Re : Appreciation of Poetry

Indeed Master Pk`s critique about people not reading poetry, or appreciating it is well taken.... Perhaps those of us, born and bred wholly in Pakistan (school years...), are often not fortunate enough in having a good mentor, one invariably requires in order to appreciate the finer points and imagery of poetry...

Having said that, I do realise there is a certain beauty in poetry which can often touch us, even if we had not any erudition or formal training in appreciating the truly great Masters of the art of poetry.

I must say it is often a matter of preference. I want my stories to have a finite ending, a result, a solution, an end. Whereas poetry, I feel, does not have any end, or boundaries, and it can be merely extrapolated to so many related themes, that to really appreciate it, one needs a lot more concentration, devotion, quiet, and time. And Time is a commodity, which is a rare resource these days. Hence I made it Compromise to switch over to short stories.... which caters to my literary cravings, and within a reasonable period of leisure time.....
