A Kiss on the Cheek
Posted by asif2000 Mar 22, 2001 04:23 am
I know exactly what you went thru, family pressure and guilt trips ... right? Well thats exactly what I thought.

I was in that daze too, feeling distant and depressed. When I was reading the article I hoped that there was a happy ending, hoped you managed to get out of the dazed state. I wish now I had had the kiss on the cheek ... but by the time I got out of the dazed state she had left ... went back. Now it is too late.

After the ``dazed state`` you realize that there is nothing wrong with an arranged marriage, really. People who love you (family) find the best match, you have a common culture, religion and values, why would it not work??

The Burden of Virginity

what would you do if your blushing bride told you she wasn`t a virgin on your wedding night?

most of guys who have a problem with that themselves are not virgins. so why should it bother them?

PS virgins are not good lovers.

The Imperatives of Power

another missed opportunity for the leaders to sit down and talk. Pakistan and India`s relationship is not going to get any better by itself. Both have a lot to gain. Why is US playing favorites?

India-Pakistan Reconciliation School

It is not like Indians and Pakistani people cannot stand each other at all. In countries like US a lot of Indians and Pakistani students are friends and even roommates. They help eachother out in that foreign land and developed lasting friendships. Thats what you get when you take all the politics and leaders out of the equation. I even know of marriages between them.

Also when I talk to people who have visited eachothers countries they always (almost always) say that ``yeah I was so suprised that the people were so friendly``.

Imagine that, huh?

Where Mountains Move

Very interesting!

Seems to me that PAEC did most of the work not KRL. The main persons behind it all Dr Ishfaq and Dr Samar seem to be real scientists. Now I find it funny that Dr Qadeer is the one who went to the media claiming that he had done it.

To everyone who has written against testing the bomb, I say it had become necessary. It is NOT an islamic thing. It was for Pakistani pride, for survial, peace and equality. If you cannot understand that you have never lived in this part of the world. Equality will lead to peace, which will lead to economic prosperity.

And please do not insult us (Pakistani people) by comparing us to Talibans, we are nothing like those people.

Indians and Pakistanis Must Start Anew

Reunified? Never.

Peaceful and friendly neighbours? Yes, definately a must do.

And the very first step towards peace and properity is to accept and respect the existance of Pakistan.

Bullock Cart to IT Bandwagon: India’s IT experience
Posted by asif2000 Jun 22, 2000 11:39 pm
There is no denying it, we need a lot of catching up in the computer industry in Pakistan. When I was growing up there all the high school students wanted was to either get into medical schools or engineering colleges. But I am sorry to say that I found out first hand that the standard of education in the engineering schools is nothing to be proud of in Pakistan. Also there was no computer science department infact no computer facilities available to the students. And it is also true that Indians somehow had the advantage of having these facilities in India. But its not too late for Pakistan. The first step is not to deny that we are behind and then do something about it. There are new fields opening up and internet is changing the world, we cannot afford to lag behind.

The government should invest in Pakistan`s future, in education. Yes we are a poor country but so is India, infact there are a lot more poverty stricken people in India, people who have no education. But judging from the number of Indians in the software indusry in US and also the number of International companies who have opened thier offices in India, at least some percentage of Indians were able to benefit from the good engineering schools in India.
