I trust that the writer is an anti-Musharraf from Pakistan; some letters suggesting to the contrary, notwithstanding.
He seems to have forgotten one additional election, i.e., Pakistan vs. Musharraf
Pakistan lost.

Fawad,
That right bacha, dissassociate and excise our artistic and cultural heritages...lets also deny that there are Buddhist statues and sculptures from Pakistan as well-lets tell those statues to go back to Nepal!(Homer Simpson mutter) Rotten statues, what have they ever done for us?

Seema seems to be quite a ``Buddhi Ghori Lal Lagham``Following excerpts you missed to quote from the NYT,she is 49 when most of us would be glad to be alive & walking given life expectancy in 3rd world.
Also at 49 when a girl is un married she is bad bad omen in India particularly Bengali .She wouldnt be incvited for girls marriage or her shadow to fall on another virgin girl or so does the tradition, custom of Bengali goes .
``....Quick, darting, impatient, Ms. Kermani, 49, fills her pauses with as much energy as her gestures, and she is as vivid and forceful offstage as on, her words as sharp and expressive as her....``
What is the definition of Dance ? I think DANCE itself is not taboo in Pakistan ,Bhangra Dandiya is performed readily but those do not cross the line of exhbitionism as in rapid rapturous dance of euphoric lost conscious twirl of some .

re: Dance and weep: in Pak i mean.
While classical dance thrives in India today, it is considered unislamic and hence not allowed in Pakistan. Sheema Kirmani`s epic struggle with keeping classical dance alive in Pak has been appreciated at last by the Americans. Read this article from NYT. Url:
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/05/11/international/11FPRO.html.
Ms Kirmani says:
``Muslim men have got this hang-up about dancing women,`` she said after her performance. ``They`re afraid that once they see a woman they can`t control themselves, that either she`ll seduce them or they`ll rape her.``
If true, it reveals a kind of mindset in Pakistan among muslim men. Ms Kirmani goes on to say:
``I don`t believe there is any other country where dance has got this kind of stigma to it,`` she said. ``Only special private performances like tonight are allowed, and even for this they had to get special permission.``
While this is happening in Pak, all classical dance forms thrive in India. Learning to dance is not a taboo in India. My sister learnt Bharata Natyam for 5 years. Many famous dancers go into movies or make a good living by going abroad to teach or perform. Art and culture is one area where India strides over Pak like a colossus.

``On second thoughts, threesomes may not be a bad idea. If Gandhi, Nehru, and Edwina could do it, why not us, eh?``
I am all for threesomes, as long as I am the only guy involved. :)
