[This you are teaching to Indian diplomats???? You think they are the most idiots among them all or that is the impression you got from 60 years of their diplomacy?]

Yes, this Bhasin character is not very bright. But how many of the "writers" on Chowk are?

Chowk only gives us Indians an opportunity to curse at the idiot Pakis for all the biting at our heels they do. Beyond that, it doesn't have much use.

[First and foremost, ... India has to emerge as a partner for the U.S. capable of shouldering the burden of responsibilities and taking difficult decisions. India will have to appropriately blah blah blah blah.....

Second, .... India should in no way expect that the U.S. blah blah blah...

Third, there is an urgent need on India’s part to replace blah blah blah....

Fourth, India will have to demonstrate blah blah blah...

Fifth, India will have to adopt the style of “empowering leadership in South Asia blah blah blah....

Sixth, Indian bureaucrats and leaders will have to blah blah blah...

India will have to reorient her terms of reference with the U.S blah blah blah....]

India is obligated to do exactly....nothing. Barrack Hussein Obama, who has done little else than talk a whole lot, will have to prove he's going to be able to do ANY of the big things he promised. Here's a prediction - he'll fail to achieve ANY of the BS he's been feeding the idiots.

Madhavi Bhasin, however, may feel free to do whatever she wants to, to make Obama happy.

Well written. Indians wud never change. The politi-clowns in India never possess the 1/10 of the clarity of Obama's.

Joe Klien's the best commentator on US politics/issues.

Wake up dude! there is nothing called alignment or non-alignment in world politics anymore, its a multilateral world. As for historical knowledge, thinking individuals learn from history to carve a future rather than live as 'historical beings'.
And u are right...the article was not meant for someone who is keen to be an ostrich and allow our national interests to be sacrificed at the alter of national ego.
Anyways thanx for reading the article and responding (though a response without spelling errors would make more sense)

This article represents ignorence about india of teh highest order. At the height of cold war india supported the NAM concept so that she is neither aligned with the US or russia.

The image that indians have, about their place under the sun, was never ever imagined to be in teh shadow of teh US. the author has absolutely no idea about teh indian history, teh indi-us nuclear agreement is an exception, rather than teh rule for indo us relations.

Indian foreign policy never was and will be paki centric and teh poor author is completely confused. Nop doubt teh paki will like this article, it fits in with their image of india.

There is something called "policy research", which is neither intended to teach diplomats nor appraise political leaders. Its an attempt to decipher the best tools for framing national policy. The article was a humble attempt at undertaking such analysis in my own limited way.

Fifth, India will have to adopt the style of “empowering leadership in South Asia to strengthen her case as a global power. Opportunities rather than hindrances; assistance rather than criticism and guidance rather than domination have to emerge as defining characteristics of India’s regional policy. President Obama himself personifies a collaborative bottom-up leadership approach.

Sixth, Indian bureaucrats and leaders will have to do their homework and be prepared with details and analysis while interacting with the Obama administration. Irresponsible comments by India’s leadership or lack of information on the bureaucrat’s part may diminish the India’s credibility. Written agendas, concise briefing, well-disciplined team, minimal yet orderly interaction with the press were some of the features of President Obama’s election campaign.

India will have to reorient her terms of reference with the U.S. under the Obama administration. A shared commitment to democracy will not automatically translate into resilient partnership; regional profile will not guarantee a privileged place in the new alliance of nations; shared sympathies as victims of terrorism will not result in preferred counter-terrorism strategies; regional threat perceptions will not rationalize expansion of the nuclear program. Comprehending Obama’s style of politics does not imply that India needs to surrender her geo-political priorities to please the new administration in Washington.
Nor does it amount to alignment (heresy in Indian foreign policy) with the U.S. Through a harmless adaptation of diplomatic strategy India can synchronize her national interests with the priorities of the Obama Administration.
Robert Jervis advised that national policies depend on perceptions of decision makers and thus India stands to gain by understanding President Obama’s perceptions.

Your article looks like an appraisal of an employee by his immediate manager, where in manager is actually not saying anything but using obvious or overused terms to basically mar the whole appraisal process (just because either he is not serious in appraising the performer or he doesn't have the capability).

Sorry, I may be stupid and your intention may be good. In any case, Obama with a shrinking economy is neither a head master nor a global manager of world, and nor he or his administration will be in a position to behave as a careless authoritative "boss" telling people what to do, to make him understand right from wrong. Obama will need to understand lot of it on his own and first two years will tell him how he is doing (where he is right and where he is wrong).
