This is going to be the batting world cup. Agreed the Windies dont have the best bowling attack, but it is the batting that is going to win matches in this World Cup. Windies and Indians have the two best batting sides for this tournament, but the Indians haven`t traditionally done well in S.Africa and are in a tough group, so I am really backing the Windies this time around.

Ras,

Just watched Pakistan bowl against Australia. Talent was there. Too bad it was Australian. You are right again. 1992 is remote.

There is a LOT of talent out there again in this World Cup.

If Pakistan can only get past Australia tonight ???????

1992 is always a remote possibility.

Yucky!!! what a girlie colour for this article! (Apologies to girls)
Wasn`t it just a humdinger!! The start of the WC couldn`t have been scripted better by a scriptwriter!
An aside: On Ten Sports, Darren Gough opined that both teh WI and SA were going to make it to the Semis. Sidhu basically laughed at him in disbelief. I personally feel that they are champion material, though I wouldn`e place any bets on ANYONE. This is what makes this bloody game so awafully exciting!

re #3 Teunkens

West Indies` achilles heel is their bowling. They have to squeeze out 20 overs from part time slow bowlers. Batsmen like Astle, Aravinda, Jayasuriya, Attapattu, Ganguly, SRT, Gilchrist, Ponting, Inzi etc. will cream these guys. In the SA game too Hooper+Gayle gave away 123 runs. Windies can win only if their batsmen are able to regularly score 40-50 runs more than needed to account for bowling defeciencies.

i am truly in awe of this man`s abilities. he can spend all the time he wants in the sun without getting skin cancer, he gets to date caucasian women (not the kind who hang around desi men, imran and hasnat khan excepted) and he has the ability to cover drive a good lenghth ball delivered at 90 mph (an act that provides the same amount of pleasure as any act described in kama sutra). i am thinking of converting to hinduism because in my next life i want to be reincarnated as brian lara.

Hi Teunkens

I hope you are right ... nothing will please me more than seeing WI lift the cup. The Windians were the classiest world champions and won through sheer talent. The current Aussies are too mechanical for my taste.

#1 ``.....even though WI has little or no chance of winning this cup.``

Don`t you think you might be saying a little too soon. Remember Gayle and Hinds the fiery opening pair didnt even get started in this match. And then even God is Caribbean.

Of a personsal disposition I feel Lara is the best batsman ever produced by this game. He has so many different shots in his bag that it is unbelievable. One place where I would not credit him though is discipiline. I think the award goes to Tendulkar. Had Lara been as dedicated and motivated as he seemed yesterday his statistics would have presented a completely different story altogether and would have been difficult to pass by anyone for a long long time to come.

One other player which could have done better is our very own chawal and aloo and sleep lover Inzi. That guy has wasted his potential completely. There is hardly any trace of professionalism in the conduct of that gentleman.

It is hard to predict who is going to win the world cup but also watch out for NZ!!!!!!

Thanks J2 [Jarrar Jaffari].

Mighty he is. The great Tendy needs to learn a lesson or two from Lara. Todays win put into perspective how tremendous a batsmen Lara is. This world-cup is certainly off to a great start.

I predict Lara will score heavily - even though WI has little or no chance of winning this cup.

If Pakistan and India humble the Aussies and Sri Lanka beats South Africa ...
