There is nothing wrong with the infrastructure. There is nothing wrong with the team. Any eleven pakistani players of the fifteen that are in South Africa make the best team in the world. What is the solution??
>>The Solution!
The only solution to the problem is, that Waqar Younis should be brought back to Lahore, and made to stand in the middle of the Gaddaffi stadium, where all the people of Lahore should be invited, with free entry. Waqar younis should then be made to pull his pants down, baring his ass. He should then be spanked a hundred times, with an old ``chhittar``.
It is advisable that on the ``chhittar`` they should print ``World Cup Hamara Hai`` so that when Waqar is spanked, it gets printed on his ass.
Then he should be sent back to South Africa for the remaning matches.

to the indefatigable chowk staff:
Ole! and kudos...this time around your approach is very sensible unlike the last world cup when you inundated the page one with cricket articles causing unending delusions and nightmares ;)…
Jarrar:
good write up…
…my wishful dreams…
...the upcoming match at the ungodly hour of 0230 here in TO…between you know who…i will root for the winner as long as 100 overs are played…and the victory is by a margin of less than two runs!…it does not matter who wins…serious!
… and…wait…am still in dreamland…
...the winner goes on to win the Cup…this time white washing the opponent by a margin greater than the last Cup final …just would like to erase that bad dream…
:)

I dont know if they are doing dope tests after every match in this world cup. If they are, I would be really interested in the results for Shoaib Akhtar. He bowled like a zombie and he batted like a zombie.

Inzamam Aloo (potato) and Yusuf Yuhana`s dismissal is enough to analyse the whole story of the match.

There are a couple of things I would like to point out here.
1) I saw the replay of the ball you are talking about in the 12th over. That ball pitched a shade outside the stump line. I thought it was a good decision by the umpire.
2) I see your point about Salim E. but I think the reason why Afridi was selected was to have a leg spinner available since the English are known to not have any confidence against leg spin bowling. I think Younis Khan should have been dropped instead of Salim Elahi though, so I agree with your point about not dropping Salim E. in general.

Jarrar J:
It is a very good micro-level analysis, but I think that we need to look at the bigger picture by taking a long-term approach.
I believe that our cricket players are failing us, because of the infrastructure. There is no competitive domestic cricket in Pakistan and in the absence of opportunities for playing abroad (in foreign leagues), what we have are the minnows of international cricket. If we had competitive cricket, experienced and home grown players, managers, coaches, psychologists, physiotherapists, etc. would have all been abundantly available. What we are trying to do right now is to ask our junior school pupil to do PhD dessertations. In a way, this is our national story. We have not cared for long-term strategic planning at all and have gone for short-term, narrowly focused issue oriented problem-solving.
But you can easily discard my suggestion, because I have absolutely no experience of playing cricket. The last time I tried to play it in Lahore in 1998, Lahoris told me to go back to Afghanistan and play their national sports. I believe they meant Buzkashee, not fighting amongst themselves and against foreigners ;)
