Teenagers and children indulging insexual activity is a known fact because it is their age of experimentation.Children mimic whatever they see around them.Media should take the blame of acting irresponsibly not only in this case or the cases regarding sex,but also about drugs, violence,so called fashion shows, flesh trade etc.Electronic as well as print media and films are owned by big houses who are only concerned about making money by whatever means. Then they try to play fair by saying that they show or report whatever they observe!
Somebody said he is not against teenage sex...he should see the plight of children who are borne out of such sex.
Teenage pregnancies is one of the biggest problems of the western world today and most of these teenaged mothers are expelled from parental homes. They end up becoming drug addicts and prostitutes.most of them are not working and in UK, they are parasites living on social benefits which come from the tax payer`s money.

Freedom is good. If we are re-learning freedom by imitating modern westerners, then so be it.

Staying put unchanged is not an option for Indians. It is against our value-system, and against our genius. Only two routes lie ahead of us. If we imitate/learn intelligently, we will succeed in creating something better than anything we imitate, and worthy of our name. If we imitate blindly, then fears expressed by Amit # 24 will come true sooner than we realize.

Re:poolani#23

So you want pornography and prostitution to be legalized and turn India into Netherlands. What has happened to us as a people? How did we become so brain damaged? How did we lose all our cultural and social values? There used to be a time when Indians used to idealize ``simple living, high thinking``. Our heroes were Gandhi, Tagore, Subhash Bose etc. Today, we are so loose that all we think about is pornography. Even people who have teenaged kids want this stuff!! It is is just amazing, how low we have fallen as a society.

Why not pick up the positive aspects of western socieities - their work ethic, civic sense, cleanliness, hygiene? There is so much to learn from them. Yet the only thing that appeals to us is the moral decandency. Western civilization is now losing its steam and its natural vigor due to this decadency. Europe is on a complete downhill. America is still maintaining itself because of its stronger moral underpinnings as shown in the recent elections. If we go this route, India will once again descend into darkness and our enemies will conquer us yet again.

I do not fully agree with what Rohit Gupta, an old friend, says, especially certain passages about child pornography, but please let me allow to say this: there is absolutely nothing wrong with pornography and it is high time that pornography is legalised all over the world. Wherever pornography is legalised (so is the case with prostitution) there are less cases of sex-related crime, including rape. The Netherlands is one example, where pornographic books are sold in the open and prostitution has government sanction (thanks to which it is better equipped to help curb veneral diseases and AIDS). Another interesting example is the case of two cities in India. In Bombay, pornography is more or less openly sold on the streets and the well-run prostitution dens are run almost with the full knowledge of the government and the law-enforcing machinery. So, people here are not sexually depraved. It is not the same in Delhi. Hence you have cases like the recent MMS scandal. What do you say?

Hmmm, On one hand the actions taken by the Indian Government were a bit extreme, but it must be kept in mind that Child pornography originates from its much more evil sibling; Child Sexual Abuse. This subject is taboo in South Asian societies, and most of the offenders go free because children do not report or parents dont take action against pedophiles who may be neighbors, friends or even family members. Perhaps, the actions of the Indian Government were made in an effort to start a debate and dialogue not just about Child pornography on the Internet, but the deeper more socially destructive evil of Child Sexual Abuse. But where childhood`s boundary intersperses with adulthood, that is where much attention needs to be placed, and redefintions are in order. Adult Pornography is a healthy thing, as it is but an expression of a form of human sexuality and espouses consent. Child pornography strips away the consent of a child by firstly coerscion and secondly, by taking a right away from the child that is not his or her to give because of psychological and social immaturity.
Your Children are not your children
They are the sons and daughters of life`s longing for itsself
They come through you, but not from you
Though they are with you, they belong not to you
You may give them your love, but not your thoughts
For they have their own thoughts
You may house their bodies but not their souls
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorow, which you cannot visit, not even in
your dreams
You may strive to be like them, but not make them like you
For life goes not backwards, nor tarries with yesterday

Thanks for understanding and supporting my text, mshergill.

I also draw attention to this interesting article from Psychology Today, here:
http://cms.psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-19990901-000039.xml

``For over a century, people who engaged in bondage, beatings and humiliation for sexual pleasure were considered mentally ill. But in the 1980s, the American Psychiatric Association removed S & M as a category in its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. This decision--like the decision to remove homosexuality as a category in 1973--was a big step toward the societal acceptance of people whose sexual desires aren`t traditional, or vanilla, as it`s called in S & M circles.``

``If children at [an] early age witness sexual intercourse between adults... they inevitably regard the sexual act as a sort of ill-treatment or act of subjugation: they view it, that is, in a sadistic sense.``

--Sigmund Freud, 1905

In response to Lyalpur2Del, who asks - ``Mr. Gupta, are you out of your mind?`` :

Yes, I`m out of my mind. If you want you can get out of your mind too. There are several ways of achieving this blissful state. For instance:

Re:mshergill#15

Look, I am all for healthy, sexual relationships. But there is a time and place for everything. I do not believe that underage teenagers have the maturity and the emotional strength to deal with the complexities of sexual relations. The physical act is only one aspect to it. There is strong psychological and emotional impact from relationships and the inevitable ups and down involved in the process for e.g. break-ups, jealousies, infidelities etc. We should not underestimate it since even adults can lose their peace of mind due to such things.

As a parent, I think we need to set high standards for our kids and demand compliance as long as they live under the same roof. That involves a carrot and stick policy where good behavior is rewarded and bad behavior gets punished. It involves communication and dialogue but kids must know the consequences of their actions. We cannot blame everything on the catch-all phrase of ``globalization`` and give up. That is a cop out which I don`t agree with. Parents who pay close attention to their responsibilities of parenting typically do not face the situation as the parents of these DPS teenagers.

I also think that India must be careful not to let its economic success become a cause of moral degradation. Once that happens, the social decay that we see in the west will creep into India as well and we will eventually lose our economic vitality as well. There is no need to copy the west on everything and pick up its harmful practices.

Amit 10

Grow up.

Changes are taking place in society, whose implications and full impact, we will realize in due course. Like all changes, it will have a good aspect as well as a negative aspect. The only thing that one is sure of is that change is inevtible and often painful. The forces of globalization in a world where everyone is plugged in is too strong a force for society to resist getting influenced.

The present generation do not consider sex to be ``filthy activity `` as you have put it. Many of them consider it natural and beautiful. I believe that the kids were 17 years of age. By your logic if they had waited one more year, they would have become ``Adults` and it would not have been a ``filthy act`` anymore.

I am the father of a child who child is going to become a teenager in another 2 years. I know that there is going to be tremendous peer pressure for him to smoke, take drugs, have sex etc. My duty as a father is to make sure that whatever decisions he takes, he is able to cope with it in as mature a manner which is possible at that age, knowing the implications of his actions. Children these days do whatever they do behind your back. I realize that it would be important for me to have a good communication channel with him, so that I can guide him. However that by itself may not be enough.

You on the other hand want the childrens parents to be arrested by the police !!!! We have such a noble police force which has been operating for so many decades without a single blemish. I think that they would do a splendid job, isnt it. (I hope that you note the sarcasm)

My very limited knowledge of history tells me that kings like Akbar and Aurangzeb tried to eradicate prostitution unsuccesfully. Even in Iran under their strict Islamic laws, they have failed to eradicate prostitution, and you have marriages of 1-2 hours taking place to facilitate prostitution. So laws can be made till you go blue in the face.

Cheers

The girl wanted to be popular?

Mr. Gupta, are you out of your mind??? I think you need to clear some paradoxes from your head before becoming a social observer.

I am amazed at your pseudo-intellectualism. I dont think you are mature enough to write on social issues. Give yourself another 10 years and then come back.

Awright.

After my initial outrage at Mr Gupta`s biased opinion, Here are my 2 cents after I pumped some nicotine into my body and calmed down:

First of all the kids should be left alone, its not just their fault, the society is equally responsible for this disaster. They were not born with a plan to do this in their teens. The society shapes each individual, parents can try their best but the kids spend majority of their time out alone in the jungle we call modern day civilisation. The kids are exposed to all sorts of violence and vulgarity on television. The Indian cable industry is a free for all business. In the same room you have the religious dadi and the young bubbly grand children watching semi nude models and dancers exhibiting their latest pelvic skills in the item numbers. Their is no rating of any programming on any of the Channels. Its a free for all. everybody watches everything.

The indian media is going thru a transition period, they have borrowed all the style and the glitter from the west, but they did not bother to put any infrastructure in place to control or suggest the age restrictions for each channel or programme like the US has. Also the indian laws and the society is way too weak to prevent cases like the DPS MMS. Their is no concept of building a society with an indian concsience. All the writers we have in india spend their time and energy writing novels to impress the west so that they can get an award. Nobody focuses on the indian society except Shoba De who is busy writing novels full of infidelity and broken marriages. Everybody wants to be cool! Speaking in hindi became old fashioned in my father`s generation itself. Where is the indian conscience?

We are orphans! lacking a parent culture. We are trying to emulate people who were probably hanging from trees when we were writing scriptures:) Its a big shame.

Why dont we have any good sensible fiction that has characters who are indian/pakistani young adults? There should be stories that establish an identity for the sub-continental morals and values. The kids in india and I am sure also Pakistan grow up reading western teen romance and soft porn! What else do you expect from these kids when they grow up?

The DPS MMS case is slap in the face for the indian society, bureacracy and the media. The DPS MMS case is a reflection of the ugly inner self of the indian society, this is our OWN UNDOING! So instead of making the kids the scapegoats, the indian society needs to do a lot of introspection. We need to control the media and the internet, we need to look deep inside ourselves. Remember the world is nothing but a reflection of your inner self. You can not hate something bad you see without you yourself having a trace of the bad in yourself. You are responsible for anything that bothers you! Its as simple as that.

The Indian media and entertainment business is the most unleashed and shameless display of apathy towards social values and morals of the society.
The Mumbai film industry is the devil`s den. Indian movies have surpassed all scales of immorality and vulgarity. The monkeys of Shiv Sena are only bothered about destroying cricket pitches, they dont care about the damage thats being done to india by the latest breed of film makers. Recently the top brass of the mumbai police had an event marking some god forsaken anniversary they had. In this event they had all the semi-nude beauties doing gyrations to the tune of juiciest item numbers! So the police themselves have accepted all this!!

A weak , morally depraved indian society is in the making. The days are not far when the girls in our country will start taking pride in being half naked cheer leaders. They are growing up watching lara dutta and priyanka chopra live it up doing nothing but look good and sexy.

The technological revolution is accelerating the pace at which the society is decaying. Internet cafes have become swingers clubs!! What is the government doing?? Anybody can go to a internet cafe and watch and do as they please. School kids are watching porn and having sex in internet cafes under the garb of ``learning computers`` with proud parents back home pleased with their kids enthusiasm with technology! Who do we blame? The kids??

I dont think so.
