This was a wonderful film!

It has mature content which would rate a PG amongst

mainstream American viewers but Desis may need to

think twice about taking their children to watch it.

Arjun, I saw it was available on ebay UK to buy. Movies are released on different schedules in different countries, but make the effort, I'll buy it off you if you don't like it, how's that? I have only watched bits of the film, but you would like the book as well.

Assalam u alaikum wa rehmatullah wa barakatu
wa jannat ul hallal u
wa dozakh ul haram u
Amma baad, baccha pehlay,

Verily, let it be known that some miscreants have angered the mullah today.

Mashallah JabrDa sharif, ameer-ul-momineen, Zia-ul-Haque had put the mullahs in power, and ensured proper checks and balances were in place so that women didn't misuse the privilege of being alive that they were so generously accorded. I could go on and on, and illuminate the face of our beloved leader so that we get distracted not by the racoon eyes, but to the paanch waqt ki namaz he worshiped.

People, today is an important day in history. It is today that I offer to you a simple statement "it is better to convert".

Let this be the mantra everywhere.

You will not see a billion kaffirs in india, you will not see it as hindustan. Indeed you will see it as almost-muslimistan.

When the kuffar wage war against you, be gentle, do not cause any harm...for a whole convert is better than a lifeless potential one.

Let there not be any sui-cide dhamakas. For you are only reducing the number of eventual momins.

Let you not mistreat the hinuds, do not commit any violence on them even if they commit violence on to you....for these are all potential momins.

Remember, you get an extra hoor for every convert. And if your convert converts someone, you get to share that hoor. So more hoors for everyone. It's like multi-level marketing really. Wallah it is beautiful.

So subscribe to this theory "it is better to convert". So be kind, be gentle, and do not bruise that which will bear fruit for you tomorrow.

So it is said, and so ye shall comply.

Amma baad baccha pehlay.

I remain,

your humble master,

Your mullah,

Maulana Toofani

I am commenting on the review only. Not on the movie or the book. It is a nicely written review and serves the purposes of bringing to the knowledge of others the happenings on this culture front.
A review can be heavy or light on assessing the quality or discussing the ideas of a work. It depends on the reviewers’ purpose of writing the review. This one of course chose the later course.

Re: # 4
Tolk....

Taslima Nasreen have talked about the problem of BD faced under islamic radicals and problem faced by women...She is more of feminist...those girls see their mother getting tortured by their own family members, develop some complex...at least Taslima Nasrin case is similar to that....

I only ever got around to watch the film recently .... so can't compare with the book

It does use stereotypes .... but stereotypes that ARE THERE already; doesn't make them up ex nihilo! .... unfortunately

I enjoyed it .... especially the part where the old man goes to the "meeting of radicals" and talks about "the defence of Islam"! not a bad character at all ..... just a victim of circumstances in my opinion ..... like we all are I suppose; products of our collective life experiences

Certain thing, of course, could have been presented better ... but isn't that the case with virtually everything in life?

AOA-Jannat Hallalu, Dozakh haramu,

Although I have neither read the book nor watched the movie, although my NAMAQOOL chaila probably has done both, I already dislike the book and movie.

Laal bricks have bad memories for us mullahs. And an entire movie about a lane of bricks is certainly biased against mullahs and darDhees. Why do I smell a burning bra when I think of brick lane?

Are you trying to tell us what this movie is about?
If yes - then a good job~!

If you are trying to make people emotional - then who cares.

Immigrants like this are dime a dozen. They make a choice and are in West. this problem is more pronounced in cultures where woman live in Purdah.

Good write up Ras though I wasn't particularly impressed either with the book (it played to all the hackneyed stereotypes of Muslims) or with the film although I must say the main actress acted very well and visually the film looked gorgeous.

As usual the book was much better than the film and the book itself wasn't THAT good. I'd give the movie a 3/5.
Worth watching definitely...but not wonderful at all.
