Thank you Southasian. I appreciate your support. On FP, Chowk has put a filter on my messages. On UP, they just delete all my messages and erase any threads that I start. Being of Paki origin, I fully understand what is happening. Debating with ``kaffirs`` is a jihad, but having one of your own agreeing with the enemy is considered treason of the worst type - and of course, the truth doesn`t matter at all. Now you understand Pakistan and its sense of fairplay, justice, freedom of expression, and all that other good stuff that they are way ahead of India in.

No, my friend, I have not switched and certainly not sold out. I am right now campaigning against the brutal suppression of freedom of speech by this pseudo-liberal Paki website. If the issue ever changes to Gujarat or the treatment of minorities, especially Dalits, you will find me just as vehement and just as principled as before. To be credible, I cannot merely ride the anti-India camel and say nothing about the huge sandstorms of intolerance, suicide bombings, jihadis, dictatorial brutality, suppression of free speech, and sectarian violence that are rampant in Pakistan.
How are you my good friend. I hope everything is going well with you. One day, Inshallah, man will learn the evil in his own version of the ``truth`` and do what his heart says is right.

If indeed Pakis are concerned about the rights of Muslims, then they should consider this. India has somewhere around 140M to 180M Moose Limbs. Out of these 4 to 6M live in J&K. If all of J&K goes to Pakiland (let`s just say so hypothetically, even if we are only imagining things), then there will be somewhere around 136M to 172M Moose Limbs left in India - hardly a drop in the Mooslimbometer! However, the downside of such as catastrophe would be an immediate call for ALL IMs to leave India and go to Pakiland. Are you prepared to accept another 136M to 172M Mohajirs into Pakistan? I will anser that for you. If Pakiland refused to take back only 200,000 OF ITS OWN citizens from BD, do you think they will take a population equal or greater than their own?
So, maybe the best plebiscite to hold about J&K is to have a referendum among IMs. Should Kashmir be allowed to go to Pakiland, become independent, or remain a part of India? Regardless, the IMs have to live in India. They would prefer that J&K also remain in India. I think that closes the case.

As a future leader, strive to do good for ALL humanity. Do not trivialize your efforts by restricting them to one sect, one religion, one province, one race, or one class. Try to help all of God`s creations. Be principled, be firm, do not compromise on basic human rights. Support everyone`s right to speak and be heard. Do good and stay away from evil. Remember condeming shit is no big deal, we all are disgusted by it. Cleaning it up is the difference.
Young man, you are intelligent, perceptive, and not always pigeon-holed like the rest of them Pakis. You will go far, Inshallah.

I have been as much an aspirant of Kashmir to become totally Pakistani as anyone else. You need to step out of the swamp to see things differently. I look at Kashmir, Pakistan, India, current strife in Pakistan and communcal issues in India all with one very powerful telescope by focussing on all items at once. If Pakis really care about Kashmiris as their poor suffering Muslim brethren, then why not show the same compassion for :
Uighur Muslims Sinkiang - another adjacent, overwhelmingly Muslim region occupied by a ``Kaffir`` nuclear power.
Hundreds of thousands of stranded Muslims (and Pakis) in Bangladesh, who have suffered for decades and no hope to returning to the country of their citizenship.
Darfour - Millions displaced, thousands raped, thousands killed
Kurds - no freedom for these guys - solid Sunny Moose Limbs
Chechens - Even the Pakis are killing them
Nigers - Yes, they are also Moose Limbs and they are starving
Mauritanians suppressed by Moroccans - Again, do we agree that lighter-skinned Moose Limbs are better than darker-skinned ones?
Shias in Iraq - Yes, they are American puppets, even though they are in the majority
Shias in Afghanistan - Killing and raping them is a sawab according to one Tally Ban fatwa
Tajiks in Afghanistan - They are Sunny Moose Limbs, but not Pakhtoons, No nuswar and no same sex behavior gets them on Pakis` shit list.

Reunification
Godot,
Excellent and very timely article that has posed some very important questions. My friend, we need to be brutally candid here. Partition was a mistake and perpetuating a mistake is no solution. We can run back and forth among China, US, the non-existent Ummah, or even join the Organization of African Unity to seek the elusive reassurance and comfort that we have never attained. The basic fact remains that after decades of Indian struggle against British colonialism our leaders (and theirs) let us down and chose the path of division, destruction, bloodshed and divide and lose.
The choice that you did not mention is one of eventual reunification of India and Pakistan. It may be a bitter pill to swallow for most Pakistanis and many indians, but it makes the most sense. As a person of Pakistani origin, I don`t mean this to be a ``surrender`` or even ``thowing in the towel.`` Admitting a mistake and then correcting it is not a defeat but a brilliant recovery. The recent news about Tata Consultancy going into a joint venture in IT in Lahore is the right path. We should do everything possible to encourage economic cooperation leading to open borders, free movement, and eventual reunification.
India already has proven and viable political institutions. The people of Pakistan are resilient, vibrant, and usually flexible. We have experienced the debacle of `71, four long regimes under dictators, several years of corrupt and bloody ``democratic`` rule, and an accepted culture of violence, sectarian killings, intolerance, and suppression of human rights. Several things are clear:
1. A nation founded on religious zeal will not succeed.
2. Intolerance begets more hatred and even greater intolerance.
3. Islam has been reduced a mere tool for everyone - despotic tyrants, idiotic mullahs, corrupt, greedy, and unprincipled ``secular, liberal, progressives,`` and international terrorists.
4. We need an environment of stability, economic progress, peace, and security.
5. Religion should be sacred - an individual`s right to worship or not worship as he/she pleases.
Reunification of India and Pakistan will immediately solve the Kashmir problem. It may even make communal riots a distant memory. It`s worth a try. We have attempted and failed at so many other nonsensical approaches, why not try what we would have had if we had done nothing in 1947 and just accepted and enjoyed freedom from the British?
May both countries find the peace and happiness that their citizens deserve.

You said the above in reference to Samina`s complaint.
Here is a list of constitutional rights that have been denied to her:
1. The right to bare arms - and other parts of her anatomy. There is a law in NYC banning really ugly people from exposing themselves.
2. Although not in the constitution but in the declaration of independence, Samina has not been able to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. Her old age, obsession with fighting, and constant misandry have made her bitter, enslaved, and unhappy. She is not able to pursue anyone due to her obesity.
3. The right to a lawyer - Samina has been trying to catch a lawyer, doctor, or engineer for sometime - settling instead of a drunken Irishman
There are more, but I gotta go.

Thank you for a no-nonsense and to the point timely article. I couldn`t have said it better.
Now the emphasis should be on:
1. Not just condemning violence, but actually stopping and preventing it.
2. Not just praising human rights, but actually practicing it - starting with Chowk itself.
3. Not just praying for the success of Moose Limbs, but praying for EVERYONE, including so-called Kaffirs.

You have stated what should be so obvious to most Moose Limbs. Our sense of justice, our feelings of compassion, and our outrage are all so conditional. Islam and Moose Limbs need to become much more universal and truly humane and human.

Godot, Haroon, ana, Manto,
Of course, we all have Pakistan and Pakistanis` interest when we offer suggestions for improvement. I love the land of Pakistan and the people who inhabit that domain. That is why I am participating in this discussion. Admitting a mistake is not treason. Acting in our own self-interest is called wisdom. Very rapidly, both India`s and Pakistan`s self-interests are aligning. Kashmir itself is very minor in the greater scheme of things. Pakistan needs political stability, democracy, lower military budget, secularism, moderation, tolerance, and respect for individual rights. India needs secure borders, communcal harmony, access to markets right next door, lower defense expediture, access to convenient and reliable energy sources, and the benefits that come from economies of scale.
The two countries are in a unique position to help solve each other`s problems. But to be successful, they need to think ahead. To look beyond the myopia of religious extremism or the whinings of privileged classes such as the RSS hateful hooligans, the foaming fatwa fanciers, and the marathoning pseudo-liberals. Let`s come to our senses and create the economically powerful Subcontinent that the West and China do not want to see. We owe it to both peoples.

It is unfair to have otherwise intelligent and decent people such as Manto and Haroon having to defend the absurdity of the rationale for Pakistan. I think that Jinnah, the brilliant lawyer, was check-mated by Louis Mountbatten and Nehru into accepting his ``moth-eaten`` Pakistan as a take it or leave it dilemma. Any decision that is so far-reaching and made so hastily is bound to be erroneous. The plight of a divided India, lingering tyranny in Pakistan, the death of millions, and uprooting of tens of millions of innocent people, status of minorities in India, secession of East Pakistan, struggle between the Mullahs and pseudo-liberals in Pakistan, the nagging issue of Kashmir, and the whole water-sharing problem in Punjab all stem from that unfortunately rash decision made by impatient leaders. This stupidity was not even submitted for ratification by the peoples involved. The sad thing is that we build monuments to these imbeciles and sings songs of praise for them. Salim

Strongbooze, I share your concern. It is always risky to return to the fork where the wrong decision was made. However, it is the last reference point and you correctly stated the possibility of a large Muslim population becoming restive and more demanding. However, there is nothing like experience. After the debacle of partition, Muslims will think twice before resorting to establish their theocracy. In fact, nothing creates fireproofing better than having been burned once.
The prospect of nuclear war far outweighs the risk of reunification.

#112, Dost Sahib, {``The best solution for these countries is really to return to something closer to Jinnah`s preferred vision, which would be a slow and steady movement towards a European model via the Asean route``}
Anything is better than the upcoming civil war between the Mullahs and the pseudo-liberals. Steady movement towards a European model can only be achieved when Pakis start thinking like today`s Europeans, but the Brit-Pakis don`t give us much hope of that happy outcome.
