The Laying to Waste of the World: a Memory of I.H Burney
``As for the Afghanis singing ``death to Pakistan,`` I`m sure they are a minority. Pakistan has done more than it`s share of charity work for the thousands of Afghani refugees pouring into the countries. ``
Madam, take of your Rose colored glasses and read some objective accounts of how time after time Pakistan undermined the formation of a stable goverment in Afghanistan and maybe then you`ll realize the extent of their hatered of Pakistani`s.

Ahmed saheb why shouldnt we rejoice? If these guys dont die in Afganistan they`ll be crawling under the barbed wires to get into Kasmir tomorrow.

``What is the point of a Hitchens Chomsky debate? They are both liberals``
Boss, there is nothing two lefties enjoy more than a rollicking debate (I guess once you exclude the communist regimes :-))
You are due for a visit to the college street branch of the ``India Coffee House`` in Calcutta (or to the JNU campus if understandably you do not want to visit that benighted city :-)) to observe a good ``adda``/debate in progress.

``Chomsky is a self-hating jew to the zionists``
I had no idea Chomsky was Jewish!! The Hitchens-Chomsky debate is well covered on the nation website www.thenation.com. My argument is with Chomskys radicalism and his penchant for hyperbole much like our own Ms Roy. He destroys his own credibility (in my eyes atleast) by his hyperbole. For instance his claim that some XX million Somali`s died bue to bombing of the Al-Shifa plant.

Fellow Chomsky fans,
I have been a great admirer of of Chomsky ever since I read ``Necessary Illusions``. That is perhaps why I am greatly hurt by his attitudes towards Sept 11. I have been following the debate between Hitchens and Chomsky and dammit Hitchens is right!!
Chomsky may have had orginal thoughts in his day which greatly contributed to my understanding of Amrican Foreign Policy and media but today he just reminds me of a Professor who wrote a brilliant PhD thesis as a young man and decades down the road is still trying to milk variations of the same idea.

A Decision to Regret
Sorry I didnt read your response carefully. Yes, that would be the right way to put it.
btw, that reminds me I remember reading a book called ``Zeno`` about Market Gardens (I read it as a kid). It was written by a guy who served with the 1st Independent Parachute Company.

I did mean Arnhem. I thought it was not a counter-attack as it was essentially an Allied initiated battle (as opposed to ``the Bulge``) but Urquart(sp?) was unfortunate to drop on top of 2 SS Panzer divisions. Anyway its a minor point.
(btw I once went to see the Market Garden`s museum in Arnhem at what was the Hartenstein Hotel, it was a bit of a dissapointment :-))
(disclaimer: I have no pretensions to military expertise, my ``research`` comes from Cornelius Ryan, ``Commando`` comics and Hollywood movies :-))

Selective memory? I would tend to think that most people remember insults/invective directed against themselves more than that directed at others. Have you applied the appropriate correction factor? :-)``You will see name calling of pakistan (pukistan from sadna and rsaxena, pakillistan from jay, something else i forget from layman or someone) but i dont recall similar stupid name-calling even once of india``
