Its got the kind of beauty, simplicity and originality that one encounters only rarely. Cheers.
And I am going to transliterate it into English/urdu poetry. Beware.

I really like the story. A little slow, but I think that the story flows very well and comes to a very appropriate ending. I would love to read more from this author whom I dont know at all.

Very nice.Agree with Mrinal.A lot of innocence.
Could have done with some editing, though.

``Some wishes are better kept locked away. Away from getting hurt or destroyed ...``
beautiful line. Well written, simple but profound.

Its like flodding of memories when staring at clouds was a fascination as one used to magnetize to scenario under Open Sky of constant changing objects just a tinkle after imagination stimulis...
And when a lamp was to grant everything wished for..And when ordinary ones didn`t work there was a lust for bronze ones to equate towards Aladdin Times for material compatibility...
All these sweet memories of old home where there was a gruesome Mud statue with hole in mouth and stomach through an internal opening, may be an ash tray but it was a magic when match stick burnt in stomach side could make the smoke come out from mouth hole...Ghastly annoying piece to wedge with then.
The Genie is gone but not the madness, the stars are out and we can hope for the blue sky!

Hi Mariam:
It was poignantly beautiful (except for the bit about the Buddha statue which I felt impeded the flow). We...you...are your own genie: when you looks for stars, when you rub the lamp hard, when you slip the graduation ring on your finger, when you make the wishes and when you connect the dots. Others can give us dots; we have to find/make the connections.

well!somtimes it happens when our desires do not come to an end or our dreams do not come to an end.But it doesnt mean that we should leave making desire or dreaming it means that we should make ourself strong as much as we can.

it`s a sad story, mariam...nicely written..it becomes a little boring in the middle. I think you`ve stretched it a bit and it becomes forced in the middle, almost like you`re trying to make it longer in length. Anyway, overall good job.
