Congrulations Azmat. The baby is really cute.

``Now my wife has some misguided views about raising our daughter she seems to think that she is going to impart the same religious values and rituals that she practices. As you may understand by now that is not going to happen. The simple reason is that I will teach my daughter moral principles and not allow her to practice rituals. ``

Your wife is going to have her way, this I can tell you.

BTW, why this contempt for the ritual. Does it stop you from teahcing your child the ``moral pinciples`` and ``self-respect and to have dignity and self worth``.

Does your wife write? It will be a good read if she could write aboute your ``misguided views`` on raising children.

Hello Saminasha,
No disrespect to any women was intended. I hope women ARE succesfull in their attempts at what has traditionally been a male dominated environment. I was hoping that such leadership came as a natural outcome of thier character, dedication and commitment. You are right about one thing, that women who are taking on the establishemnt have not yet EARNED the respect of the community. I appreciate your comment, I can see how my Ad-Hominem does not address the issue.

All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school.

These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don`t hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don`t take things that aren`t yours. Say you`re sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that. Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we. And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Azmat Shaib,

We could see the cute little child so secure in her fathers lap. She reminds me of my own daughter who would sleep in my laps , just like your daughter, for hours together.

Dont burden yourself and your child with pre-conceived notions. Just enjoy her company and let her see the world through her little eyes. Being a girl, she has better intincts than men like us. Let her decide how she wants her world to be like. As a father, you just have to tell your experiences of your life and let her decide for the best.

Since you are in the States, you just have to tell her that we oriental people cannot be like the westerners. We are more emotional, we are religous(if you dont mind) and we believe in strong family and social values.

Teaching all religions to her is a good idea but it should not be at the cost of rediculing the religion of her birth.

My daughter has now grown up. But I think the best days of my life were when she was a little child and when she played with me.

I can only pray to God the good days what I have seen with my daughter, you all see them in the days to come.

All the best.

It appears you`re planning to teach the little one the liberal and performing arts, pure and applied sciences, the `humanities`, all religions, technology, games, music, etc., etc. Quite an overload, unless you`re going to dilute the syllabi. This all round education can be sometimes taxing. Why don`t you let her be and enjoy her as she is? All the best with parenthood.

Serenity Now!

Man...what a contrast.

I mean just compare this worthless tit on a bull`s ass for a write-up with ``Growing Up Red``.

Ima goin` back to readin` that`n again and again and again until my mouth loses the foul taste this one caused.

After that I`m sure it`ll be better to chant the following than coming back to this board:

ma ki dua jannat ki hawa
pappu yaar tung na ker
abay choozay k unday, insaan bun ja
zeena chhor seerhi la; chhat per ja; tahmed ki murghi chura k la
tahmed32: ``meem seen zabar muss jeem daal zer jid; maseeed``...

Azmat Hussain,

Don`t you have any diapers to change or something? BTW, CSNY said the same thing a long time ago, only in about 2 stanzas and with a lot more feeling and a lot less mumbo-jumbo about religion.

The only thing that emerges from these ramblings is that it`s YOU who are supremely confused about religion.

Anyway, all the best. I can`t imagine it`s easy raising a child these days.

``i suggest they post their own pictures for comparison or shuttup ``

Why do we need anyones photo for comparison here?
does it mean a better looking person can make fun/insult a not so better looking one?

for those who think that they are good looking, just wait for another 20 years. beauty is only skin deep.

Azmat sahib: you are on the right track, particularly the absurd manner in which you were taught religion and which your wife wishes to pass on to the poor child.

But you have made it too complicated. Keep it simple. Just focus on teaching your child some basic values: taking care of small things, e.g. always telling the truth, taking care of one`s health, taking responsibility starting with doing homework in kindergarten. The big things then take care of themselves.

Congratulations,
I also have a one yr old daughter, me and my wife also have similar beliefs. Obviously, your daughter would be a Muslim but by imparting her knowledge that there other peoples also on this planet you would be making her a wise and intelligent person.

Good Job!

azmat hussain,

you`re going to be a great dad because you have the one quality that matters the most in parents..... the need to instill morality and kindness in children

that said, it would not be a big deal if your wife did teach basic Islamic tenets to your daughter....as long as a maulvi is not in the equation and as long as moral values and tolerance for others is emphasized..

.NEVER let a stranger teach YOUR kids about religion, their interpretation may be entirely different than your wifes or yours.

at some point, your daughter will be informed enough to make a decision about religion by herself.

also, do not undemphasize the importance of a good female figure in your daughter`s life.
even if your wife practices rituals, as long as she is not a bad person, your daughter`s upbringing WILL NOT suffer....women are morally stronger than men, as proved by history

in any case, i think your heart is in the right place

#23 gorillay, my good friend amrita has told me that aish rai and other ``gorgeous`` madrasis are acutally the same racial stock as Europeans, who have lived in South India without compromising their European genetic makeup. They are like 1-7% of the population and still speak German at home. The DMK and AIDMK have tried to screw these foreigners without success so far. I was referring to the son of the soil madrasis in my post below.

vaisay, I think aish rai`s complexion is the same as a skin of a chippkalli`s belly (we used to kill `em when we were kids hehehe) due to frequent use of bleach creams........
