hamid:

one doesn`t always know with you when to take you seriously or not. . . . but i am disappointed that you seem to also stand by the statement that sherman made.

chalo, three cheers for compassion!

I find this outrage at ranjit`s disgusting remarks very funny. Apparently only Hindus and Indians must not say this, but a whole Pakistani Army can operate on this basis - that they, the PA are the defenders of Islam and agents of God`s wrath on Afghanistan and India and they alone decide who was the shaheed who will go to heaven and who was the kafir, who won`t.

So of course if a Pakistani jihadi decides to kill an Indian or Afghan, that IS God`s will of course and a Pakistani just needs to throw an almighty tantrum whenever an Indian mentions that, to be called liberal.

..... regardless of the foolishness of some indians, i still stand by my statement :``.......... some of my best friends are ``madrasi help desk engineers`` - all my paki friends deserted me when they reverted to islam at the age of forty``........... it is particularly true during the month of ramzan, aka ramadhan ............. but we must recognize the deep rooted mistrust and hatred between the two people - let us not forget that there was more in common between a bosnian muslim and a serb than between a kashmiri muslim and a tamil hindoo ......... it is only a matter of time before the mutual slaughter begins, again ......

...... but individual acts of compassion are still a nice prelude to communal slaughter ..........

Ranjit`s comments display the same kind of fanaticism and bigotry that is common place amongst our mullahs...

difference? Our mullahs usually don`t pose as secular liberal humanitarians as fanatics like Ranjit do...

Re: # 92

The Pakistani army`s basic function on the LoC is to defend the Pakistani side of the LoC. It`s first concern was that after the earthquake was to make sure that it was still able to do its job of defending the LoC; it had nothing to do, with the intentions of the Indians to sneak an attack across the LoC.

If, I were the army officer in charge, at that place in that moment, my first thoughts would have been to make sure that I was still in command of the situation and the situation meant keeping an eye on the Indian posts across the LoC.

I am sure, your army would have done the same, because I know it is a professional army. Armies are trained to follow strict procedures and armies are not deployed across highly militarized zones to earn popularity points and neither are they trained to give the opposition the benefit of doubt because there happens to be an earthquake. As a line from the movie said it, ``it is just business; nothing personal``, and that sums up the working attitude of both the armies on the LoC.

[Added to this is the fact, that Kashmir has its own status, with a President and PM, and has not been under Martial Law.............]

I have been asking this question for years now, but Romair, the know-all of Chowk hasn`t attempted to answer. By now Chowkies must have realized that the man doesn`t like answering uncomfortable questions, but I`ll bite the bullet once again, if only to expose Romair`s boasts for what they are, pure and unadulterated lies.

If Kashmir has its own so-called ``status``, along with a ``PM`` and ``President`` (read stooges of the ruling General of the day), why is it that every Kashmiri contesting the local elections required to sign and undertaking promising his wholehearted support and efforts towards the accession of J&K to Pakistan?

Why wasn`t Amanullah Khan, the JKLF chief, allowed to contest elections because he refused to sign this undertaking?

Kashmiris want to join Pakistan.

I`ll buy them maps..They are free to leave...

I think many of our Indian colleagues are greatly underestimating how well-respected the Pakistan military is in Pakistan`s Kashmir.

most of your Indian colleagues couldn`t care less...Most Indians don`t care about Paki Kashmir..you could give all of it away to the chinese...

It is the exact oppisite (literally 180 degree opposite) of the Indian Army`s impression in Indian Kashmir.

Trust me...what matters is what a majority of Indians think..and they think the Indian army should do whatever it takes to keep Kashmir...just the same as bombay or delhi...

Bhatti Saab #89: ``but `some` Paks have certainly said that and rationalized its loss on those lines. secondly, your comments about Pak Kashmir being dependent upon Pakistan...I don`t neccessarily disagree with that.... what I pointed out is that isn`t that realization too late....after so much suffering of Kashmiris and spending by you guys, you pointing to the same direction as was re Bengalis? either way what you have said in your post #75 will seriously offend Kashmiris and even some Paks.``

If you cannot find something, then kindly do not quote me........I have made my views clear to you, regarding Bangladesh. I believe in self-determination. And I think events would have folded better had Pakistan and Bangladesh been two countries from the begining. I think such a long distance relationship, lead to a situation where both did not want to live with each other. And are now more comfortable and in a better relationship, as separate countries. Go ask any Bangladeshi, and he will tell you the same thing.......

My remark will not offend Kashmiris, because I am, myself, one. So the last thing one needs, is for someone in India, to lecture Kashmiris and Pakistanis, on Kashmir. Muzzafarabad, along with one more city in Pakistan, is the traditional home base for my whole family. Uptil a few years ago, a large chunk of my family lived there. I thought many of them would have died. But, I just found out, luckily, most of their families had retired over the past few years, and moved into Punjab. As recently as a few years ago. Two very distant relatives did die, though. And some distant relatives are still there..........

My views on Kashmiris, and their own views, are exactly opposite to the situation in Bangladeshis. Kashmiris want to join Pakistan.

I think many of our Indian colleagues are greatly underestimating how well-respected the Pakistan military is in Pakistan`s Kashmir. Take it from me, I know. It is the exact oppisite (literally 180 degree opposite) of the Indian Army`s impression in Indian Kashmir. Added to this is the fact, that Kashmir has its own status, with a President and PM, and has not been under Martial Law.............

Ranjit,
your views are disgusting. blame the pakistani army and jehadis, but what has the innocent
children, women and men of pok done to deserve this. if the quake had got the pak army top brass who are responsible for the situation in kashmir it would have been a different matter.

A lot of being said about the earthquake-I do not want to add anything to it. But I want to clear one thing to the Pakistanis.

It is true that every now and then Indians come bashing for Pakistanis. Pakistanis react violently. But have the Pakistanis ever asked themselves why do the Indians do this to them at all????

The fault does not lie with the Pakistani people. It does not lie with the Indians either. Actually, the fault lies first with the Pakistani Establishment and second with the Indian Media.

Take the instance of recent earthquake. Indian PM made offer of help to Pakistan. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson turned it down with the comment that if India wants Pakistan`s help, Pakistan`s would be willing to do so. Here, a more mature statement like ``Thanks for the offer`` or ``We`ll get back to you`` would be more desirable. The second fault lies with the Indian Media. This news was played over and over again here in India as if Pakistan has insulted the Indian PM. Indians then start feeling ``Yeh Moonh aur Masur Ki Daal`` about Pakistanis. Let me tell you frankly the typical Indian reaction here was that ``Saari Duniya sey to bheekh maang rahey hain aur hum to aankeh dikhatey hain``.

So my request to the Pakistanis is, do not get offended by the remarks of Indians. They are your as good friends as others are. But the way your establishment treats them , whether by default or design, makes all the difference.

ranjit:

please feel free to join in the line of those religious nutjobs who are talking about divine retribution. what the heck do you know about ``the divine`` anyway? as for ``we indians``, some of ``we pakistanis`` are not going to be as ignorant and besura as you and your ilk to attribute your feelings to all indians - regardless of creed.

piss off!

This earthquake is a divine retribution against Pakistanis for their misdeeds against India. You people have given enormous grief and misery to countless people in India in the name of jihad, driven Kashmiri hindus out of Kashmir and attacked our places of worship. Every time your jihadies massacared innocent hindu families or killed our soldiers, we Indians would curse that you are wiped out. The collective curses from everyone in India has finally worked. God has listened to us and wreaked havoc on you.

Now you can feel the pain of losing innocent people, the same pain that you inflicted on us mercilessly for 20 years. The precise location of the earthquake is such that maximum casualties are on Pok, Northern Punjab and NWFP, the heartland for jihad. This is a sure sign that God is on our side and for you to learn a lesson.

I dont know why Indians are being compassionate now. Lets learn from Ghanznavi and Ghauri. Pakistan is our enemy and anything bad happening to our enemy is good for us. In fact, this gives the perfect opportunity to change the demographics in Kashmir. In the name of earthquake relief, let us move out muslims from there, relocate them to other parts of India and let hindus move into Kashmir.

It is amazing how Indians are now attacking Hamidm, who they were willing to give the status of `onorary `orrible `indoo only a few months ago...

Hamidm has always spoken his mind... and I will accept his views over any Indian or Omar Khan ... he has more credibility than any here.

Quake unites Sikhs, Hindus, Christians as Pakistanis

MANSEHRA: Radesh Singh, a Pakistani Sikh and his group of Hindu, Christian and Muslim friends have joined forces to help survivors of the devastating earthquake in northern Pakistan.

They hope efforts to provide relief and care would send a clear message of tolerance in the predominantly Muslim Pakistan. “We are here without any religious bias for people who are in dire need of help and care,” Radesh told Reuters in Mansehra, a district in Northwest Frontier Province now in ruins after Saturday’s disaster.

“We are also hoping that our efforts will give out a message that people from different religious backgrounds and communities can live peacefully together and help each other,” he said. An estimated 96 percent of Pakistan’s population are Muslim, about 1.7 percent are Christian and some 2.0 percent are Hindu, while others account0 for less than 0.5 percent.

Minorities in Pakistan have been targeted by Islamic militants recently. Just last week there was a bomb attack on a religious centre of the Ahmadiyya sect in the central province of Punjab that killed eight and wounded more than a dozen.

Radesh, who runs his own business in the province’s capital, Peshawar, came with a truckload of medicines, blankets, clothing and dry food mustered by his Sikh friends Rajinder and Ranjit Singh, Hindus Prakash and Diyaram and Emmanuel, a Christian. “It is simply an effort on our parts for the earthquake victims, who are in dire need of help. We have come here as human beings not as Sikhs, Christians, Hindus or Muslims,” Ranjit said. Rajinder and his Sikh friends were born in Peshawar and say they are Pakistanis first, second and last. “I even ran for the local bodies elections this time but lost,” Rajinder said. On Wednesday night they were faced with a different kind of problem. Having heard of incidents of looting of private relief vehicles and violence in badly hit areas, Rajinder and his friends stopped over in Mansehra, saying he and his friends wanted to distribute the goods under the supervision of the army.

“We just want these goods to reach the deserving people. We have come here as human beings and don’t want to get involved in any violent incidents,” Emanuel said. reuters
