The way nadeem writes is sophisticated. A mix of narratives in a way. Is there a name to this technique of his?

I don`t really get the links between these three dramatically exaggerated dialogues you`ve written. The first two make sense but the don`t understand the Cannabis Cinema story.

Anywho, the way you`ve reflected the society`s specific lifestyle is very unsual....but true...

You mean the link between the three stories? I thought you forgot to give a link to a web site. Sorry about that.

nfp:
*hands you a piece of cloth with eyes closed*

but seriously. . .i`m curious about the nuances that i did not get. and don`t you think there could be nuances, or interpretations that are present, but not consciously realized by you that could be caught by someone else and might add to the text, if not necessarily subtext here?

nooralain,
Impressive. You got most of the nuances which generated the subtext for
Cannabis Cinema right. I stand exposed.

i also meant to add that there is only so much one can put a piece under a magnifying glass. .there is such a thing as over analyzing.

trashman:
i wonder if it`s wise to project the fate of the character on that of the writer. they aren`t necessarily the same.

nfp:
the end?! (yaani ke bas?)

i don`t claim to have the best analysis here. . .i can only offer what i see on the page. .and beyond.

these three pieces come under the title of `graffiti christ`. if we look at that, and are familiar with certain aspects about christ and his teachings. . .there are the parables he recounted which defied meaning to his followers. i am not equating nfp with christ (do i hear a `damn!` being exhaled saat samundar paar), but saying that he appears to employ a similar way to recounting the above.

these pieces are like graffiti splattered on the screen for us to read, urban parables if you will. graffiti is often seen as being meaningless. parables are not. put the two together and you`ve got this.

khair, other than the obvious reference to cannabis, which sets us up for the deja-vu and the images created, i think the focus here is more on the `material things` in the first part. cigarette brand names like gold leaf, marlboro, dunhill, things that we consume in spite of the dangers to our health, or the health of others. . .we are if you will pawns in the hands of profiteering capitalist cigarette manufacturers. (is that what i was before i quit myself?!)

when one of the characters spits out whatever he was drinking and said that it tastes like oil, i couldn`t help but think of the recent oil spill in the arabian sea, and how that spill is bound to have some pollutive poisonous effects.

the reference to farhat hashmi is of course, unavoidable for nfp in his critique of religion as it is in pakistan. . .that and his version of a mullah who slaps suraiya for not wearing a hijab.
most of you were either not born or not old enough to remember an incident that took place in one of the urban centres of lahore in the seventies. in the beginning of the good old zia days, a woman was slapped by a stranger in a bakery for being out with a man. the man happened to be her father. fast forward to 2004 and women undoubtedly are still being slapped for not wearing the hijab or whatever reason.

no one has really commented on the end of this piece. . .but it refers to the monsters in our heads. there may have been cannabis-induced monsters in this piece, but these monsters exist in all of us. . .demons we have to battle on a daily basis. and these demons include those who as riffat says deem idealism, emotional or otherwise as mad.

and now i feel like i`m going mad. . .time to go chase my demons. and once again this analysis is solely that of the one on the couch, and doesn`t represent the opinions, or truth of anyone else. : )

regards,
n~

Stop sounding so morbid, trashman.

Just realized how these three stories sound so much like those weird, absured David Lynch movies. Only weirder stull.

Nooralian, agree with most people here that youre`s have been the best analysis on these. Now that Ras has mentioned Cannabis Cinema, what do you think it`s suggesting? The first two I got, but the third one ....

nooralain, might be another, more frightening end: Hate to speculate this, Paracha, but sometimes your oneliners actually may be about you playing out the role of those haunted, hilarious, manic charchters that you create in your writings. I hope you are not talking about the sort of end which drowned that guy from Valves?
