A blessing Metro has been when i recall the old days in suburbia, if one had to go to DC one had to either drive and look for almost non-existent parking or leave at 5 AM to catch a commuter bus for a 10 AM appointment and then hang out in DC all day to catch the returning commuter bus before Metro appeared on the horizon in 1976 with a brief service only within DC.
But, safety is important, very important and the operators should be vigillant enough to over ride such instances by not becoming totally on the sensory.
Its too bad that we all learn to watch out only after stumbling and falling, but this was definitely a catastrophic fall that took so many lives and inflicted disablities for many more, while removing the sense of confidence that so many riders have come to place in the Metro system over the last 33 years, it will take a long time for people to confide in the safety of Metro system again.

Thanks for reading this piece.
I sympathize with Biharis, but I live in America and in this case, because of my own daily commute routine, I tend to identify closely with many of the victims of this accident.
