Thanks for sharing TS Eliot with me, hes been on the top of my list for a long time. This is my second time at Chowk...and your response made it worthwhile.

I`m no Shanzeh,
I come from the other side of the looking glass....if you`ll be knowing me, you`ll recongnise me even with the burqa on.

Welcome to CHOWK Shabbo squared.
I have heard that Kandy is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Would you agree?

Very well written. Beautiful. Original.
And thank you for this modern, advanced cultural insight. This is also called Spurning Authority--the proud & polite muslim way.
``Jiss ko ho deen o dil azeez, uss kee galli mein jaaye kyooN.``
[[Any kind of head covering in front of a statue of Buddha was considered a sign of disrespect. So I had to wait outside. Which was great when I think about it, I sat and sketched the Temple elephant, Vigarath, but what I was unprepared for was the group of men and children that gathered some feet behind me watching and commenting excitedly on my drawing. ]]

Enjoyed the description of Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth.A visit to Kandy is,however, incomplete without visiting Peradeniya Botanical Gardens ,nestled in the curve of Mahaveli River on your way from Colombo to Kandy. It has some of the finest specimen of orchids in the world, boasting of over 300 varieties in its famous Orchid Garden. You must
have also passed Dambulla on your way to Kandy, which is a World Heritage Site.It has wall paintings in the five caves comprising of the Rock Temple Complex with over 150 images of Lord Buddha. However, the ceiling of the main cave boasts of the largest Painted area in the World.
This magnificent country is a delight for eco-tourists, but has not been able to sell this aspect to the world as sucessfully as the Puerto Ricans have done.Thank you for a glimpse of the paradise.

Dear Writer,
Nice article. Have always found Sri Lankans to be soft-spoken, hard-working people.
``I’m a tourist again, but this time in the comfort of my own country, and the time frame of more than thirteen days.``
:) It`s quite a privilege travelling affords us, to be able to enjoy another`s perspective and thus enlarge, and enrich, our own lives. As TS Eliot said, ``We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.``
All the best,
Aamir
