As for your waving off dowry killings in India by saying there is a law against it - this proves my point about the domestic terrorists of India of whom you just proved yourself to be a sympathizer (and who knows, a practitioner as well). And with your answer that turns a blind eye to these killings, it proves you have no problem with dowry killings. And tens of thousands of women are burnt by their brave Indian husbands (with the help of their fathers and mothers). But, for Jay Thakeray that is not a problem. Since he is an example of the dysfunctional hindu society where humans are classified by caste, wives are burnt for money, unborn daughters are killed to avoid dowry expense.

Please try to understand that I wrote my post after the fact and not before that. The attack on US chopper has already happened. It is true that Pak authorities are trying to cover up and US authorities are trying to downplay it but it still does not change the fact tht the attack has occured. So the politically prudent way is that US & NATO forces must be asked to leave the area before such an act happens again. If the attack is repeated or results in casualties then the political fallout will be unmanageable by any propaganda or face saving.

Humiliation of pakistanis,

What I like about the world response to the earth quake is the humiliation meted out to the educated pakistanis. A world power, always comparing itself with india, could not deliver the supplies delivered at the ports of pakistan to its own people. Now this great nation is asking the world to pay for the truck drivers to take the free goods to the needy.

A nation bent up on getting F16 had to admit that it has only 35 helicopters.

A nation which can so called develop the bomb has no accines for tetanus and thousands are dying.

A nation that has so called developed fighter jets is seeking pain killers from the world.

The educated are so humiliated that they are claiminh that pakistan has set up camps on loc to help the indians.

When teh pak soldiers were saved by the indian troops, thgey are claiming that indians gave only shovels to the pakis, should be to shovel..it

I like the total humiliation of the pak educated and I hope that it will help them to open their eyes to the pak reality

Scientist Sahib… the circumcision doesn’t cut off any skin, it just rolls it back so the head can be seen. It is not mandatory in Islam, it is optional. Another name for Circumcisions is “SuntaN” or the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim. For Arabs it should be mandatory, as they can afford to have a little piece (even big piece) taken off. For Desis with small peepees, it should be optional. Every little bit counts.

About circumcision

Just my 2 cents ... someone may correct this:
It is true that few decades back it was thought prepuce (front part of the penis) was unnecessary and CAN be responsible for prepucial cancer. So, medical practice recommended circumcision. Most Americans of last generation (including baby boomers) were circumcised irrespective of religion. However, just like the story of tonsils, now the theory is reversed and it is believed that prepuce is not responsible for cancer. So recommendation: up to you ...if you want for religious reasons, do it. Otherwise you need not.
God was not that stupid to give it in the first place if it was not needed. For a biological scientist like me, this part would have been eliminated from the animal kingdom if it was totally unncessary. Evolution works that way.

But, what baffles me is that Abraham offered this piece of anatomy to GOD! Could not he find something else? If you really wanted to show your dedication and respect, give one of your fingers (pinky from left palm?) or a small toe. I find it really insulting to Allah saying.. take this and be happy, I have done my duty. Don`t we use this saying as an insult?

i have read that initially mohammed what to protray himself as a prophet of jews but was not accepted by them.

it seems he built islam on the existing practices of the region at that time. like adopting christian beliefs, jewish customs.

hmmm....

during early christianity, when it was just a jewish sect with Jesus and his brother James (?) being the leaders, circumcision was practised. early christians too were circumcised.

it was paul, who aboilished this practise and allowed uncircumcised males to become christians. historians say that was one of the defining moments in history which separated christianity from judaism.

I think you should calm down and think logically and reasonably. It is an undeniable fact that Americans have brought untold misery upon the people of this region through war and aggression - and that is true for people living with in Pakistani territory and in surrounding countries. Just imagine if a US chopper is downed today, it would be a horrible PR disaster for Pakistan and devistate the image its dictators are trying to project in the West. So if you do the cost benefit analysis, it is a lose-lose deal for Paksitan in all respects. American people are murderously prejudiced against the people belonging to the Muslim faith and do not hesitate or think twice before destroying the whole nations and countries if it doesn`t conform to their world view. So it is in best interest of Pakistan to thank Americans for their help; give their General a medal of honor or something and send them packing ASAP.

Most probably for similar reason...pork is un-kosher for jews, too. You could think of it as the process of ``sanskritisation`` among Arabs to emulate the brahmins of the middle east, i.e., Jews, the chosen people.

I do not know what is the religious reason behind the jewish banning of pork. It might be nothing more than the unhygenic eating habits of pigs. Many scholars have pointed out that the Hindu shunning of beef has its origin in the over-eating of the cow by earlier Indians who feared an extinction of the bovine animal who was so essential for the agrarian economy. These commonsense practices were perhaps made religious taboos for greater acceptance.
