U left out something important.
Cricket requires no athleticism and no strategies. It`s a game for the adolescent children of the upper crust who don`t have to work for a living.

Very funny....I never thought of the preening/signifying/appearance aspect of cricket players....thought provoking!
Over here, some of us ask each other, why is it that American society is so rigid in terms of male hetero roles that men can only touch each other on the basketball courts...

did your sophomoric article have a point? Did you consider other reasons why your husband failed to form a sentence the whole day (a) didnt want to talk to you (b) preoccupied with work worries (c) just not a good communicator. At least he is gorgeous!!

When can we expect equally enlightening articles on other sports like Soccer- - 24 men and a ball... Snooker - 2 men and 21 balls .... Polo - 12 men, 12 horses, and a ball

do we need Freud to understand you, or do you need to understand him, before you write?

Incidentally how did you count 14 men on the screen...

Though quite a well done article, it amuses me no end to see how women tend to view cricket & therefore provides for quite a smirk !

Cricket rules head & shoulders over any game is self-evident & no disputes there please !

Would be looking forward to more such highly amusing viewpoints definitely ! :-)

re omar,

i`ll tell you something else about ns and cricket, do you know that when he practices he takes over a public park and (this is the awful bit) refuses to BOWL OR RUN BETWEEN THE WICKETS! he just bats. what else can you say about a man like that?

re all,

i`m glad those who enjoyed it enjoyed it, thanks for your comments. those who took it seriously dont deserve a response.

Shandana: N.S also plays Cricket, recently (honestly as ironic as this may seem) played against Journalists`IX (i kid you not), he scored a quickfire 90+ runs against them.

Maybe Shandana you should have thought more before picking up a high school Biology book and writing an article on your husband`s pastime these days.

Is it your intelligence that calls a sport hobby ratardation of a male mind. Perhspa you should refer to some other nations, like the USA, where culture is partly defined by their love and enthusiasm for different sports. Perhaps you were never taught how the founder of our country chrished the sport of cricket. Most people would like to go out and play the game, if they could, but when they can`t, they at least love to watch the game and enjoy. Its better than getting restless and doing other `retarded` things behind your back.

I am surprised hwo easily a writer like yourself can pass a judgment on sport fans all over the world, but ofcourse anythign against you would be narrow-mindedness.

Girl - Accept it - None of us is perfect and it`s OK to follow your favorite sport for 36 days in 4 years. Wish you had counted the no. of days that football world cup, or the NBA championships go on.

Shandana,

Must say the title caught my attention and that i enjoyed reading it as i (and perhaps my wife) can relate to the some of the examples you gave. However, with only a few minutes to go before the Pakistan South Africa clash, i dont have enough time to give a befitting response. Suffice to say that yes, it does lower the general male intelligence (one obviously assumes they have some to begin with)but that too has a good reason. It helps them to better communicate with women. Lest i inadvertantly get carried into in a sex bashing article, let me encourage you to write something on golf. The relationship between male intelligence and golf obsession - that`s what i want to read next.

i dont know why such a big issue is being made on cricket watching. Why does everything have to be criticized from all angles and analyzed and re-analyzed to get deeper and hidden meanings out of it.

Re: Shandana

11 Men and a Ball, as opposed to 11 Men and twentytwo Balls, I suppose? I take it to mean, then, a cricket team of 11 men does not have enough balls!

Well shandana, i think it is a well deserved right of any and every man to take a 36 day vacation every four years, whic by the way is about nine days a year. And to all outside of pakiland those 36 days are like a exquisite delicacy. Well i hope u would let mr. minhas be a genuine neanderthal for a week. Advise to all married man start wearing THE CUP, desi women considering the BOBBIT doctrine. And advising to all BOBBITING WIVES, leave IT at a close by seven eleven parking lot plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
