Kal Penn, it was surprising to see after success of "harold and kumar" and "van wilder - rise of taj", he comes on "superman returns" and didn't say a single line!!! he is quite all thru the scenes just obeying the orders given to him & then dies!!!

Ras,
I would be better for you to confine the scope within Pakistan....
Indian movie industry is quite old and qualitatively not much inferior to US movies...May be those who are US centric, they may find it exaulting....
I can compare this with the appearance of Vikash Thorasu in FIFA World cup....

This article has appeared in Dawn, Karachi in its Images Magazine.

Now what is this excitement about here?

Anyone remember Kal Penn in "Superman Returns" a few

years ago? Faran Tahir's role in this Star Trek was much

more memorable.....

He is of South Asian Descent or a "Desi" (USA born?).

You have to start somewhere right?

Heck, I've written over 100 pieces on CHOWK and all kinds

of fame, glory and MONETARY REWARDS have followed!!!!

I'm glad that Faran was a part of this enjoyable movie.

And who knows, with all the time travel in this story,

a future/past Captain Robau may return...

Maybe we all need to sit back and drink a cool one?

Echo can abstain.

Ras

One is reminded of Indian actor IS Johar who had a role of an Arab in the movie Lawrence of Arabia. When we went to see the movie, lot of us kept looking for Johar, and we really had to look hard. When somebody spotted him ( he had a thirty second role as a camel driver) there were cries of Johar Johar!

I watched the movie in the theatre and despite looking at the picture can not recall that this person was there in the movie. Ras's article and praise for him reminds me of Reema and Meera when they have a guest appearance in a Pakistani movie for a rain drenched Item song. They have this to say for themselves 'mera chota magar powerful role hai'. Same goes for this Faraz's role. See I have already forgotten his name

Ras and Echo,

Glad, you liked the scraps thrown by bhaanD/artistic Hollywood, but why don't we have a Islamic bhaanD/artistic tradition that we can be proud of?

++++++

Wrong! He is killed in the first five minutes by a crazy Romulan MoFo, so they will be happy.

Many I know say he was a tyrant at the PNCA. Anyway, it pays to have a resourceful daddy.

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani national, Faran Tahir*, is playing the role of Captain Robau in the recently released block buster, Star Trek.

Faran Tahir, son of the Director General of Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) Naeem Tahir, is a Pakistani born American actor who noticeably played the role of Villain in last summer`s superhero action flick Iron Man and now will be seen in Star Trek as Captain Robau.

Robau is the captain of the Kelvin, the starship and the story goes on the ship.

Tahir hopes that with an actor of Pakistani descent on board, Star Trek will also make an appearance in cinemas across Pakistan.

Faran thinks that there is a generation that has not grown up with Star Trek, because there hasn`t been a movie out for a while and the TV franchise has now gone.

In an exclusive talk with state-run news agency, Farhan said that there is a good chunk of young people who don`t know Star Trek directly, and he thinks that he has succeeded in creating a bridge that keeps original Star Trek spirit alive and yet it updates it enough that the new audience can own it for their own.

Star Trek is a pop culture icon and as time goes, this story going to live on, he added.

The character of Captain Robau is that who created the ship while this character hasn`t seen before.

It is a point of discussion for many that people have not seen a captain who was of a Middle Eastern origin.

He says that it was good kind of go back and start the story again to fill in the blanks a little bit to give people a deeper understanding of who these people are.

End.
