yes harish iyer -- and you represent dawn`s entire readership do you ? i cant speak for dawn`s quality myself but feel free to ask around yourself moron -- HP`s analysis isn`t all that startling which implies that many others (many more than you would think) may agree with it as well -- obviously a gung ho bush-lover/paki-hater as yourself wouldn`t --

shri ramanujan shithead -- you sound like an indian military spokesman -- also moron we were talking of GDP not GDP per capita and not india`s IT exports either -- dont beat about the bush and change the topic when your bluff has been caught moron -- im as much a product of the madressah system shithead as you are of the RSS-run schools -- let me change that since you may have gone to such a school perhaps -- im as much a product of a madressah school as george bush is a product of a combination of wisdom, discretion and intelligence --

another thing chutiyae -- its not just the muslim groups which are organizing the protests in india --

Bush’s visit: Muslims call for strike in India

HYDERABAD, Feb 27: Muslim groups in a southern Indian city on Monday called for a daylong strike this week when US President George Bush visits, while communist groups vowed to hold a massive protest against the American leader.

Bush arrives on Wednesday and is scheduled to visit an agriculture university and a business management school on Feb 3 in Hyderabad, a key centre of India’s booming information technology industry.

Muslims comprise nearly 40 per cent of Hyderabad’s 7 million population.

“We are appealing to the people to keep their shops and business closed on the day of Bush’s visit as a mark of protest,” said Abdul Rahim Qureshi, a leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, an association of several Muslim groups that has organized the strike. “As Muslims, it is our duty to protest against the US policies, especially the inhuman atrocities in Afghanistan and Iraq and its continuing support to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine,” he said.

Mosques throughout Hyderabad, the capital of southern Andhra Pradesh state, unfurled banners reading: “We the people of India do not welcome the visit of US President George W. Bush.”

Communist groups and the Jamaat-i-Islami party, a hard-line Islamic group, said they will hold a massive rally in the city on Friday.

Meanwhile, leftist groups on Monday began collecting signatures from people across the city who oppose the visit, going to homes and traffic intersections. Islamic groups began a similar drive on Friday.—AP

shri arjun jee -- pakistan`s economic survey is not conducted by the FBS -- its by the ministry of finance who figures of growth of 8.4 per cent last year and 6.5-7 per cent this year have been accepted at face value by international institutions

fukface ramanujan -- moron u didnt contradict the indian economic survey but the figure i quoted you for pakistan`s GDP was from the prime minister`s budget speech of last june -- seems that even tho you didnt go to a madressah your brain is still in your pants

There would have been little need to intrude on this board had the editors of this website been more discerning and tolerant of criticism -- a question i raised in my ilog and also posted on the unplugged section was removed from the latter shortly after it was posted -- the question -- which i think is a very valid one -- is that how come the editor of this site manages to have six articles printed from dec 2 to dec. 28 ? I would like to be informed why it was taken off unplugged -- from now on the rules on this site should include the proviso that no questions should be asked from the editor regarding his/her articles -- ms versey if you are reading this, which i presume you would, then it`s quite a straightforward question to be asked -- given that (i am quite sure) all ordinary interactors or even columnists are not accorded such space -- that`s why an editor being visible is such a bad idea --

dear HP -- it can`t be instant because its not a website but yes they would -- see a letter in today`s Dawn (Dec. 24) -- where the writer has criticized the newspaper for publishing a letter

bina -- there`s a reason why editors of newspapers normally stop writing under their own bylines once they become editors -- because if they dont then what they write or what they say under their own byline may be confused with what the newspaper is saying -- and the editor is the paper`s representative voice -- a concept which seems alien to people here -- i mentioned it and the editor of this site began to question my use of office time etc but not a single substantive counter argument -- i think you give websites like these too much importance
