talk on anything else.`` in other words, I don`t understand that so I won`t talk lest I appear stupid.
There is a saying when the gray hair starts growing the gray matter starts diminishing.

In fact I have already started it, because it`s obvious that you are only a hero in Chowk outside in the journalistic media nobody even knows who you are. And this Virus is also convinced that Theatre is only a stepping stone for film or ad jingles…. He is so ill-informed or blinkered that there are theatre personalities like naseer kher, shabana, and hundreds of other film personalities are floating between film theatre and TV. This guy probably can’t even grasp that all three of these performing arts are just branches of one stem.
Mr.Veeresh a just a writer who can write has the freedom to write essays, stories, plays, poems and just as a good singer can sing classical, folk, devotional, pop, ghazals or anything similarly an actor can do anything that satisfies his art. For that he doesn’t need the shine of gold.
Actually I think you used to write obituaries and the shine of fold pushed you to write book reviews now. And bailame what trash you write. I felt like puking on them. No wonder you are only confined to this chowk. And ranting like the madman of the chowk.
