Re: # 1 Waseem Raja was a pleasure to watch playing cricket.A clean straight crickter that any one would fall in love with his style of game. On the whole a wonderful man who inspired others.May Allah rest his soul in peace,I met him once in life long long time ago but I feel I lost a good humanbeing for which I feel sorry. My heart felt condolences to his near and dear ones, please convey to them if any reader knows them personally.

From where to start and where to end.Cricket in my country is of street by the streetmen and for the street.Lately Tableeghees have taken over and we find no decore of good cricket. This is true in all countries. Can we ensure some self discipline I wonder it will happen. Money money and money that is the aim thats all.

well Well well....

In an interesting turn of events.....

Mr Darrell Hair ...the Unpire accussed of racism...and too literel....has asked for
$500,000 for his retirement....!!

Darrell Hair has offered to resign as an elite umpire in return for a payment of $500,000, Malcolm Speed, the ICC chief executive, told a press conference in a hotel near Lord`s.

Speed told reporters that he had received a copy of the letter from Hair on Tuesday which had been sent to Doug Cowie, the ICC`s umpire manager. In it he asked for ``a one-off payment to compensate for the loss of future earnings and retainer payments over the next four years, which I believe would have been the best years I have to offer ICC and world umpiring.``

``This issue has been marked by a series of unfortunate and entirely avoidable overreactions,`` Speed said. ``I have been concerned that I might be overreaction to the contents of these letters. [...] Darrell Hair was under great stress when he wrote these letters.

``I am confident, as is David Richardson (the ICC`s general manager cricket), who has been intimately involved in these matters that Darrell had no dishonest, underhand or malicious intent. He was seeking to find a solution that was in the interests of the game.

``When I received the letters I was extremely surprised by the content, as was David. I was concerned as to how I should deal with it and in part whether [...] I was required to disclose the contents [...]``

``I then consulted three lawyers. The laws were Mr David Pannick QC, who is regarded by many as the leading commercial litigation specialist in the country. He has been retained by the ICC to assist the adjudicator in these proceedings. I consulted Brian Ward, I consulted Mr David Stewart (from the ICC`s London lawyers)... The lawyers were consulted independently of each other and didn`t know I had consulted other lawyers.

``This issue has created unprecedent media and public issue... there is a huge amount of misinformation, speculation and conjecture in different parts of the world. There have been accusations of racism. It involves two separate issues. Did the Pakistan team change the ball in an illegal manner? Secondly, when Pakistan refused to take the field, did that bring the game into disrepute?. They are cricket issues. The ICC Code of Conduct provides a mechanism to dispense justice on cricket issues and that`s the process we are trying to achieve here.``

In his letter, which was released to the media, Hair said: `` I am prepared to retire/stand down/reqlinquish my position on the elite panel to take effect from August 31 2006. This payment is to be the sum of $500,000 details of which must be kept confidential by both parties. This sum to be paid directly into my account by August 31, 2006. ICC may announce the retirement in anyway they wish but I would prefer a simple ``lifestyle choice`` as this was the very reason I moved from Australia to settle in the UK three years ago.``

Percy Sonn, the ICC president, told the meeting: ``I find myself in London following a regrettable turn of events that started last Sunday. From my point of view at least things can only get better. The question is what happens next? In the light of the developments, I called a meeting of the executive board. That matter will discuss this matter in detail. In terms of what the board has the power to do, it has wide-ranging powers, however we are currently seeking legal advice.``

More to follow...

Are you THE Nadeem Aslam, author of Maps for Lost Lovers?

***

In this I fully support the Pakistani team (even though I support England) in their
action. Hair is a racist. Inzi is a poor, seedha saadha, character.

They shouldn`t play if Inzi is fined/banned.

Sad news about Wasim Raja. Inna lillaha wa inna ilayhi raji`oon.

WASIM RAJA

innalillahe wa inna ilaihe raj`oon

Wasim was one of my idols. I used to try to copy his style in both batting and bowling. He was probably the most stylish player in the history of cricket.
