Welcome to CHOWK Ibrahim Khalil

Anyone remember the Das Number (#10) from Tariq Road to
Guru Mandir?

Anyway W-11 brought back a lot of memories of perpiration, effort,
body odors, cigarette smoke charas, and many other traveling companions of my Karachi days. Bus rides, many rejections but no erections.

How much is a bus ticket these days?

Ras

Ibrahim: This was very very funny! In fact, I`ll tell you exactly how funny it was. After drinking two glasses of water, I set down to read your article. Immediately, I knew that I had to go and pee. I told my bladder that I`ll go after reading a paragraph or two. But, all hats off to you. You had me mesmerized till the last line. Though my bladder tells me that it could have been a tad bit shorter. Great work!

P.S. Please email me your mailing address. In case I get a bladder infection, at least I`ll know where to send the doctor`s bill.

#5 Yildrim:

``Wholesome pursuit of sovereignty`` over whom or what. Gravity, Space, Time and the Sun(s) are generally the givens which are the parameters under which we operate. Doing differential equations with our lives on a dTime and dSpace basis we try to reposition ourselves in the maelstrom of society, of which we are a subject & object simultaneously. We can in absolute sense never construct. We can only renovate or improve-upon. The foundation can never be demolished.

Maybe the concept of the individual as a being is a sham (illusion?) itself.

Thank you for your prescription. I had never heard of this name before. Maybe you use it very often. Is it really effective?. I`ll keep this in mind if & when anyone needs it.

Is it good for your bouts of drinking as well. I am sorry that my writings drove you to the bottle. No AA meetings anymore? You did sound cured until recently.

Thanks a lot again.

Ibrahim:

This one is well-written though a tad too long. I guess as a newbie the writer is always debating whether his work has enough juice and makes it unnecessarily long. Better luck next time.

Just wanted to let you know that the statistics presented in the article were not arrived by carrying out statistical techniques. Since it is almost a year since I travelled in W-11, statistics are based on the events that i recalled easily.

#5 GZ:

Goethe said something to the effect that ``know thyself`` is a sham. If he kenw himself he`d run away. Baudrillad added that identity is a farce; it prevents the wholesome pursuit of sovereignty.

Maybe not having a clue about yourself is the way to go. A will to stupidity for the sake of power.

Ha-Ha!! Gives outsiders a real feeling of Karachi. What I also want to know is:- do the drivers curse and kick the engine bonnet covers in the morning while they are using the heaters and then subsequently, while they are revving to build up ``pressure``?

A healthy mix is definitely better and it is getting better. The anglicised Indi Paki is becoming extinct by the minute. The kids born or raised outside the colonised influence know better and their writings have the earthiness and substance of free-will. They do not set out to write literature. They do not cover themselves with the miasma & goo of `literature`. Generally they observe more and read less. In short, they do not suffer from intellecualitis.

Those who have no clue about themselves start by writing their own psychoanalysis (read: dirty laundry of their brain) in public to get some laughs or sympathies from their former masters....ala slam rushdick etc.
Such buffoons deserve our pity but not sympathy.

CHOWK is definitely improving by the day. It is articles like these which bring to us 100% homespun which are the cry of the hour. English language must be put to use to reaffirm Pakistaniness and not phoren-ness. There should be more about the common, the average, the avaami, the kurta-shalvaar-dhotee kind of intelligentsia rather than the aids-infested/infatuated bimbos & pimpos.
