[...How ironic people WITHOUT any faith are discussing how interfaith discussion should be...]
well, then why don't you tell us how inter-faith discussion should be done?...
speaking of irony, here is one: saudis don't allow other-faith people pray standing on "land of mecca", but you pray very "faithfully" standing on kafir-land and facing mecca, five times a day... and yet you never see the irony of that, do you?... Or when you go on "haj" on handout gievn by a faith-less kafir govt... :)
So you tell us, since your such Mr Faithful, what's the right way to do inter-faith discussion... ha ha...

UN is only as good as its member states. When you bring together animals from all over the world and gather them under one roof, zoo is what you get. The staff at the Funds, the Programmes, and the Secretariat have NO power, not even to buy a calculator, without the permission of various committees, made of different countries, so it is not fair to blame the UN. Blame squarely lies on individual member states.

#5 - Why do platepissers go to USA if they have problem with the Great Satan?
I once flew through middle east....never again....the Pakis aren't treated any better....from what I've seen, and heard from Pakis....about their experience in the land of "their ancestry" and their "braathers"....

UN is a prostitute for hire......run by pimps with self interests.....ALL of them are puppets of the Western powers. They would let apes like Kofi Anan do their dirty work for scraps thrown at him, which were stolen from poor countries.....It is not politically correct to screw Africans and Asians.....so hire these pimps....let them take a cut and keep the apes in their place...
Let Saudis feel important for a price.....
The honesty of the article should be applauded......Muslim countries are notorious for denying basic rights to kafirs....there are only handful exceptions.....
Mohmad worshippers hosting such forums is like a hyena guarding the henhouse........

From NYTimes, "(the pope) cast doubt on the possibility of interfaith dialogue but called for more discussion of the practical consequences of religious differences."
What else have folks here been saying? Pope and all these religious leaders meeting in the Vatican should come to Chowk.

While I aplaud FQ's article, the issue is not just Saudi Arabia or Pakistan or other countries that are intolerant to religious minorities. The issue is UN itself. While UN should allow countries with poor/no track record on this issue to attend, they should not be allowed to speak or address other nations with pep talk. They should be allowed to listen to nations with strong records. In addition, UN should invite minorities(your avg PlumberJoe) from intolerant countries and they should address the leaders of the world. This will have a better effect not only on Al-Khajooris of SA and Zardaris of Pakistan but also the world will come to know who they have been dealing with...not that they dont know, but now it will be in public...and the world excluding Israel, US and Palau will be made to judge. Plus the world excluding the three countries mentioned earlier should hold their respective leaders accountable and ensure that they impose strict trade and other embargoes till SA, Pakistan and other religo-intolerant regimes/countries address their internal issue.

"In order to change the world we have to change ourselves." President Shimon Peres, addressing the interfaith Conference
A combination of a demigod King and Zionist leadr as peace makers—God help the Palestinians in particular and the region at large!
It must be the effect of hajj season on one and Christmas on the other that has brought about this pseudo “holy transformation or unholy alliance! But both are mirages.
What is needed is end of jahiliya in one country and Justice for occupied Palestine in the other. Other wise it is a case of:
“Sow chuhey khaakar billi hajj ko chali.

F Q You have written good article and needs kudos for that.
All you have stated is right but you can not have Democratization and liberal as that can lead to big problems to world.
The reason is this is one of most oppressed regime only money/ liquid black gold gives respectability. But for good of world we all will like that remain that way frozen in old times.
Now they are not Frozen in time and thawing is taking is place which is dangerous to health of world. Please note slavary was discarded in only 1962 which is not too far ago in generational terms.
Unfortunately there is disconnect between liquid gold deposition and sunni population. All Liquid gold is in East ( most must have heard Daharan etc) and is totally dominated by minority Shiyas. There is Ich of hundreds of years inflamed by education, spread of contact and people going out and coming back with "strange" ideas. Shias are alarmed as well as encouraged what is happening in all of Arab lands. Shias are chafing and if get chance they will liquidate family Inc limited. There are millions of Saudis who are not well and doing great. They know that they are carring dead wt of "family". Family is buying loyalty and forgivence from many groups. There have been many "disturbances" in Kingdom and Iran and shias are involved. In last encounter europen solders had to be brought and ( they were temperorily converted) they liquidated Irani sympathisers and shias were liquidated.
If Shias get power American control of Arabian fields will be lost. That will play havoc with worldoil prices. This is very dangerous time when defreezing is taking place. ( This very similar to Tsar Alexzander who brought liberation of peseants in Russia but led to great upheaval) King is wise man he knows it is better to have release of things it acts as puncture and do not explode ( like in boiler) but in worst case implode and shias do not get upper hands. With Baharain where rulers are Sunnis abu people are Shias and Iran has great influence.
In pure pakistani interest repression in KSA is better liberization will lead to loss of largeness or Regime. Saudu Oil Facility will be thing of Past. There is good moral poice control in east to keep shias away from trouble some actions. Recently some terror activities have happened and pipe line was blown up by trouble makes. Hopefully oppressive regime be kept for foreseeable future or till oil has exhausted or alternate fuels are developed for worlds sake. Only this family is guarding oil for american and western refiniries and they are are amply compensated so they can not complain and when those refinerioes work works world moves. Unfortunately we all are dependent on USA economy for for our well being. Amrica has finace problem and all world is in trouble. For people like us our all money is struck at KDE which is caged tiger and srtarving due to no activity. It almost gives heart attack to think what will happen if floor is removed ? It will be free fall or hard landing and hitting bottom or whole floor star sinking. Now let us hope KSA and Amricans and ArabAmerican (Aramaco) company keeps tight control so we do not face another 911. King can do all phony tamashas specially when all world knows xrated movies consumption per capita is highest in world and so of Scotch Wisky. It is all drama and fake "interfaith express" but it should go on those who can get on should catch this train and have fortune before it starts. I suspect all this talk is similar to gone ruler like that about moderation, democracy, subse pahala Pakistan. King has copied General presidents style. Presidents and primeministers come and goes but for stbility we need King Abdula for ever.
good day.

Criticise Saudi Arabia and HP will show up and post multiple articles criticising the US.
This guy with his high faluting words and waffle is fundamentally just a communal jihadi and it is obvious to me at least.
Nothing in the least in the article is addressed by him but just a bunch of cut and pastes from that fascist who poses as a sophisticated liberal.

Kudos to the Feroz Qutabshahi for a great article which manifests its quality by making jihadis like HP go into a tantrum.

With the wealth and resources Saudi Arabia has, it can do so much for the good of the world. They can still retain their customs and whatnot, but given the fact that there is a huge number of foreigners in that country, they should let them practice their faith.
The only native religious minority in Saudi Arabia is the Shias in the eastern province (mainly in al-Qateef and al-Ahsa area). They are discriminated against, and their mosques must have state clearance before even delivering a sermon. The rest of the minorities there are foreign workers.

Feroz, well said. Muslim societies must learn to treat religious minorities amongst them with dignity.
