The Mahatma’s Progeny

Yaar, why have you given up the righteous fight and the process of Hindu enlightenment on the soc.culture.XXX fora?

We need you back desperately (the Horrible Hindu Hordes are Haranguing us)

Zafar, Harimaou, Sadna, others interested...

You might also want to check out AID (Association for India`s Development). ASHA is also a good organization but being focussed on education may not be doing much for the immidiate relief of victims of violence in Gujarat. btw, all of these organizations are US based.

(an aside...)

About a year ago the VHP was pushing a program to US NRI`s called ``Ekal Vidyalaya`` for the tribal regions of Gujarat. Seeing the mayhem in even rural Gujarat this time around I`m sure there is some linkage. Just a heads up, cause the VHP linkage is very cleaverly hidden in the brochures.

Ref #429

``agree with all that you say...``

So you agree that the article is (QUOTE)``devoid of scholarship and filled with half-truths and falsehood`` :-)

``if farzana is saying something about mr.gandi that’s not correct, by all means refute her``

mr gandi??? -I`ll assume that was a slip of the hand. As I said there is no intellectual content, hence there is nothing to refute.

``let the other air his views and perception of things just as you would without insulting and questioning their identity``

But surely when such malice is expressed one cannot escape speculating about the reason for the malice is. (note: I`m of course not condoning he use of foul language even though Ms Varsheney seems to revel in it).

``i like to think our educated class is more tolerant than the indian classes I see on chowk``

I dont see any need for such ``mine is bigger than yours`` comparisons (no matter which side it come from).

I think you are missing a critical point here, me (and I assume a lot of Indians here) would be more than willing to ddebate the issue of Gandhi`s legacy. The critical point is that such a debate cannnot be based on Farzana`s article as it is devoid of scholarship and filled with half-truths and falsehood (for instance the issue of the letter to his son Harilal). The preconceptions and malice are obvious. She is either not very well informed or is indulging in flame-baiting.

PS Personal threats and abuses to her person are of course to be condemmed. About the article itself, there is little doubt in my mind that its a hatchet job and a very poor one at that.

There is a very interesting series on the Asia times website by a leading Tamil figure. He talks about the history of the Tamil movement. Very detailed and absolutely fascinating :-)

What is your problem with tantralogican`s post Farzana? You obviously revel in posting flame-bait (which this article obviously is), why deny that right to others?

``Christopher Walken has done two off the all-time best cameo roles in Annie Hall and Pulp Fiction``

Which role did he play in Pulp Fiction? I have read the book ``Deerhunter`` havent seen the movie.

btw a slip-up Denise Richards plays the nuclear scientist Christmas Jones in ``World is not enough`` and not in ``Tomorrow never dies``.

``who said Christmas comes only once ;-)``

``Also, anyone checked out Denise Richards ? Her

performance in Wild Things was riveting to say the

least. I hear she plays a bond girl in the next 007

movie.``

She WAS in ``Tomorrow never dies``. Plays a nucler scientist :-)

With your ``principled`` stand on human rights I assume you took the time time to remind the turks of their abominable treatment of Kurds, right?

`` our bigotry comes from our religion and our casteism. in baroda, as in all other gujarat cities, try finding accommodation at private hostels unless you are a patel.``

Brings back bad memories :-( I once tried to live at a Kapol hostel in Bombay. I was made to grovel and beg because I am a Bengali. They were worried that I might ``corrupt`` their ``pure-vegetarian`` residents. Their parochialism and small-mindedness was to be seen to be believed. Bloody b___ds.

This ones going to throw Ali1, Urstruly and gang into a tizzy!!!

Quote:

`` Journalists covering Ayodhya and the officials in charge of the town testify to the fact that the largest number of kar sevaks came from Gujarat, Maharashtra, the western parts of UP. Large contingents also came from the south. In other words, from the Shudra-dominated societies of India. How do we read into this phenomenon and understand the anti-minority violence in Gujarat?``
