Good to know you are from Hyderabad.
Some of my near relatives live there. And when I visit, I am impressed by the hospitality of people there. But it has more village look than Karachi.
In fact Hyderabad has probably more mix of Sindhi, Punjabi and Mohajir than Karachi. I always enjoy the visit.
Also my friends from Hyderabad were also a mix in Karachi.
On your question why a predominant people would sarcasm of themselves. It needs courage and integrity to laugh on oneself.

well the jokes of every city relate to its people, culture and history.ofcourse why would anybody make a joke of punjabis in a city comprsisng only of punjabis,or say why would any one target pathans in bannu when he knows all the people there are pathans. my point was that every city dwellers love their cities. As i love my city of Hyderabad,Sindh where all the communities sindhis, urdu speaking, punjabis live peacefully. and here i have met punjabis who criticize punjab and punjabi students from hyderabad studying in lahore long for their city during their studies. we love our city and when all the friends from different communities sit together we laugh at each other in a light way and enjoy the cultural mix. so the love of ones city is present naturally with every one.

More on cosmopolitan.
When Umar Sharif utters that he has not seen seen ``Pet Bhara Bihari, Memon Pahalwan, Pathan Sainsdan and Punjabi Insaan`` everybody Pathan, Memon, Bihari and Punjabi laugh at sarcasm.
In the cities you mentioned, they will make him an Ibrat for saying this.
There is a difference man. Kill your ego before appreciating Karachi.

Why getting angry.
As ``Lahore Lahore Hai``.
The same way Karachi Karachi Hai.
If you have any relative in Karachi, you can ask them.
Probably it is a nostalgia, but hospitality of Karachi for Mohajirs, Punjabis, Pathans, Bengalis everyone.
Lack of bias in personal relationship. Cosmopolitan. And above all everybody feeling that it is his/her city and is not a guest. Some to point of thinking Karachi as their colony. Karachi embraces them and even tolerates Gande Ande, colonizers.
I don`t think the cities you mentioned will even tolerate a Gaali to their own people. Moreso thinking those cities as colony.
The best thing about Karachi is that a Punjabi curses Punjab.
Ciao.

what a question?
what made u think that only karachiites would love the city of their childhood?
what so special about karachi or karachiites that only they would love their city and others would be devoid of any affection for their own cities.
It is my challenge that ask any person be that person fron Chennai or Chakwal he would love his or her city. there are numerous websites of cities from Trivanderam to Hyderabad, sindh where the love of their citizend will be shown.
so please dont think that its only karachiites who love their cities and others just watch!

Gosh, I must look like a perfect fool! The Chowk biraadari is so clued in to everything that goes on here...I knew I was absent-minded, but to this extent? Hmm, let me see what I was doing in Jan...was I not fighting some battle of my own Board? Anyway, worse things have happened with me: For example, I did not know when my first article was submitted here, with that notoriously flattering Intro, without my permission. I discovered it six months later when I posted something and was told that since I am an old hand no new Intro was required! I missed out on a good fight at that time...
But if Shandana is reading this, it does not take away one bit from what I have said in my post here.Imagine for the first time having no one to contradict me :)

So much more can be written about Karachi.
Some even in duplicate or triplicate. You see
Karachi was once a city of lights and dreams.
The nightmare of today, the reality is that
many new dreams need to be injected.
Karachi will once agin rise from the ashes of
violence. Sadly many of the people who made
it very livable had to seek refuge overseas.
Will they ever return?
