VRV (#91),
Zodiac stuff and newspaper astrology are sheer entertainment and can’t be taken seriously. So mock them by all means.
However, I am debating a more general issue … that of heavenly bodies, directly or indirectly, having some impact on human psychology. In your view there is no impact whatsoever. And that is a perfectly valid viewpoint. As for me, I would like to sit on the fence, and weigh in the evidence and ideas a bit more …

"comparing misleading astrology with revealed religion.."
Ah, Tahir mian, now I have drawn ou into an argument.
You mean Islamic revelations are not mumbo-jumbo and is not black magic.
Infact Islamic revelations are complete mumbo-jumbo - full of superstitions about angels and djinns and houries.
And how does angel sit on the top of jehadis in order to defeat 10 mushriques??
And what about the prediction of end of eternity and coming of the Mehdi and Jesus to destroy all non-muslims with a laser beam emitting from his eyes (with thanks to Dr. Israr Ahmed for his commentary on this mumbo-jumbo)??
Islam is full of balck magic..........and this mumbo-jumbo about Qurbani as a black magic animal sacrifice to please the blood thirsty formless God??

Neme,
You ought to have waited for my response and shown that you went to a better school! Now, look at you supporting the likes of sinful illlogocal Laddu!
Appaling ignorance!
'these people are damned to be reborn as pigs.'
You cannot draw parallels between abusing God's men and criticizing horoscopes, can you? Are you comparing misleading astrology with revealed religion sent for the benfit of the entire mankind?
If others haven't benefitted, it will be nice if you took advantage of God's Grace and Mercy.
Shanti.
PS: I must disappoint you, but Muslims do not believe in Buddhist reincarnation, and none consume swine--leave alone assume that form!

Logical-Addu,
You utter blasphemies against everything except yourself since you're not sacred but utterly profane.
'billions of muslims world wide bowing down to a superstition 5 times a day'
And what do YOU do, watch them in pain and despair, or wish Kali would strike all believers dead?
Worship your own mind, materialist; you cannot wish us away no matter how much you reamin seated in the laps ChowQ Stuffed.
And since when knocking sense into your tiny brain has become ABUSE?
Do flush out that dirt from your head (start with three times a day).

I think this is the general tendency of the islam supporters. When they call names to anything other than islam, there are responses simultaneously. But when somebody makes a remark on islam, to draw parallel between islam and what they are scoffing at, nobody seems to pick up the gauntlet or the likes of tahir mian and philosopher just begin to puke. Incidentally, they seem to only like what tahir mian pointed out (stuff you eject every morning in the bathroom (I hope you do that each day)). Disgusting!!
Bhutto had promised grass for thousand years. These people are damned to be reborn as pigs.

One can say the same thing about Islam that the author says about Astrology-
"Islam misleads the public, constantly denounces scientific development and belittles human intelligence. "

Tahir mian,
You cannot defeat my logic........so you abuse me......so typical of Islamic logic of "He who physically/verbally abuses his opponent has the best logic"!!!

Nemescis, the ChowQ goat ate my long response (rather an I-log) I sent for you to read. You know what this means, don't you?
I'm currently away from home and will post the original answer upon returning to the Fatherland.
Thanks for the patience.

Islam makes as fantastic predictions about so many things about this world, the souls.
Islam considers Duas as shamanistic chants.
How can Duas as Chants do any good ??
This is the biggest of all the shams and an superstition that inflicts millions of muslims world wide!!!

Belief in Allah as the fromless God is the biggest of all the 'superstitions'.
Belief that Allah mian sits on his throne of heavens getting assisted by the angels is another fantastic 'superstition'.
One can say the same thing about Islam that the author says about Astrology-

Sattar,
U r an extremely difficult guy to contradict (in a +ve sense, I mean). Lemme try.
Pl try to stay in the room with lights of diff colours.
Try Mercury lamp. Try Sodium Vapour lamp. Try Neon lamp. Try coloured lamps (blue, red, green, violet etc). See if u feel diff. Try to stay in a dark room. U see the diff.
It definitely means that the light exposure, colour and candela impacts ur mind. Is it something mysterious of something that can be explained? I dont think so.
If Mohammed had not explained as to why he chose 13,14 & 15 then nobody can. Believers can assume any meaning.
I never heard that 'rotation of moon and earth' impacted the colour, smell and texture of any fruit. News to me.
As for seasonal changes affecting taste then it because of the moisture, temperature and the soil quality. Do u see anything mysterious in this? I dont.
I didnt understand the zodiac stuff.

I am not sure of astrology as being practiced in today’s popular culture, but here are some rambling thoughts …
- I have heard of anecdotal evidence that full-moon has some affect on human psyche … rousing the poetics (or the werewolves) in the populations. In some cases some city authorities even cite higher crime rate on full-moon nights. Granted, correlation is not the same as causality, so one needs to be careful in interpreting data and trends.
Along the same lines: If I am not mistaken, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to fast 3 days of every month (in addition to the month of ramzaan). These days were the 13th, 14th, and 15th of the lunar month. I have often wondered about his choice of these particular days for fasting …
- Rotation of moon, earth etc. impact seasons and hence vegetation … resulting in varying color, smell, texture, and taste of each fruit, from season to season. If rotation of heavenly bodies can affect plants, could it also impact human mind and body? I wonder …
- And finally: The zodiac charts and the respective calendar dates were put together several thousand years ago. Slight error in accounting of days has resulted in significant shifts over time. That is, if a particular formation of plants occurred on Nov 15 a few thousand years ago, that formation may occur around Feb. 9th in this day and age. So to be accurate, zodiac calendars should be recalculated and adjusted …
… this is my useless contribution to an immensely idiotic topic; you guys need to get a life …

Your knowledge is commendable. I do not dispute it.
Only thing that peeved me was your treatment of the words 'horoscope' and 'vedic' both of which are sacred to us. Nobody is trying to impose it on you. I think we should have no issues if we stop denigrating each others' beliefs. Chowk will be a better place to exchange views.
