Romair,
Nice relavatism there....but the phone book is NOT the internet....and even callers who harrass people are prosecuted for ...yes, you guessed it, harrassment....
Also, quite amusing that free speech to you is not something to be protected and used judiciously, but an instrument of intellectual pygmies in the fundo world to vent their anxieties and commit criminal acts...bravo!

don’t listen to temp. when was the last time he went on a first date? it’s important to make a good first impression on a first date, especially if you want a second one. so run home and wear a tie. it also comes in handy if you want to strangle your date. which it may surprise you to know, happens often.
and do treat urstruly well. he has precious sensibilities.

Hamidm2 Sahib, {``salim mian, .... temp might be a little matronal and samina might be a little patronal (when it comes to the fine arts) but i think they are fine people ......... ntsyed is one stick short of a suicide belt, romair is your typical fauji and urstruly ........well, i will let you know about him after our date ............. i hope he shows up - i have taken the rest of the afternoon off and maybe we can catch a movie or something ...``}
Hamid Sahib,
You forgot to mention Mr. Godot. :)
Ntsyed, with or without his belt, is definitely very witty and humorous. I just loved his ``zebra stripes`` admonishment on the ``Purdah`` board. I don`t know when I laughed that much. :)
While I question Romair`s spin on military budget statistics, I do admire his cool, rational, and compassionate treatment of Mr. Temporal - a lesson to all of us in the art of benign throat slitting.
Urstruly is consistent and therefore more credible than either Tempy or Ms. Saminasha. I don`t have to agree with a man`s politics to appreciate his integrity. If you are having a drink with him in TO, may I suggest that you take him to the Brass Rail on Yonge St, just before Bloor. Might do you both a lot of good. The drinks are on me, I will send you my Amex # via separate e-mail. :)
Enjoy!
Salim

Bannjara
Explain to me how, other than belittling, would you ``perceive`` the following:
--gender equivalent: your fly is open
--aasaan urdu: aapkay matkay main paani nahiN hay
--shaeri main: aaNkh jo kuch daikhti hay lab pay aa sakhta nahiN
--classical: the emperor has no clothes...
When one attacks, he/she should be ready to be attacked in kind. This is a war zone and when you fire, don`t expect candy in return. Just like everyone else, it`s all perception for me at Chowk. How it cannot be? I respond the way I perceive a post. You know my perception of the above gem from your ``fine gentleman``. Hence my response.
Now, go have tea with your ``fine gentleman`` aka naked emperor with his talent exposed before you get caught in the line of fire unnecessarily.
PS: If that is a personal attack, so be it. We have found out his talent. More to come depending on the response.

Saminasha #112: ``Personal information on any interactor, be it their full names, photos, workplace addresses, personal addresses SHOULD NOT be posted without the EXPRESSED PERMISSION of the interactor on this website.....Why would this basic civil right be considered ``self righteous``?``
It is not self-righteous. As I stated, people should not indulge in abuse, nor in passing on personal information. It is in bad taste. Definitely. But is it illegal? If I put my picture on the Internet, or post my comments in a public domain, is it technically illegal for you to then distribute them? If you and I meet, is it then illegal for you to tell people whether I am short, tall, fat, thin, ugly, good-looking etc.?
I am not a lawyer, but to the best of my knowledge (I could be wrong), unless I place some info in the public domain under professional and legal copyright restrictions, it is fair game. The only way I could go to a court of law and win a case against someone passing on info about me is if I can prove he/she is falsifying it. Not by proving it is in bad taste. That is where freedom of expression comes in. A rule which everyone praises, until they become a victim of it.......
If today I publish my phone no. if the phone book, you can distribute it anywhere, since I, myself, put it in the public domain. If you call me and give me your phone no. or put it on a website, I believe, I can legally give it to anyone I want.........
So, whenever any public domain is involved (like Chowk) one has to basically accept the fact that there will be individuals who will indulge in abuse and spreading of personal info that one has placed in the public domain (in any such domain, outside Chowk). I really don`t know what one can do to restrict that. Other than reducing the, ``public`` part of Chowk. But in that situation, who decides who is civil and who is not. One person`s freedom of speech is another person`s abuse...........
The best way to control that is to be very careful about what information one lets out anywhere, if one is going to regularly interact publicly, on a site like this. For example, I never place any specific details about my business on Chowk. And I am very careful about meeting or personally interacting with anyone who could use info about me to harm my business......

Temporal has directed Chowk Staff to keep the count of the number of interacts, but delete the ones (that`s almost all of them!) that portray his unfortunate reality. :)
The deleted posts will be replaced by acceptable ones prepared by Mr. DM, Mr. Hamidm2, and Ms. Saminasha. Temporal gets his count and all posts are happy happy win win.
...Mushy can learn much from this Himmler. :)

Romaine Shab,
Is good I have just had my two plates of haleem, or I would be so hungry, even your nam would being eaten by me. I was thinking, how right you are! How right you are! As desis we are suffering from this goondapun against the Muslim world-nobody likes us and they are killing us everywhere! What are we to do? Fatso Bibi has now enrolled in a poetry workshop and dinraath I hear, ``show, dont tell!`` ``abey fatso mehboob`` i say, ``i am trying, but the showing is harder than telling!`` Always she is asking for me to think about nuance. Hain?! Fatso Bibi, I am a simple si admi, I fold my hands and tell her. You are either black or white. What if you are brown? she asks (those damn sabzi diets are making her too sharpsharp!) Fatso bibi, then you are as god made you and who are we to ask questions, hain? You know your family is Syed and my family is Russia and that is all that matters, hain! But that is not good enough. Now she come back with poetry assignment. Now teacher sahb wants no cliche. Hain?! This is against desi code of ethics fatso!, I am crying. Issstop that! Fatso Bibi is scolding all the time now. Now she say, do you have any own thoughts? Why make everything cut and fried, hain? What did you think about the Frank O`Hara diary poems she ask. I like idea but am too embarrassed. Fatso, I was too hungry and I ate the poems at snacktime. Now is seeming like no showing or telling tonite.
