MBZ #4,
I am in violent agreement with everything you stated - simply brilliant.
Thanks,

Soysauce #129,
{``Besides, for a while, they were letting first & business class passangers thru with the most cursory of searches in domestic US routes. The explanation was that the hijackers had economy class tickets!``}

As with all large organizations, I am sure that Al-Qaida has its own bean counters that control travel costs. You probably need OBL`s signature to travel 1st class. :-)
Train to Pakistan 2004: La, Hore?

{``If Pakistani vehicles are being assembled from largely Indian-made components in any case``}

Now I understand the pollution problem in Karachi. No wonder Karachi is starting to become like Delhi and Bombay - and I thought it was the desert Cactus Gas.

Shahid,
Forget the screeners, what does it take to get flogged by one of those multilingual Air Canada stewardesses?

Military Intervention vs. Institutions’ Growth

mubakr #40,
{``Very good comments Mr. Tripple K but honestly, none can live in the past. .. where do we go from here?``}

Thanks for your response - BTW it is quadruple Ks (Khan, Khan, Khanna, and Kahn - my lawyers, but that is another story!). Where we go from here is to eliminate fedualism, ban religious/ethnic parties from contesting elections, and strengthen democracy by voluntarily inviting UN inspectors who can ratify or nullify election results until we can believe in our own institutions.

Veeresh,
Much better and quite interesting. Also you stated: ``But nobody will say one bad word about Musharraf in the bus.``

I have heard that Mushy often rides that bus from Pindi to La Hore. By the way, thanks for giving my favorite Paki city a French twist. So, are you now defining and naming a new alternate life style after truck drivers who overdo their decorations for their ``beloveds?``

Could you please publish the name of the men`s room warden at the Syal Chowk interchange? I have finally met a true hero. This is the type of man who can do wonders for both India and Pakistan. He has my vote.
Thanks for sharing this experience with us.

First of all, I don`t think that Shahid was trying to raise Muslim hysteria or to lend credence to al-Qaida`s viewpoint. Also, it is understandable that tahmed and others are trying to explain to Shahid about the mediocrity of his experience.
Now suppose the authorities said ``Will the following people please move to the extra-search lane - Husain, Mohammed, Ahmed, Khan, Hasan, and Al-Biryani.`` This sounds like picking on Muslims and would start, at a least, another riot at Chowk. As a counter-measure, Al-Qaida would simply recruit dozens of newly-released converted convicts who don`t have the money to have their name changed to Al-Shabaaz Yousuf Mohammed Mufane Zambia from Leroy Smith. Next, suppose they asked the following people to move over to the area where the nice uniformed men and women with rubber gloves are standing ready to probe every cavity that you have and some that you didn`t have: ``Will Khan, Ahmed, Singh, Ekbal, Kaladilwalla, and Sexyana, please see the people with the eager grins on their faces.`` Now we have profiling, based on national origin, and the ACLU will examine Tom Ridge`s rectum with a microscope. Al-Qaida will simply recruit Bosnian, Syrian, Chechen, Albanian, Chinese, or Nigerian houri-seekers to perform their missions. We will have Ahmed Aliwenttogethisgunonnavich, Husain Yusufgothisheadcutof, and Tarik Gungho escape the scrutiny that Indo/Pak/Gulf Arabs would endure.
So, the permanent cure is for the perpetrators to stop this nonsense and for the authorities to be as thorough as possible to avoid future hijackings. In the meantime, the most sensible thing to do is to find alternate means of transportation, while we determine the root causes for this fad of flying huge planes into tall buildings.

nikki #253,
We have something similar every year. Men and women, come from everywhere, mix in a large throng, dressed in only one piece of cloth resembling a toga. It is a multi-day bash with people getting dizzy by going round and round. Then we run back and forth and throw rocks - rather dangerous but lots of fun. The only problem is that these are mostly people on social security. There is rumor that they will involve younger people in the future. Let`s keep our fingers crossed. Stay cool.

kaka #80,
{``Or maybe go up a notch and say that we are all humans and all this Americanism, Arabism or any patriotism based on nationhood is the cause of much misery in the world``{

Man, at first I thought that you Kaka`d all over us. But, I think that I now understand what you want. You want to frogleap several levels of trivial and myopic associations. You want to go directly to the Kumbaya session, around the fireplace, arm in arm with all the aliens, roasting vegetarian tikkas, and drinking the non-alcoholic nectar of mutual love. You want an overarching universal lovefest that transcends mohalla, provincial, linguistic, national, racial, religious, sexual, and continental affiliations. Man, screw this mohajir/punjabi, Indo/Pak, TNT, Hindu/Muslim/Sikh/Christian/Jewish, White/Black/Brown/Yellow, hole/pole, and Euro/Afro/Asiatic bullshit. I am with you, my guru, lead us all to the Nirvana where we can frolic in the endless pleasures of intergallactic fornication.
Amen! Thanks for the deep and significant message.
When Balochistan bleeds, Why Pakistan Doesn’t Feel the Pain?

Anarejo #196,
{``While at the time of partition of India, millions of innocent souls were victimised on both side of the border. It was Balochistan, where fraternity and brotherhood prevailed among all religious groups, and not a single person from minority groups was ever killed. ``}
Stuka #197,
{``True. Though there was a significant Hindu population in Quetta there were no riots there. Wonder why??``}

Please take this response in the spirit of academic interpretation of historical events. Baluchistan is the least representative of the subcontinental culture - some may say, that culturally it doesn`t even belong in South Asia. Among their many faults, one thing that the people in West Asia do not suffer from is the curse of collective punishment. While they may be violent, even cruel in combat, historically, the people in this area do not engage in mass violence against minorities as was the case in the `47 killings in Bengal, Bihar, Punjab, and Delhi, or the carnage in Jubbulpur, Bangladesh, Delhi, Godhra, Ahmedabad, and other places. Most of the violence in West Asia is administered by the ruling authorities. Just an observation.

{``Ever since 9/11, whites are looking for Mideasterners, Mideasterners claim to be Orientals, Pakis want to look like Indians and Indians lie in the sun so they won`t look like Pakis.``}

That is quite funny. I like the way you expressed the turmoil in the world since Sept 11. People are looking for different role models since then - in many ways.

kaka #76,
{``kaka`s point is to point out that Pakistanism is as short-sighted a rallying point as any Mohajir/Punjabi divide, especially since Pakistanism was shot to pieces by the East Pakistanis in `71.``} ]

OK, so we are going to play this in 3rd person. Anything to humor you buddy. Anytime you bring up the `71 debacle, you got my attention and probably my agreement. You are right. I have to blame BD on someone, might as well give it to the Punjaibis. They deserve it! But after the great victory in Amsterdam, I want to preserve this Paki unity for at least 12 hours, please let me savor it. Thanks,

{``In view of the Indians present on this forum and of the general humanity on this planet, it seems ridiculous to tout your DaiRh-eenT-ki-masjidism as the `enlightened` view of the millenium..``}

Now you lost me. If you are competing with SameerJB for the title of Mr. Incomprehensible, you have a long way to go. But I think you are close to MBZ Isphahani. Just what do you mean by ``DaiRh-eenT-ki-masjidism as the `enlightened` view of the millenium.?`` I am not being sarcastic, but I did grow up in the US and don`t understand everything from Pak, especially the dairh, sawa, and pon stuff, we haven`t even gone to metric in the US, we are still doing feet, lbs, and fortnights, and don`t get started with seer, tola, rasha, matti, and annas.

{``Please take kaka seriously cos kaka is Dhair sara intelligent..``}
I have always taken kaka seriously. Yes, you are dismissed, but please use water, no paper - I am not that Americanized.

This was the best compliment I could have received. It made my day. My new friend, and ex-dueling adversary, Gujju (aka Gujjubania) started a thread on Chowk ``unplugged`` with the following message:

{`` Started by gujju1 on August 21, 2004 12:59pm PT

Maan..I just read a few posts on the thread on Baluchistan. You were actually quite brilliant there....totally beat the hell out of Manto , Dion and made them look rather stupid... all that without resorting to any vulgarities/obscenities ...
Obviously you have learnt a lot since your days as the ill fated Barachota. ``}

All I can say humbly is that I thank Gujju for his magnanimous gesture, genuine appreciation, and sense of fair-play. I am deeply touched. Thanks, Gujju, my Chota Bhai.

Wajahat #75,
{``I am not saying it out of any form of contempt for kaka (I respect the guy has his views), but your rebuttal was hilarious. :::)))))``}

I am glad that I got you to laugh. Actually, all the credit goes to Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi, they put me in the happiest mood in a long long time. Thanks for letting me know that it was funny. :-)
