i just cannot forsee a hindu-sikh riot. the closest one i was was during a baisakhi event on the east cost where a bunch of dunk non-turbaned guys took panga with equally drunk turbaned ones over choice of songs the DJ played. there was some blood-shed (nose-bleed mostly) and alas, baisakhi event was cancelled for the next year.

i am sure some other chowkies witnessed this one.

Manish # 63,

Thanks for your response.

I don`t believe that any opposition to any government based on an ideology can be discounted so easily. Just that the opponenets usually get discounted themselves by the methods they choose. Like the saying `` You are what u eat``, so it would be apt to say ``your ideology is what you practice`` ( sorry for the bad analogy... but you get the import).

If you look at Kondapalli Sitaramiya`s writings, you`ll note his extensive analysis of the scoial fabric on the one hand and extreme emotional attachment which led him to found People`s War Group (PWG). Within a few years of PWG taking shape, he was sidelined by the organization into a nothing. Later he resented having been the ideologue of such an outfit whose only philosophy was terrorising by indiscriminate murder of innocents.
One has to agree though that social disparity between rich and poor has not reduced due to the tactics used by PWG.

In a similar fashion what would you think of Prabhakaran, the LTTE supremo. Do you think life of Tamilians in Sri Lanka is any better because of him? Do you see any signs of LTTE problem being resolved amicably in sri lanka?

I don`t doubt that people in india are suffering on a daily basis on many counts. Religion, region or language are the last worries of a poor man something which no terroristic outfit is even capable of thinking of a solution. They want to become the messiahs themselves, but land up becoming a bigger distraction to the problem.

Adios

Full BLOWN Hindu? (translation: Hindu that gets blown by Sikh boys)

Who would have thought? You sure come across as the stereotypical dunce Sikh of the Sikh jokes.

Here is a real life Sikh joke for you. In my undergrad days there was a Mr. Harpreet Singh Chaddha (or Harpreet in short) that was the butt of every other joke made in the entire college. And for good reason.

One fine day, Harpreet wanted to copy a C program from one computer to another. So he opens the file on one comp, selects the entire program using the mouse, removes the mouse and hooks it up to the other computer that he wanted to copy the program to. He then tries to paste the program on the second comp using the mouse that was originally attached to the first comp. He doesn`t give up until one of our other friends realizes what he is doing and convinces him after half an hour of arguments.

Now you sure remind me of Harpreet!

Don`t have much time, but wanted to chip in nevertheless and say that in my opinion, Daljit Singh makes some very valid points. An EU-like economic region would be most beneficial to all of south asia and the world. In some ways though it can probably be argued that this is rather idealistic given the present circumstances.
However, being an idealist myself, I feel that a world without borders is a very beautiful concept. A south asia without boundaries would be a step in the right direction.

I Have a question for Manish Bhatia. The (sub) title ``Surprisingly thoughful views of a jailed militant``, is somewhat misleading. Why cannot a militant be thoughtful?

Nikki7777, why do you ALWAYS have to be so outrightly obnoxious? Oh, but I forgot that there`s a dearth of intelligence in this world.

Kaurasach and stuka, since I`m new to chowk, I was surprised about the insight you have on the Punjab problem. Why then, do you seem to take up arms when I criticize Indian democracy as it exists right now? Why do you seem to think that I dislike India when I do so?

Bruce Lee,

Don`t know if you are confusing me with Satyamvada.

If you are not, you are just showing your intolerance of criticism. Seems like you and some other Sikhs only like interactors that agree with you and bend over backwards to appease you. Sorry, I am not one of them..

//...shows how civilized and non-interfering pakistanis are..;) ...//

I don`t know about civilized, but pakis have certainly become non-interfering. You can call it the ``daisy-cutter`` effect. The american daisy-cutters on talban ``fighters`` in afganistan and some ``stray`` bombs inside paki territory has taught pakis some much-needed valuable lessons.

And it`s not over yet - Pakis are still paying for 20 years of intereference in afganistan( in name of ``strategic depth`` )

A very good read...it makes you think should all politicians be thrown in jail..so they can start using their brain and feel and understand the problems which there janta faces..
Great effort to put this together..most appreciated man.
