Hey all,

I found a couple of hidden gems in the story :-)

1) It promotes national integration, hardcore Southies like Nikki and Die-hard Punjus like Kaurasach joined hands in giving me a dressing down for this piece.
2) It brings to the fore the gender bias in our sub-conscious as reflected by the fact that ghost is a bride and not a bride-groom. Thanks Zahraj for pointing that!!

On a serious note, I know this one was not upto mark, I`ll try to do better in future and be less cavalier while submitting things on Chowk.

Mrinal, let go this one, surely a better one next time.

Cheers,
Rahul

I am not sure why people run into ghost-brides. What about ghost-bridegrooms? Is this something cultural to run into ghost-brides? This is very weird.

tintingem,

Thanx for playing ball!!

Last month our gang was discussing para-normal experiences. I decided to write a short-story on one of the incidents. I started and somewhere in the middle ran out of fizz, it just didn`t get spooky. I even tried to mumble Ruskin Bond in utter seriousness and religiosity. Alas!!

Exasperated, I gave up and submitted it on Chowk before deleting from my PC. Trust me; I`m also surprised that it has made it here. I suspect there is a literary gem hidden somewhere in this piece, just that lesser souls like us can`t understand what it is :-)

So, lick your wounds and submit your short stories, poems, political articles and what not. Who knows you may be lucky next time.

Try this poem from diwaan-e-Rahul to dull your pains

I try to fill,
the empty space inside,
by running with the winds,
by sailing with the waves,
by digging earth,
and splitting hair.

But the void remains,
and the search continues,

Will I someday,
discover my true self?

-N`joy

``This is a great story and it has a MESSAGE. What`s more... it touches upon the important problems of alcoholism and moral degradation creeping into our society. It also talks about the beer guzzling Engineers, problem of brain-drain, lack of infra-structure in the Indian society, and the question of para-normal experiences. How many of us have come across ghosts?``

Geezus dont ya techies think of anything else? Why the phukk does a story need to be as miserable as your existence?

Waste of bhiluddy 10 minutes!

Rahul!
You have talent dude!!!
The poetry was great...really ;)
And now that you`ve mentioned it, I have realized that this story was not just your average ghost story, it carried a message (that I have not been able to decipher yet, but I will hopefully)....and you`re right. how many us have come across ghosts and have lived to tell the tale!?
And yea, thanx for all that love!

i am not saying anything about this story, it does serve its purpose, which means it is scary, what i really want to say is, that i agree with cipram as there are 3 to 5 poems that i sent to chowkwalas long time back, but still they haven`t gotten published...and to add more spice to my anger, is the fact, that i didn`t even recieve anything to know whether the poems were good, bad or not upto chowk`s standard...i am still hoping someday i will see them on this site

tintingem,

Thanks for that!! I love you :-)

I disagree with you. This is a great story and it has a MESSAGE. What`s more... it touches upon the important problems of alcoholism and moral degradation creeping into our society. It also talks about the beer guzzling Engineers, problem of brain-drain, lack of infra-structure in the Indian society, and the question of para-normal experiences. How many of us have come across ghosts?

Further, this is inline with the prolific intellectual tradition of Chowk where domestic spats are linked to clash of civilizations, rampage by goons used as evidence of depravity in a religion, terrorists are passed off as fruits of civilization, and no-good word mangling is paraded as the second coming of Wordsworth.

BTW,

I`m moving from short stories (hold your Thank God) to poetry....a few samples

I talk,
and recant the words

I walk,
and erase the footprints.

I eat,
and spit the morsels

I command,
and beat a retreat

I write,
and erase the poems

..*sigh*...
And chowk rejects my submissions!
Is this a story where the interactors get to write what happens next?!!...ooohh...
And what is this ghoul nonsense. The name of the lady is Phichaal payri.
Atleast, that`s the story I heard from the old chowkidar at the guesthouse in Murree..
