Just Another Stupid Love Story
What a wonderful piece! You draw a very sharp picture of what it was like to be a kid! Took me back to my early years as well :). I am sure that there are young kids right now chanting ``Die Ganju die`` as we speak. I was laughing hard at that and the warnings about the Qazi. An original story.

Studebaker; exactly what I feel. It is not a manner of anonymity, rather an expression of other sides that wouldn`t otherwise fit. Hey I just remembered, Stephen King and Richard Bachman, two very different authors; same person. I happen to like both of them, and I think the Novel ``The Dark Half`` (I think that was the title) was about a similar idea; of course being King`s concoction, the other side actually came alive ;)
Asim: Please please, Genius?? Nah, I would be a frikkin fool to accept that. I like to view events from various perspectives and understand what they look like from these views. Nowhere are these differences more apparent than in religon and cultural rituals. Or an example I have quoted before on Chowk: imagine a life and death situation, two soldiers from opposite ends face to face, one shoots the other. The same event viewed from the family of one soldier is Joyous as he came out alive, the same event to the other family is a tragedy. Imagine, same event, completely different perspectives.
Now let me get back to your comment and I paraphrase: ``To be able to view things from opposing points of views and reconcile them, one must be a genius`` (paraphrased). I would like to think it is just being a bit open minded.
Studebaker: Your question to Shirin, beware the answer ;) To paraphrase Pulp Fiction ``If my answers scare you, stop asking me questions``. Quite frankly Shirin has me a bit confused. She posted a very strong reaction and I am still wondering what I did to solicit that. In real life I am actually a very happy person and do not move people to tears ;)

Re: Name. Why close to the original? It is not the name itself I play with here, but the personality as well...try it sometimes, it is an invigorating, frustrating, creative, experience to try seeing things from the eyes of a personality opposite of yours!
Studebaker, thanks for the invite from the land of one of my favorite authors. Mr.King. I would like to extend the same to you if you ever are in Ottawa. Who know there might be a big Chowk convention one of these days when we all get together? Now there`s an idea!
re: Canadians v.s. Americans. Canadians do royally piss off Americans at every interaction. I have seen this time and time again. Now I have a lot of friends in USA and they are all very intelligent well travelled people. Anyhow, I will defend Canada a bit every now and then, but come on! We haven`t decided if we are Capitalists or Socialists, we therefore are bad at both!

Scout,
We *so * do not say aboot or aboat or anything of the sort...I hear this everytime I visit California! Well truth be told, I do slip a few ``eh`s`` into the conversation everyonce in a while, and am eternally confused about what you Americans (I am assuming here) mean by freeway`s parkways, roadways etc...
I am also eternally confused by the fact that you function with a currency that is so boring (mighty yes, but boring): all bills the same size and the same color. What do blind people do?
On the other hand, I always smile at the Canadian Identity. Americans have the ``American Dream``, we have the ``we are not American`s`` ...it is too funny. As if Americans really care about Canada ;)

Thank you for explaining the day to day frustrations of the cold weather so eloquently. However, there are some people that really enjoy the cold, my cousin being one of them. He prefers the cold cold winter of Siberia, and finds the Ottawa winters a bit mild. To each their own I guess.
Regarding anonymity: Suhayl would be better than sohayl ;). I will be writing some articles (one of these days) on my passions as Suhayl...Salsa, Cuba..mmmm....so you will see some more of the other side of me.
Zahra Ji, I am unique I guess with the `y` in Suhayl. Lyahus is pretty outlandish, I like em both! No I am not a Gemini :) Regarding enjoying different weathers ... fall is the best in Gatineau hills...nothing beats em.
The aroma of a good cigar...it lingers, hovers in the cold crispy air...definitely Thah! :)...especially if it is a Cohiba! Double Thah!
Hmmm...It seems that I got my cuisines mixed up in regards to Lahore :)
Your suggestions were welcome in lieu of the donations

Shirin Ji,
Dear Lyahus,
//As far as the ``Red necked species ``goes , we dont have them here in our town [City of Gardens ]!//
Well you guys are lucky then :)
//and of course our good ol native indians are in abundance ! the real endangered species !//
This reminds me of a Chris Rock piece on Racism etc in his HBO standup ``Bigger and Blacker``. Mainly addressing black folks he goes ``The indians have it worst. When was the last time you saw two indians together? I have seen a polar bear ride a tiny bicycle but I haven`t seen a native american family enjoying a nice dinner at Red Lobster!``
//ya sohayl chal sakta hai ? //

Shirin,
Thanks for your feedback on the poem.
And shame on you for rubbing ``Beautiful British Columbia`` in my face ;). No matter, I am taking off for Southern California next week, when I get back to Ottawa, it will be sunny! Ottawa is extremely beautiful in the summer.
I am sure us Ottawa`ns wouldn`t mind sending you some of the snow. But I hear BC has a pretty severe case of rednecks! You can continue to hold on to those fine specimens of humanity ;)
Alright, here is a call to all Canadian Pakistani`s on Chowk, please stand up!

Dost Mittar; This poem was submitted last spring :)
Zahra bi bi, What a small world, you talk of dissapointing city called Ottawa, Dost-Mittar lives in Ottawa, and so do I (for half of the year). I used to *love * the winter. I did crazy things like pack a backpack with two thermos of coffee and go walking in.... -50 (yup we had that one year :). But since then I realized the cold weather makes for cold impersonal people...or people too worried about not slipping on the ice and desperate to get into a heated place. It is good to visit but not to spend 10 years of your life in:)
Dost-Mittar, it was still lightly snowing today, but you know Ottawa, we will get a freak snow storm at the end of april just to piss everyone off!
Zahra Ji, I believe I answered yet another question of yours!!

Yes I am Pakistani.
To Zahra`s worry about a virus, you caught me :), I was being evasive.
Okay so Who is Lyahus, or what is Lyahus? I wrote a poem earlier that explained a bit about who Lyahus is. In the simplest sense, Lyahus is an alter ego. Lyahus is the opposite of who I am. Lyahus backwards = Suhayl. Temporal guessed that one ages ago (pretty obvious anyway :).
I decided some time back to write as 2 identities, myself and Lyahus. Lyahus got away with some darker stuff, the opposite of what Suhayl felt. But that distinction has now blurred.
I do live in Canada, I used to love the winter, but now I have decided that there is no use torturing the body with this harshness. I have a new love, Cuba the seductress, she beckons...I must heed her call.
Now back to the subject regarding Lahore...I have decided I will visit Lahore, after I go to Cuba of course. I`ll have nihari for breakfast, eat several times a day, visit during basant so I can fly kites, do some ``tarda tardi`` with the beautiful Punjabi girls, etc etc. I have lived abroad too long.
Suggestion and donations welcome ;)

You visit Canada only in the winter time? You sick sick woman! I go to California in the winter (for as long as I can), next stop Cuba.
Okay to clarify the ``Who is Lyahus`` and ``Rainy Day`` stuff. Something is wrong with the Chowk cgi engine. I once published a poem titled ``Who is Lyahus`` on chowk, ages ago. Now this ``Rainy Day`` got published. For some reason when I click on Rainy Day, it puts the title from ``Who is Lyahus`` and the poem from ``Rainy Day``. It is wierd, but I guess it works for me!
Now about Lyahus...hmmm...Who is Lyahus? Well the poem with the title ``Who is Lyahus`` explains that one. I wonder if it is still accessible on chowk.
Scout, thanks for tasting the poem as sweet ;). My more ...mmm...sweeter poems got immediately rejected on Chowk.

Lahore is a place I`ve been only once (for 5 hours). I am told it is the culinary capital of Pakistan and overall center of livliness. On my last visit to Pakistan, I noticed a great lack of women in Islamabad and Karachi (in the markets etc). I was comforted by a friend who said, don`t worry, go to Lahore. That`s where you find the Pakistani Beauties.
Are these stories about Lahore true, or have I built up Lahore as something it is not? ;)
