{" The frustrated Hamilton was forced to return empty-handed: "They are tempted to forsake their God for the love of Turkish women," he wrote in his report. "Such ladies are," he added, "generally very beautiful." "}
Billy Dalrymple Sahib,
I can attest to that. :)

souveneir shops in Las ramblas are yin-dians mostly - the Pakistanis owns most of the grocers, shops, take-ways, cash & carry's and tourism based business apart from Chaudry Shujaat's Family Owned Couple of 5 Star Hotels! and Subways!

I had been fortunate enough to own a apartment in Barcelona, Catalonia.During my frequent trips to Barcelona and interactions with average an Spaniard, I could safely add that people in Spain are not proud of what Muslims did to them but at a same time there is a realization and embarrassment from the average Joe on the street about Spanish atrocities and cleansing of Muslims during the medieval ages. Here I would also like to point out that during my interactions, I found Catalonians are very sensitive and sympatric towards Muslims (which of course is due to average Catalan’s hate for Madrid and that the Muslims did not made a agreement with the king of Catalonia – which imposed some special taxes on them ).
At a same time during my visits to West of Spain, Madrid, Gibraltar I found a systematic bias and even destruction of Muslim architecture and culture. Moroccan’s happens to be in the largest number of Muslims in Spain – and speaking to an average Moroccan is like speaking to a Negro in USA where Moroccans are considered by an average Spaniard as a thief and an alien. I think the Berbers contributed a lot to the development of Spain and Islamic Heritage – it was due to the open society where freedom to experiment was allowed and encouraged by then Muslim leaders that the Muslim’s excelled in the fields of sciences and mathematics.
Another interesting observation is that Spain is Spain (advance) because of the European Union and that Spaniards should be grateful to her western neighbors otherwise Spain would have been like another Morocco or Argentina.
There is a huge Pakistani presence in Barcelona (35000+) in Barcelona alone.
To me – the previous century has been the ‘golden century’ for Islam – where more then 50 Islamic & Muslim States got independence.

A great subject, but worth discussing only if Mr. Dalrymple was here to explain, defend, oppose his views. Otherwise we will have little more than another session of Islamophilic and Islamophobic tu-tu mai mai.
