Nor does it seem to matter that the Gujarat High Court ordered these demolitions and that it repeated its orders that all encroachments should be removed even after the riots.

Thank you for exposing the myth of Muslim egalitarianism. It never existed, doesn`t exist today, and fat chance that it ever will. The best that Muslims can hope to attain is the level of equality at least practiced in the west. That in itself would be a great accomplishment.

Also, can you tell us why muslims go on a jehad pretty much everywhere? So, Jehad (fighting against non-muslims) is Islamic, is it?

Also, if casteism is a Hindu evil, how come Hindus in Bali don`t practise it?

I guess its ok to include these muslims in the fold of reservation if they revert to Arya Samaj.
Problem solved.

There has been a lot of heartburn over the fact that the reservations meant for the many are usurped by just a few, leading to the so-called ``creamy layer``. The suggestion has been made that future reservations should be on the basis of economic conditions.

Actually, there is a simpler method by which we can prevent the children of quota beneficiaries enjoy quotas in the future.

All persons applying for professional education and government jobs should be sterilized. The men should be castrated and the women should have their ovaries and uterii removed. That would ensure that they do not create this ``creamy layer``.

The day every engineering, management and medical college in India has a clinic attached to it for these purposes is the day people will start competing on merit.

It would also put the fear of God into people like Asli-Masanamuthu who are not beneath using false caste certificates to cheat the dalits of their seats.

that`s an interesting angle.... and a good idea... never seen it elsewhere...

Wherever affirmative action is taken, it is to correct historical systemic discrimination faced by certain group. On that criterion, ``dalit`` Muslims are no different from other dalits and should enjoy similar protection. However, there is already a high proportion of reserved quotas in Indian and any additional groups should be accomodated within the same quota and not increase the overall number of jobs outside the strict merit principle

The author has suggested two innovations to make affirmative program more effective. One is to add an economic criterion; while this is desirable, it will cause insurmountable problems in implementation. The other is to avoid the creation of a creamy layer; this is sensible and any preferential treatment should not be available to those whose parents or grandparents had used this privilege. If possible, this modification should apply to all those enjoying the fruits of preferred treatment.

And while I am still in favour of affirmative action for disadvantaged group, I think, that after sixty years, it is time to for a rigorous examination of the overall effect of reservations on dalits instead of relying on anecdotal evidence one way or the other. If it has helped only a creamy layer while leaving the overall dalit population where it was vis-a-vis the upper castes, maybe the society should explore other means of achieving the same objectives.
