Well, it is almost like a prose poem. Quite a beautiful one. I would have wanted it to be slightly shorter, but since it is a letter, it can extend the way it has. And then it is a love letter which can go on and on for the twain of affection is obviously endless.

If yu can kill, then yeah, the love is true for it has that madness true love is associated with. The best part bout the letter is its content. It is written well. And the way it is written, it is difficult to gauge whether it is for a man or a woman from a man or a woman.

There`s no hint of homosexuality or hetrosexuality. It is just love. The object of Love is an object of affection. His sex status is irrelevant. It is just pure and simple love. The jealousy is there for it germinates automatically and saps one of a lot of energy.

As Shakespeare has very rightly said:

So true a fool is love, That in your will

Though you do anything, he thinks no ill.

Well written Jawahara, though I wish if you could break into paragraphs more frequently, the thought process may get a certain continuity. Long Paras tend to deter the attention span.

Re: Zehra

You amaze me! Mom told me to stay away from girls like you who are nothing, but trouble. But that`s the way I like it! :)

Re: Jawahara

One of these days, we will have to get together and I will tell you my dark secrets, which are the reason why I will never run for elected office! Then you can write about them and I will retain Omar Mirza as my attorney and sue you for libel. After the trial, we will use the money to have a Chowk picnic as a bon voyage gift for Saad and Anita before they return to Pakistan!

Re: Shandana

I am keeping my eyes on you! When you become the Min of Info in Pure-is-tan, I will toast your success, but not with orange juice and we will get silly and quote Byron together: ``fight, fight where ever you may be for freedom`s cause....``

re: js.

for one of them i did have to take legal action. luckily it didnt go further cuz the guy got scared off and let me alone. it is the most awful feeling in the world. my space was no longer private. my email account was also hacked and all personal emails were posted on some website. it was NOT a fun time.

slink: hehe...as if there is any question as to who did the stalking.

feroz: hijabi i am...good?

rizvi

I knew we were kindred spirits Shandana, and to carry this mutual admiration society thing further, I too have thoroughly enjoyed your work.

If my travels ever take me to your part of the world, keep those chilli chips ready, `coz I can pack them away. And of course, if you ever, for some strange reason, happen to be in Indianapolis, I shall return the favor.

Zehra, I cannot even imagine what one must feel like when stalked. I just realized how strange it is, that I *can * imagine being the stalker..uh oh. Did you have to take legal steps, etc. to get rid of these people? Of course, you don`t have to answer if you can`t or don`t want to.

dear jawahara,

an interesting and well written story about your average pakistani male. (that was a JOKE people).
like you, i find the `darker` side of life more interesting and sometimes have to be physicaly restrained from first person narrative :)
i`d just like to tell you i really enjoy your work, feel we have a lot in common, and if ever you come to karachi you must get in touch and i`ll feed you all the chilli chips you can eat.

zehra,

dont knock stalkers, that`s how i met my husband. which of us do you think was the stalker?

feroz,

min of in? me? you dont think this is posssible? not even if i grow my mustache?

shandana

Am I a goth? Since I despise labels more than I love darkness, I would have to say no. I am deeply interested in what drives our lives, what makes us do things, especially all our dark passions. Also, I suppose, unconsciously, I try to imbue my characters with more than one dimension. The guy in this story, apart from being a stalker and obsessive, is also lonely, a misfit in the city and just plain sad.

Death, or rather, the flash of time between the end of life and the onset of death is what truly fascinates me.

Re: Zehra

Alright Zehra, lets talk about these two stalkers!

How come a nice hijab wearing girl like you can have stalkers? Just what kind of an alter-ego are you living hon.... I know that Jawahara has a dark side and now I learn that you have secrets too! Next thing I will find out is that Slink is secretly the Minister of Information in Pakistan, but does not like to admit that!

Re: Jawahara

You mentioned that you were interested in aspects of death etc. and I was wondering whether if you are, by any chance, into that whole gothic movement? A desi goth.....!? It is like that jingle from the Philips commerical: got to admit its getting better all the time! :)

damn.

im fighting chills down my spine. having had two stalkers in my life before, i feel the need right now to hide. safe in my parents bed under some covers, close enough to amee to smell her last cigarette of the night. too bad they dont let me sleep with them anymore.

very awesome. even though it might give me nightmares. :)

Re: YZ

Please have some mercy, don`t diminish the sacred word `love` by equating it with what was obviously a well depicted story about the psychopathology of a very disturbed, repressed, angry and emotionally dysfunctional young man. He is `fixated` on the object of his misplaced and msidirected obsession (which he mistakes for affection). Form his behavior one could call him a `stalker` and a `pedophile` but that would give the poor lunatic more culpable responsibility than he can handle. It would imply that he is a sociopath. From his monologue he seems not to be a sociopath. He seems more unhinged at a deeper emotional level than a run-of-the-mill sociopath.

Hamid, to me the guy in the story was very obviously a stalker. From obsessing about the girl from when she was a teenager, his anger at unconscious indiscretions to his need to possess her enough to want to kill her, were all part of this.

And Feroz, your comment/question did make laugh. Thank you. I guess we all have our hidden angsts, and I am no exception. That said, the darker side of people and life, and very obviously, death fascinates me much more than the goodness and light around us. Weird I guess. I am also obsessed with figuring how different people think and how and why they do the things they do. Right now I try to do this by putting myself in their skin, hence my penchant for first person narratives.

And my plan, Feroz, is to keep people guessing about my dark, deep secrets, of course.:-)
