according to the bbc report, rabbani is the recognized prez and he leads northern alliance. you are free to draw your own conclusions of `how the two are equated` and whether `they have a chance`.
i was simply addressing urstruly`s insinuations.

[...And this as a person who has travelled to China and knows the friendly response of ordinary Chinese on learning I was from Pakistan...]
actually, ever since kargil, i have been curious about what ordinary chinese think of pakistan or pakistanis. there doesn`t seem to be any cultural/social/ethnic/linguistic/religious link between the two. is there? what would an ordinary chinese and a pakistani talk about in terms of their respective countries? as far as politics is concerned, the chinese people, living in the usa, appear to have very little knowledge of their country`s foreign policies. i would imagine the ones living in china to be even less knowledgable. is it possible that the people who you met in china would have been equally charming to any tourist irrespective of his/her nationality?
a chinese friend of mine, who is generally very well read, claimed that she never knew china had some sort of special relationship with pakistan or if the general chinese public considered pakistani people to be somewhat special.

Afghanistan`s Taliban militia received help in preparing their defences ahead of US air strikes from a group of renegade Pakistani military intelligence officers, a report claimed on Wednesday. The group, including a brigadier and a colonel, entered Afghanistan at the end of September with several truckloads of ammunition, the `Far Eastern Economic Review` said, citing retired senior army officials.
It said as many as five officers from the powerful Inter-services Intelligence (ISI) agency were involved in the operation which was undertaken without the permission of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
A World Upside Down
While Gen Musharraf said Pakistan stood for dialogue with India, Mr Vajpayee said India too had always been for it but it could not be meaningful if Pakistan remained unifocal on Kashmir. Mr Vajpayee told Gen Musharraf that the perpetrators of violence in Jammu and Kashmir had their bases in Pakistan and that Islamabad had done nothing to capture them. The Pakistani President said, ``We are looking into it.``
Meanwhile, India rejected Gen Musharraf`s description of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir as ``freedom struggle`` saying all forms and manifestations of terrorism have to be addressed by the global action against the menace.
``I entirely disagree with President Musharraf`s statement and there can be no compromise with terrorism in any form. Terrorism in terrorism, whatever form it takes. There is nothing as acceptable or unacceptable terrorism,`` External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh told reporters after an unscheduled meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security presided by Prime Minister Vajpayee.

...Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf tonight spoke to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and said the two countries should not do anything to heighten tension in the region but the Indian leader bluntly told him that Islamabad had done nothing to capture perpetators of violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
