Kamal,

Of course! I remember reading this piece a while back (tumhein yaad ho ke na yaad ho)! I wonder why you didn`t send it in sooner. It resonates with your own lifestyle. Methinks you are still in the throes of autobiography.

And by the way, everyone, treat this not as fiction.

Welcome to chowk, Kamal. I think it`s time to put `Afghanistan` the poem online, too.

Love,

M

ylh: Since no one has responded, I`ll answer. Sorry Kamal, but you understand that I have a captive audience :)

To get into Lincoln`s Inn is not very difficult. Essentially, it`s a dining club attached to the legal profession. Membership costs £88 for life, and you need two reccomendations of character (one from a teacher, one from someone in the legal profession). No legal background is required.

However, to be called to the Bar, which is the real game, you need to apply to Bar school, which is tricky. Bar school and the Inns of Court are not connected in anyway - so get rid of the hype you`ve heard about ``getting into Lincoln`s``. That`s simple, getting into Bar school is harder.

In order to enroll in Bar school, you need to have an LL.B (minimum 2:1, equivilant to a B). If you don`t have a legal degree, then you need to enrol and pass from a ``conversion course`` - essentially a three year legal degree rolled into a one year diploma.

For more answers to your questions about Lincoln`s, go to www.lincolnsinn.org.uk

And remember, Lincoln`s is only one of four Inns. The rest are Gray`s, Middle Temple and Inner Temple. Each Inn has its own character, history and tradition - not to mention food. Get on the web and search these as well. You may decide to go elsewhere.

Rafay

Interesting work Kamal. Looking forward to seeing more of your work on Chowk. Selling Bananas in an Orange country (or is it the other way around ?) - was an interesting book as well. Have u published any others ?.

Best regards,

Mansoor
