My Big Fat Greek Wedding... best comedy ever. How is it insulting to the Greeks? Because it shows they are human and have their little quirks about Windex. Because it shows they are a loving family and they are willing out to hang out with their extended family even if it embarrassing sometimes? And they help each other out in business?
Nia`s first priority is getting married? Have you totally wiped out her going to college and finagling an internship from your mind? She just happens to fall in love.... incredibly enough, people do.
She is a modern, independent woman who will marry whomever she wants? When she makes it clear that she will not marry him if he does not convert because she does not want to break off relations with her family?
And I totally fail to see your objection to Ian becoming Greekified and accepting a minority culture. The movie ends with their daughter going off to Greek school to preserve that cultural heritage, not ``integrating``, what`s wrong with that message?

This whole article is again the same old ``everything remotely american`` is bad. Greek wedding is a comedy. I did not come out of the cinema hall thinking anything negative about the Greek-American community. On the other hand it does seem like they are capable of laughing on themselves.
The writer`s views on Sweet Home Alabama are even more far fetched. It is again a silly movie meant for young women. I don`t hear any southerners or northerners complaining. Somehow Jonathan is the only guy who spotted somebody on the grassy knoll in this case.
If the topic is stereotyping in hollywood the writer could have written about the stereotyping of Arabs in Movies. I agree they are always shown in a bad light. Even movies in the 70`s and 80`s show them as stupid people with a lot of money ready to stab people at the first oppurtunity. The potrayal of Arabs is generally very insensitive. Usually there is nothing funny about it.
I am still to figure out why articles on Chowk are always beating about the bush. If you think hollywood is stereotyping muslims why not say so.

Goodness gracious me, somebody swear to god that chutney on the bhaji by the beach of meera Syal and the 12-heads and Hydra are the names of movies [that I haven`t heard of], and not code names for some international espionage characters in Iraq-Pakistan-India nexus of evil --or something such!

Here is a question for you Sherlock. Britain ruled India and Pak. Both became free in 1947, right? Today, India is not exporting terrorism worldwide but Pakistan is. Why? Let me give you a hint. It has nothing to do with Islam but a lot to do with ideology.
