As an aside,The Feynman lectures series are a great way to begin to fall in love with Physics.
He played a somewhat similiar part in talking physics to the layman as Bertrand Russell did with pure mathematics.

The skeptics however were swept away by the tidal wave of the developments in nanotechnology; they couldn’t hold their ground.

How so? Just like low Tc superconductors, nanotech is gripped by a lot of hype. There are genuine breakthroughs, but these are still few and far between and confined to research laboratories. It would be some time before some of these find their way to useful things outside controlled environments. There is no tidal wave to report...
