I understand the significance of an apostrophe on a shop/boutique board.

As far as I know, the apostrophe has three uses:
1) to form possessives of nouns
2) to show the omission of letters
3) to indicate certain plurals of lowercase letters.

Hence, the significance of its use in the sentences I`ve quoted is beyond my comprehension.
I guess its the language editor in me.

How did you come up with this topic? I must say a very good & sensitive observation.

The word `Kurti` has been in Punjabi language since I was born. It always meant a light casual summer girl/woman shirt. It sounds light & feminine.

But Jagit`s song has made it immortal. The song brings out the most delicate, sensuous and poetic expression to that subtle female urge to be mildly suggestive. And it is all wrapped up in the song in the best of Punjabi ethos & aroma.

The song also talks about the `Jutee Khal dee murara nae jhaldee` - the light shoe can not withstand the twists & turns of the Punjabi mutiar.

All in all - a really good song - lyrics, voice, expression. It is subtlity at its best.

I think its already in. I`ve seen Kurta/Kurti alikes at Macy`s: the kind Enrique Iglesias wears.

But after reading this I am confused. Is that a Kurti, or a Kurta?

I always thought of Kurti being a `mom-pops-word` for a short Kurta.
