RFC bismillah.. you are right..

and kaura is right except i blame him and me MORE than of nehru and gandhi .. they are dead and cant do anything. we can and are doing nothing. india should push to put at least 4 divisions of armed troops in afganistan to ensure safety of its engineers. its stupid to depend on western troops.

The US made a huge mistake after 9/11. It should have simply used a few Hydrogen bombs to obliterate Afghanistan and NWFP in Pakistan from the map of the world. All the Afghans, Pushtuns, Taliban, Al-Quaeda, Osama, basically all the bull$hit of the world would have been destroyed in 1 shot. These subhuman vermin are not fit for the civilized world and have made life unlivable for the rest of humanit. Complete anihilation is the only answer to them.

I am afraid you may have got the wrong end of the stick. State terrorism is a misnomer, but for that, you will have to wait for my next essay :). But this essay is for what a country can do if a citizen gets taken hostage. Not sure of the connection.

#2 by sheelajaywant

It is not easy for a state to go outside its boundaries and take ``revenge``, generally doesn’t work.

#3 by bjkumar

There is much in what you say, the value of a citizen is rather low in our countries but despite the israeli penchant for striking back in revenge, it has not stopped counter revenge attacks, I am afraid. What did work was the policy of targetted assasination, but not to that much extent either.

LOL :-)

It looks like I have touched some raw nerves prompting this long galss house post!!!

I only suggested we should follow universal principles, and thus condemn Paki state sponsored terrorism in Balochistan. So it looks like we are in agreement since you also seem to condemn this.

Re: # 4
bharath jee,
late Wali Khan used to say those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. India has had and continues to have its fair share of separatist movements for example, Mizoram, Assam liberation, Kashmir, Khalistan (Sikh)Tamil, Dravidian and Bengal. Have u forgotten the ruthless suppression of Sikh demand for a separate homeland? States have always managed to get away with illegal acts of violence simply because they are the makers of law. It is also true that for a viable state where security of its citizens needs to be protected there the state can be the only entity which has the right to use extreme violence as in the case of death penalties. Having said that, states are also guilty of trampling basic human rights and in some cases responsible for mass destruction, murder, rape and pillage.

Instead of focusing simply on individual terrorists or terrorist organization there is a urgent need to highlight state sponsored atrocities which are the main reason for the current state of affairs.

Lastly, suicide bombings did not originate in the muslim world, one of its forst exponents belonged to your homeland, the same ``terrorist`` who murdered Gandhi then Rajiv Gandhi. Was it not the Tamil liberation front which is responsible for numerous suicide bombings in Sri Lanka?

Universal principles of liberty, equality and fairness should be refelected in all spheres of life and dialogue.

rtf786 is right. Anybody who sympathizes with hijacker-terrorists is not a human being, let alone part of the civilized world.

There is only one way to deal with terrorism - to impose exemplary, unforgettable punishment on those who have even the remotest sympathy for them.

Will we let a snake live among us, just because it smiles at us?

Sure ...............sure..........very familiar...........

We should have universal principles and....................freedom fighters should be respected and supported whereever....whenver they fight against subjugation, state sponsored terrorism:

Gas pipeline blast kills young girl; two policemen slain in Balochistan QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) A bomb blew up a gas pipeline Wednesday in Balochistan province, killing a 7-year-old girl, while gunmen killed two policemen elsewhere in the same region. Mah Noor was going to school with her mother in the town of Sui when a gas pipeline that runs through the town exploded killing the girl, and wounding her mother and another passer-by, a government official said. Also Wednesday, gunmen stormed a police post in Kot Nasrullah, a village about 300 kilometres southeast of Quetta, killing two policemen before fleeing, said the area police chief.(First Posted @ 10:30 PST Updated @ 11:55 PST)

Beads,

Terrorists - like business people, put in efforts and resources where they perceive that chances of return are the highest! Therefore, Indians (who are perceived as weak-kneed) will get hijacked daily - and Israelis (tough as nails) seldom!

Countries - like business people, put a premium on what they have in limited supply and discount what is in plenty. That`s why an Indian life will never be valued by India like an American life is valued by the US.

Surya asked for trouble. He went away from a `safe` (well, relatively) area without informing the security people. He broke the protocol and paid for it as expected. What was silly was the way the government decided to go overboard with the lakhs as compensation and a job for the wife (two of them, the press tells us). I agree with you. India won`t be respected unless it twists the arms off those who would dare touch any Indian. Why do we say politicians `represent` us? They don`t.

Dear Dasgupta sahib,
no sane person sympathizes with hijackers-terrorists, nor does the civilized world if there is one left expected to justify state sponsored terrorism-illegal occupation-subjugation-genocide.

What the Russians have done in Chechnya is nothing new nor can it be condoned by humanity, it is the worst kind of human tragedy which deserves unconditional condemnation, any rationalization of their actions smells of racial prejuidices same experienced during the slaughter of jews by nazis in ww2.

Iraq is another example of state sponsored terrorism, Bush administration policy of regime change, right of preemption is nothing but state terrorism. Who is to protect the weaker, smaller states against the powerful armadas of Russia/USA?

Same applies to Indian hegemonic policies in Kashmir by denying ppl their basic right of self-determination.

Israeli illegal creation and occupation of Palestinian lands followed by their ruthless suppression of any form of resistence is another classic example of state terrorism.

Why not resolve these differences in a humane, civil and fair manner which removes if not but most of humanity differences? That should eliminate any reason cited by any terrorist for their illegal actions. More importantly, why not condemn the real oppressors in the garb of state sanctioned authority?
