ahmed...
please avoid phyco-nerotic drugs...they are the best tool to keep you in that state and even aggravate the situation...this is my personal experience...go for yoga and pranayam (if you get good teacher in Pakistan)...that is the best tool to recover from phycho-nerotic desease...
JayP, It is very dangerous stuff. Once, I had taken these medicines ( to cure IBS) for little longer time (http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Zosert)
And that created hell for me..I had left my job, I was not able to eat, sleep etc...The strange part is, I was fully aware that I am facing some problem and even had developed suicidal tendency......Before I started taking these medicines, my elder brother ( who is like my father) alarmed me severly...he had even tried to explain how it works ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin)...
Sir, entire human body is full of bio-chemistry...you don't know, what way you will behave, if some chemical flows little less from glands/cells?
psychiatric ailment is far more dangerous than physical one....

Jayp, as you rightly said, you have no idea what depression is. Good for you. You should have stopped there. If it were so easy to talk yourself out of depression, it wouldn't be such a big issue.

Re: # 13
Madani saab,
I have no idea what depression is, nor I have any idea what boredom is. The simple fact is that one has to take oneself not very seriously and accept that there are forces beyond ones control, a kind of notion of karma. And it is possible that one can become aware of this destiny. A good example is obama, in his demeanor there is a a kind of feeling that he is aware of his destiny, he will be in the history of mankind.
It is sad to know that you are having depression, but at some stage you have to realize that the root cause of depression is self importance, a kind of a feeling that this should not happen to you. May you have to ask the question, why not, what is so important about you, and then you will enjoy depression???

ana:- yup, I stayed over again, and got a few wakeys in the middle of the night, everytime something went "thump" nearby, outside the window.
nb:- it's not that bad, actually, the local police, they were quite polite and very efficient. Took their photos, samples, evidence, and on their way.
tahir:- coconut falls on head, pretty much all abilities are lost. And ofcourse plenty of Muslims are Communists too, what else is new?

It's not natural to feel that way even if you are growing older. Depression is not a normal part of aging. Don't just accept it.

Re: # 14 Times are terrible ? not really. I have done all for my family and its evening time of life and shadows are lengthening. I have general good feeling and medical chemicals and I do see and talk theropist and it helps. And they agree drugs have helped at various ( I do not remember
abilify, respirdol, prozac etc they are all effective but they start loosing edge after some time. I found prozac best which elevates mind and one feels too good the problem is collapse also occurrs and more is deeper, cheap also, respirodol is very good but too costly and olittle gain of weight, being not foody I did not get weight but lost efficacy soon, abilify was last and it taught and help to average out elevation and depression and real last was symablta was useful as that does not have addictive "nature" one can take as needed. It was last drug and now do not take any medicines absolutely , for some time and able to control depression).I am trying to sublime and have able to understand and forget things or desires and which were wanted but never got , there is no sorroy or worry about that. The cat is fine and is very intelligent compared to other cats.
Till the time my intelligence has courage things will fine, I have always tried to be with faithful corrage and they work.I must have written after few months
Good luck everybody, bye

Re: # 5 Mr.Jayp... what you want to say ? Did not get. Presently not well some bout with depression problem, trying to climb up out od darkness , need to catch and climb out of this darkness.
Read what Veeresh wrote it is very interesting to read reaction of normal people. The person who comes to such decision mostly comes above conclusions thoughtfully and find best what is for him / her. Many times depressed person's sorrow, the density and depth of sorrow is beyongd limits. Some times I now by experience , only comparable is idea of Black Hole and critical mass density as suggested by C.S. ( particular density decides if it will dying star or black hole). When depressed person sinks just there are few particles hope emitting one needs to catch and it require great effort beyond normal persons imagination to to have that and to hold to it. You miss opportunity you collapse for days and weeks to again find and catch something. In that stage one looses time sense , day is night and night is night, dark, cold and hopeless.
Yes it is hard on loved once but life it hard and sorrowful for suffer and hopefully he ends life is end of sorrow end of story.Living with depressed people is not easy for friends , wife or children they have life, any body can do so much only. As told truth by KingLears "not so favourite" daughter. He asks his daughters how much they love others lie, only she tells him truth which makes him angry. She tells Lear " I love you as father nothing more and nothing less". The lear explodes as truth is bitter. With age I have become more sublime (or you become worse more like possessive child) it is not morally right of doctors and relates to force somebody to live, there is no reason for others to make him live through more pain, they shouuld be allowed to exit if they want.
Person can live for reasons through depression say for family , specially for daughters and they grow up, some how does not feel one should live for sons. One feels obligation to provide for daughters , what they will do without father? Then when one's wife passes it is sad but is liberating as one always worries how she can survive without you. Then is time you have luxuray to die. Recently my old male cat died and I cried for missing but happy that he was cared up to end. Now I have old female cat left and I talk to her and we enjoy company of each other.
Any way it is not sad but end of misery for person who was suffering. I hope I have courage enough when time come, when there no much coloe left in living, I will quit fast.
Mr. Ranjit sent me some nice music I enjoyed, thank good man Ranjit.
this little delightful rendering in Sohani, what remarkable mannerism picked up by daughter remainds sparks of her father.

my husband and i are in the teatime of our lives. i've always wondered why 'oldies' don't get involved in teaching street children, or helping out with animals in vet hospitals, or volunteering to do paperwork for a local dispensary or teaching teenagers to cook. suicide isn't an option because beta-bahu are planning to go to another country. many of our elders (in good health and not necessarily tortured in any way) expect to be attended to all the time. and they get depressed when that doesn't happen. having said that, it's very, very sad when someone decides to take one's life for whatever reason. there's helplessness and deep despair involved. i feel sorry for them as also for those left behind.

Jay,
Muslims and communists? God-fearing men believing in Godless theories dished out by the 'chosen people' anarchists?
Life is full of surprises.

"Many like me having spent decades in the west"
Oh yeah?
"...can feel at home in kerala river side watching the coconuts mature and fall on the heads"
Too many coconuts falling on one's head ruins one's thinking ability.
Rest is all fine.
:)

The loneliness typically happens to parents who have left their village and moved to the city to be with their children. In the city wilderness they are alone, and old age is not a time to make new friends or find something to do.
Such people should have stayed in the villages, as most of the values are formed at an early age, where such values still exist in villages.
