"true democratic elections can only take place after we address these basic issues." (Yasir Abbasi)

"kaun jeeta hai teri zulf kay sur honekay tuk" -- Hindi translation -- "nu nau mun tail hoga nu Radha nachaiN gee"

Beradrum -- that's exactly what my true democrat son Musharraf says -- "true democratic elections can only take place after we address these "basic issues" of curbing the independence of Supreme Court, jailing of impartial judiciary and locking up thousands of lawyers -- beating up and disrobing the Human rights advocate women in public -- declaring illegal emergency to self coronate oneself -- inviting the exiled leaders from aboroad to get assassinated by themselves -- hosing down the evidence at the scene of crime with powerful fire truck hoses -- then inviting the Scotland Yard from abroad to collect the evidence from the scene of crime -- all these 'basic issues" will take at least another 5 years may more -- to get resolved."

Then may be and may be only THEN -- we will have a "true democratic" elections -- meanwhile a fairly and freely rigged one in February should do.

In reality, the politics of agitation is mainly due to Musharraf's insistence that he must remain the head of the state. If he leaves peacefully - and it seems eminently sensible that he should do so for the sake of the country - then I am optimistic that the society can begin to move beyond agitation, and towards some form of healing.

I like this meaning of crisis 'danger or opportunity'. In the current scenario in Pakistan, opportunity means farewell to one of the 'Kingdoms of Democracy' which travels in bloodline but is it all over? Here the future King has changed the bloodline to rule his Kingdom which is sometimes also called democracy.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan once said that the rulers are only the representatives of people. So I agree that we need to change our population's mind set to change our rulers.

The problem is, it takes time for nations to change their mind set and the question is how to survive until then.

"therefore elections can only take place after we address these basic issues." There is a typing error in this statement. It should read " therefore true democratic elections can only take place after we address these basic issues." Yasir Abbasi
