It was very nice to read about the city where i grew up....you are right abu dhabi corniche was my favorite spot in the city too and i have seen the old corniche too when i was a kid....and with no water break in sight strong waves used to hit the shore. Its a rich city build by poor and thats the way life is .....the people who build a place do not live in it....i still remember tens of Pakistani pathan labrors sitting and waiting for their buses near the signals and they were always there when we used togo to school early morning.
Regading food i think apart from international food chains its the labanese shawrma which is everybody`s favorite. I still miss labanese food....but the local people of abu dhabi are very nice and humble. In 1980s we hardly saw the locals ....it was only the expats who lived in the city and locals preferred to live in their big open houses a little outside the city centre. Now things have changed a lot.

Re: # 6

Thank you very much Mr.Ecoboom ,it honor to be noted and responded person who has studied lot. I think all are reasonable speculations or remarks.
I am a decent man. As you know money and sex is haram and not good if you can not handle. I always find money(power) and sex controlling many factors.
I have come to conclusion for above phenonenon sex and money is responsible. If you have lots of money you dont care about it same with sex but without it it really not fun. I will not go in details as I am decent and old man. And some time its best to be left unsaid. Also readers can use brain to find themselves and always live in west or north of city if you can manage. But if you can not afford it not end of life.

What you think about big G. Will it eclips Dubai and Bombay port?

Also I wonder to undermine big G Indians and Iranians and afghans are united and developing Infrastructure frm Central asia to Chahbahar , what is you infirmed opinion.
Also what you think of rail feom china south to big G.
Thanks for explanation and your view about this are appreciated and respected. Let us hope others can write why they feel.

always wonder why most cities in most have most poor and bad parts in south and east. Can some body tell. ( I have some feeling but town planner type people can write).

very astute observation indeed.

I am no townplanner or anything remotely connected but.. here are some reasons I know of:

1) Westerlies: The trade winds which blew the smoke from chimneys from west-to-east. Major fuel coal; hence all red buildings black in downtown east-end everywhere...especially in europe & americas.

2) Mercantile trade: The coasts were mostly to the south or east of the major civilisations. Any development to west & north was hence newer & better.

4) Before mercantile trade the non-coastal cities were on highest ground near the rivers.. so this was not the case then.

4) The ``north`` of europe was in dark-ages & acquired learning and became civilised only a couple of a hundred years ago. Their development is recent compared to the then established civilisations namely: muslim, Indian, Chinese, African, Egyptian, greek, roman, Mexican or the Incas.

Re: # 4
Generally its not good to write long as then sense looses its better to make new response so one does not forget what one is writing about. I had put on my table different marks for different points but then one I confuse what mark was for what point.

We have author real person is well to do person working as banker in newyork city. I do not give too much to articles to mental doctors or lawyers or engineers or doctors as they are not real rich people. Many times they have never seen $10000 bill but talk and advice what to do with millions. Also poets and just social thing political writing is useless it is like school projects. They are mostly poor and poverty worshippers and some drink alcohol and write funny about great religion and blasphemy filled in each sentence and corroupt on earth. If you want to improve in desi lands of india, and pk then we need good articles about, stocks , bond, interestrate, badala, kse, gold silver, crude oil and insurance etc. etc. This garbage of gandhi and jinnah is is not going to do.
So I feel indian stock market is collapsing and they chating poor indians are they are not allowed buy stocks in usa.
Indianmarket is totally manupulated by indian govt so people have no chance to buy international stocks.
In Dubai you can buy anything. That is why dubai port is doing better.
Here are cheating
Tata motors p/e=18.20, toyoto=13.89 daimeler=13.57
Comment : Tatas are stealing money if given chance hindu baniyas will toyoto motors and dymler.
VSNL pe=162.27, telephone and IT co, AT andT pe=18.37 verizon tel=12.95, again forcing indians to by VSNL so costly ten times PE than international companies
Reddy`s lab PE=62.67, while pfizer=14.68,abot lab=19.97, agin 4 times pe than real drug companies ( reddy`s are cheat company, they copy molecule and produce same by changing process and steal propertoes)
HDB ank pe=30.93 while city bank pe=10.12, bank of america PE=12.07 so indian bank is 3 times money from people for same thing as they have no real money like dollars

so if there is real freedom they can buy cheaper real companies then useless high P/e indian companies.
All above are trading in usa. My feeling other big companies how are well managed like reliance, sunderam fastners, babaj, tatas , steel , ranbuxy, bharat forge must be exploiting
people. Wonder indian defence companies are publically traded ?
Any way I am happy a banker real person dealing with money wrote tired of poor psyco docs, lawyes and journilaist, and drunkard comic writers we need real meat type , moey KSE type subjects. Thanks mr. Banker

First it is great article and very informational and writer has doene good job.
My feeling is emerging cities as emerging cities like developing country like india ( never developing)
I always wonder why most cities in most have most poor and bad parts in south and east. Can some body tell. ( I have some feeling but town planner type people can write).
I have heard thre is no much water resources so they get water from see and convert in sweet water so that water is good testing or with minerals wonder.

I think Dubai city is very much afraid of BIG G port as it can do better than them and few years BIG G will dwarf the dubai. So they want contract to run port so they can damage port facility or dicourage its use so Dubai survive. Bombay city is in decline even Mr R. Gandhi said and with development of G then its going look quite rediculus. As dubai is show project for china port builders so they have used best material as a brotherly country. The cranesw at Big G dwarf Bombay port. Soon dredging will be starting and depth will be so deep that VLCCs, Suezmax, Afromax, all types of ships can come go asthey want due to deep channel. both Cina and Ameriac wants to have G but americans are back stabber so china will great prize ans americans are going to be sad. Then it will become great port and chinese raiway will be huge amounts of good big G be loaded at Bog G to take stuff all good real foren white countries( I do not consider turkey, poland, Mongol chhap central asians and east europeans as real foreign countries) and dump stuff in Europe and america and pick nice dollar and pounds and bring all foren bills to big G and load on railway on way to chinas capital. Also all oil from central asia will be flowing to pakistan and with and will be processed in different things Poor indians will be begging to have stuff from pipeline to survive. It will great processing center in world as big refneries taking transported oil and processing and distrubuting to india.
Dubai is fine but now in decline due to big G, good day

Asking someone to describe the food of the UAE would be akin to asking someone to describe ``the food`` of Manhattan. There is no such thing.

The UAE is so cosmopolitan that every conceivable cuisine is on offer.

dear author, any standard town description must include something about the local (or imported) food, while the hooka is mentioned several times, food is amiss except for chai :(

Nice write up (but tell us more about the people as well). That part of the world is getting some attention lately. The UAE has somehow managed to set itself apart from other Sheikhdoms in the area. I think they are on the right track, and hopefully will become the country that they deserve. The move to ban child camel Jockeys was a good one, and hopefully other nuisances like all wealth in the hands of a few individuals.

The description of Souqs sound pretty neat. I love the Souqs.
