I agree, it will turn out to be prophetic, like that of bhutto, pakistan will have the bomb, but will eat grass. Would have been literally prophetic, if it were not for the US money.

jayp:
No it is NOT prophetic..it is quasi-futuristic.
Prediction or foretelling that turns out to be true is called prophetic.
It is always in hindsight.

You are right. This is NOT satire even by a stretch of imagination.
It is the CHOWK staff who have put it under that category.
Saima Shah of CHOWK is extremely maadren & maadrate. She never ventured near a madressa or urdu medium. Hence she is enlighturned. No wonder her mastery over the english language is such that Lord Macaulay, if around today, would have been immensely pleased
to see such a level of erudite editorship.
P.S: Please do NOT laugh off the above as a biting & scathing satire.

jayp, I think you need to re-read the piece...
Nowhere does it claim that Pakistan did not have an identity or that it used Islam as a unifying force. Your arguments are valid but i don't think the creation of Pakistan and the use of Islam by its founder are an issue any longer. Its 60 years old now!
The best thing we can do is to learn from the past, understand the present and work for a better future. The problems are clear, the solutions are clearer!
The article is meant to be sarcastic, not pessimistic or anti-pakistani by any means!

Thanks Faris, for supporting my view.
Pakistan is not a viable country, simply because it has no binding and unifying force. Having denied the pre islamic history, it had to cling to islam, and the classical islamic nation is Saudi with the mecca being there. hence pakistan had to create its own brand of islam, the taliban, which the world is no more ready to tolerate.
The country could have made some economic progress, as in the case of india and created an identity, but pakistan missed it completely.
The bomb is the final killer of pakistan, a talibanic bomb the world is not going to allow.
You are correct, pakistan will be a foot note, but youyr foot note is too long for pakistan and its its contribution to mankind.
